Top Ten One Piece AMVs
One Piece has been entertaining fans now since 1999 and along those years it's gained a monumental fan following. Fans have shown their love of the series in various ways with fan fiction, artistic renderings, cosplay, and garage kits. One way that fans have shown their love of the Straw Hat pirates is through anime music videos or AMVs. Showcasing the best of the best, here are the top ten One Piece anime music videos.
One Piece AMVs - Get ready for the feels
10. Warrior
Song: Warrior Inside / Leader | Maker: Mugetsu AMV | Awards: None
The title of this video/song title gives you a pretty clear idea of what the AMV will be about. This is a video that shows Luffy's fighting spirit. His willingness to keep fighting no matter what to save or help his friends. Even if the odds are against him, Luffy is able to gather the strength to win any fight. The glare on Luffy's face at the beginning of this video is a great image to drive in the theme of this video.
9. This is One Piece
Song: Prayer of the Refugee / Rise Against | Maker: Mauo23 | Awards: none
A video with a lot of creative editing. Through the song and imagery, it tells the story of the hardships each of the Straw Hats have faced since they were children. The songs changes in rhythm work well to serve as a metaphor for overcoming the pain these characters went through and not letting others walk over them. The overexposed colors, whether intentional or not, add to the feel of the video that what has happened, or will happen, is not nice and tidy, but chaotic and beyond control.
8. Let It Chopper!
Song: Let It Go / Idina Menzel | Maker: believeititstaken | Awards: Otakon 2015 Critics Choice
A little video dedicated to the reindeer medic Chopper. Although it's a cheeky little AMV, matching One Piece's cutest character with 2015's most overplayed song, it still actually works well as a combo. Sure, the idea of having Chopper refer to himself as a "good girl" gets a bit of a chuckle, but the message of the song does match up with Chopper as he does have a lot of fear and self-doubt about himself in the series. Even though this video was done with a smirk, it shows a lot of good editing and actually tells a good story about the emotions of the little guy.
7. This is War - Marineford
Song: This is War / 30 Seconds to Mars | Maker: Sergio Reyes | Awards: None
War is the theme here as this video shows the immense battle between the Marines and the Whitebeard pirates. This battle is a major part of the series and this song matches it perfectly. This video holds nothing back to show just how brutal of a battle it was and doesn't sugarcoat the bloodshed either, set to music that exemplifies just how much the battle meant to both sides. It also features wonderful editing that expertly matches up with the high points of the song. Makes you want to go watch the Marineford Arc again, that's for sure.
6. War of Change
Song: War of Change / Thousand Foot Krutch | Maker: xDresultsAMV | Awards: None
A very intense video with a lot of quick cuts that covers the Battle of Marineford from various perspectives. This covers Ace remembering his past as he is set to be executed, Luffy as he fights for his brother, and Luffy's marine friend, Coby, as the battle gets more intense and how it affects each character. This video is very much in the drama category and more intense than many others with its graphic depiction of the battle and its fast jump cut editing.
5. For the Win
Song: For the Win / Two Steps from Hell | Maker: iCrptyx HD | Awards: none
Set to an instrumental song, so it doesn't tell so much of a story, but I'll be damned if it doesn't make for a hell of a preview of the show. If you met someone who had never seen or heard of One Piece, show them this video and they will be sold. Featuring masterful editing showcasing a lot of characters and a whole lot of action. While it may not give you the strongest emotional response, it will still get your attention and get you fired up on the series!
4. Blood Brothers
Song: Veigar / Revelations | Maker: Liv3rify | Awards: None
An instrumental that shows the relationship between a young Luffy, Ace, and Sabo. The strong drum beat of the song gives a strong emotional resonance to the feeling of how much these three boys went through together. Starting from the very beginning, the feeling of these three coming together and becoming family really shines through, not only in the music, but the editing as well. This video takes us on the long journey and brings us right up to the bitter end of the story.
3. Sabo - On my Own
Song: On My Own / Ashes Remain | Maker: Malek Al-Tamimi | Awards: None
An emotional video going over the childhood of Ace and Luffy's sworn brother Sabo. The video uses a great song to tell of the separation of Sabo from his brothers and the visuals also bring the point home when Luffy reunites with the brother he thought of as dead. "I was never meant to fight alone" is probably the most poignant lyric of this song. You get a look at not only the history but what Sabo had to do to make himself stronger and make him what he has now become. A very good representation of the character and all he has been through in less than 3 minutes.
2. The Optimists
Song: Pompeii / Bastille | Maker: Otaku Lounge Productions | Awards: Anime Boston 2014 - Finalist / Kawaii Kon 2014 - Assistant Director's Award or "Pirate" arrrrrward / Otafest 2014 - 3rd Place Audience Favorite / Anime North - Finalist / AnimeNEXT 2014 - Best Drama / Fanime 2014 Judges 2nd Place Drama / Anime Central 2014 Finalist - Drama / Anime Expo 2014 Finalist - Fun / Anime Evolution 2014 2nd Place Judges / Anime California 2014 Finalist - Drama / AWA 2014 Expo - Best Upbeat
As you can see, this one made its rounds on the convention circuit and cleaned up. This is a very positive video that tells the story that even after the time skip, the Straw Hats are going to face adversity the same way they always do; with positivity and optimism. "If you close your eyes, does it feel like almost nothing's changed at all." And in this case, that is a good thing. This is a very uplifting and wonderful video that puts a smile on your face and makes you feel good. Deserves every accolade it got.
1. Save Me
Song: Drown/ Bring Me The Horizon | Maker: animefreak00007 | Awards: Anime Blues Con 6 Drama finalist
A strong video showing Robin's struggles when the crew went to Water 7. The lyrics match incredibly well with the storyline, especially the line "Save me from myself. Don't let me drown." If that doesn't explain Robin's predicament during that whole ordeal, I don't know what else would. The editing is very well done putting together scenes of robin being captured, Luffy and the others trying to save her, and the flashbacks of what she experienced as a child seeing her home destroyed and everyone around her die. This is a perfect example of a storytelling AMV that matches a great song to a very emotional storyline in the series.
