| There's a lot more fanservice in this show than I expected from such a critically acclaimed show. There's a lot of religious symbolism going on here. I wonder if this show's apocalyptic premised in centered on the bible. Well paced episode but I wish the animation was better. |

| Misato is creepy, though there's also something to say about the loneliness of adulthood. The flashback made my head hurt. I was also in a bad mood when watching these first episode though. I felt like Shinji myself, so it was not ideal. |

| I really like the jump cut from Shinji seemingly losing the fight to waking up in the hospital. It puts us in the same POV as him showing the gap in his memory and adds more tension to the episode than just showing everything in chronological order. |
