| I am considering to drop this show but I want to know if it is somehow important for the main plot of Haruhi's franchise and also possible future projects or it is just a spin-off of the series? |

| It's just a spin off of the main series; the novels act of their own accord. So no, you don't have to watch it if you're only interested in the main series. |
