Do you think you will experience the final frontier?

The final frontier of humanity, always an exciting thought. With rapid advance in technology we might be able to colonize a planet here and a planet there. With the recent testing of the EM drive (will provide links) space travel is becoming an increasingly interesting thought.

If we were to launch an all out exploration mission with galaxy jumping spaceships, there would be nothing that could stop us which might be a scary thought for some and with due reason.

So denizens of MAL will you be among the first colonists of Mars or Venus?

It should be noted that I only understand about 30% of the things they are discussing in the forums.

I'll probably stay on earth given the opportunity. While space would be cool and all I think it wouldn't be nearly as cool until a few generations after we start. It'd probably be a lot more relaxing to just stay on Earth.

The idea was more like humanity as a whole going through a stage of space travel. Do you think you might see this happen within your lifetime?

unlikely but perhaps. assuming the medical system vastly improves and length of lifespan increases artificially via technology

Despite the ever-increasing technology, I don't believe my lifespan will reach the time when it will be accessible. And I don't except I'll live for more than 60 even...

No.
Too many resources needed to accomplish such a thing is being used on shit like smartphones, and advancements in technology aren't going as fast as one would hope.
I will likely die in like 2040-2050, just before the breaking point of another world war.

If technological singularity and transhumanism is ever achieved, I probably won't be alive to see it or reap the benefits of it.

The 'Final Frontier" for me is that mirror hanging from a wall, you walk through into another planet.
Space Travel? So wasteful in time and energy.

Space Travel is coming, but but it will be limited for a long time. We would't want anybody to do so to the extent that they escape local political scrutiny, right? Politicians hate that problem. The kings hated the notion of mass exodus from Europe. "Who will we rule, if they all leave?"

If we can warp space to teleport thousands of lightyears instantly we might. But have you ever thought that the reason the fermi paradox exists is because every other alien race realized that light speed is the fastest we can go? At that point we have no choice but to give up, make a dyson sphere, and live the rest of our lives for billions of years in a virtual reality utopia before our star dies.

No I don't think we will witness anything beyond colonization of mars in our lives. Even then it would be a really bad place to live. Honestly this entire thing depends on how quickly and efficiently we discover how to harness anti matter.

I don't really think this will happen anytime during my lifetime, but maybe sometime in a couple thousand years in the future?
I mean, we haven't even really found life forms outside of Earth at this time...

Technological advancement is actually advancing faster than the predicted exponential slope.
