Like I said in one of the episode discussion threads, I neither care about Natsuki's happiness nor do I root for him. I only care for the girls in the manga (and Tsuyoshi). In fact, I read the manga because of the four girls. As long as they are happy, I am all good. Which means I only approve of the pairs that the girls want themselves to happen (which makes my heart bleed a bit when I see Nozomi though). Which means:

The above would have reflected more in the poll results if it was conducted a couple of months earlier, but since the poll was conducted most recently, I can see why Natsuki and Anna are there as #1 male and #1 female characters respectively. But still, seeing Natsuki first in the list surprises me because it is conducted on a shoujo magazine. I cannot recall the last time I saw a timid guy ranked first, particularly when the manga boasts the likes of other three male protagonists who usually top any ranking. So, I have to give credit to Mizuno-sensei for making it happen. Manga fans always saw the drastic change coming in Mari because it was largely hinted in the manga. The changes in Tomoya's attitude and approach made me want to pat on his back say "you did great!" but

As for Keiichi and Nozomi, they are the only pair that never clicked for me. I found their relationship too distorted for my personal taste (take no offense). I didn't enjoy Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji and KeiZomi's relationship greatly resembles it. But there are a lot of female fans who like S characters so I can see why Keiichi got more votes than Tsuyoshi.

If the poll was conducted amongst male fans only I think Tsuyoshi would have come first, Matsunaga would have come second with Keiichi being the last.

From a similar perspective however, it's not as straightforward for the female characters I guess. Male fans in general like tsundere characters. So when someone is Tsuntsun, they go head over heels when the character finally shows her dere side. They also like inexpressive characters (like Anna) more than energetic characters (like Yukiko) in stark contrast to RL, lol. I think I will lose counting on how many times I have seen this happen in stories where the inexpressive girl triumphs over the energetic girl. The best thing about this manga is that you don't have to pick Anna over Tsukiko or vice versa because they both have different love interests. Nozomi probably would never beat the three girls despite she is probably the sweetest. But seeing Natsuki on top of the list, I cannot say it will be impossible for her if the author wants it to happen.

He seems to be working hard despite being shy and all, so ye that's good. But male characters being on top makes sense considering it's audience. Still would be happier to see Kei lower, but ye there are many masochists in Japan I guess (if not, Diabolik Lovers would not exist lol)

I'm really looking forward to more expressive Anna, I really like when she shows expressions. Maybe I should read the manga once the anime ends.

And I really, really agree with your explanation of "reaction on tsundere characters" Sometimes, I find that kinda... unfair (like in Shokugeki or Nisekoi) but not here, because I'm biased when it comes to Mari, haha. Energetic girls need more love, too. Also "normal" girls.
I'm glad there are 4 couples, so no conflicts and shipping wars. This series is truly relaxing when you see it from that pov (coz shipping wars can get rlly gross lol)
Ye, anything can happen if Natsu can be the 'king' (pun on Yukiko's nickname of him) I'm rooting for the girls!

It's not like I don't like Chitoge or Erina, they have their own charms and are actually lovable too but Kosaki and Megumi are totally my type. But yeah, Mari became my favourite over time as I read the manga. I used to dislike her so much in the beginning of the story when I first read the manga (and I disliked Mattun even more) so I am surprised myself how my opinion about her and her lover took a complete u-turn. But the newer chapters make me wanna hug Anna every time she is around Natsuki. Well, things are bound to change so watch her closely! :)
