CnC did it first... And any way to access that account was lost with the MALPocalypse.

lordzeru | Aug 18, 2021 10:47 AM
It was supposed to be a collective group project but we abandoned it pretty quickly and nobody remembers the password. I'm pretty sure the person who made it also forgot the password for the email account they attached it to so it's all lost.

Ezekiel_01 | Aug 18, 2021 7:42 AM
Make sense. I thought it was collective group access thing since it did bear the group name and logo. It also has a link the brings me exactly here.

lordzeru | Aug 18, 2021 2:16 AM
We don't have the login to that account any longer, either. It was with someone who is very inactive.

Don't know why it took me 6 years to finish Haruka Machi E but thankfully I finish it this year and It's a very good read overall. Then I discover our club used to have a reviewer account. Obviously, it's now dead.

>Man, Deafheaven is so fucking good. That last single was rad.

I know the release is already controversial in the purist community due to the stylistic change but I'm eating it up. Yesterday's single was fantastic, I've spun it probably 10 times already.

@AlabastreAizo
Damn it, I can't hide anymore that I like Sword Art Online. 😢

Deafheaven's Infinite Granite.

New month; new conversation. What media releases are y'all looking forward to in August? It could just be the latest episode/chapter of an ongoing anime/manga, or it could be a new series, a game, a film, an album. Whatever.

>The US comics industry is devoid of ideas.

I feel like that's a disingenuous generalization. I can maybe understand (though not relate) if you're just talking about Marvel and DC, but the US comics industry is huge and full of much more than superhero comics. That's like saying the manga industry is devoid of ideas and only looking at shonen battle manga. But even if you just meant superhero comics, I'd still completely disagree.

At Marvel, we have the Hickman era of X-Men, which has shifted the status quo for mutants drastically and given us teams and series that are totally different from what we've ever had before. Immortal Hulk has been an all-time best run comic going back to Hulk's original roots as a horror comic, and it's just fantastically drawn, colored, and written; Al Ewing is a star. There are great runs going for so many of the characters right now, and new runs for Kang and Defenders start in August.

At DC, Tynion is doing one of the best Batman runs in years full of new characters and stories with an all-star art team. We have the Milestone universe finally coming back. We have completely different status quos for Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Swamp Thing (Ram V rocks), Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, Superman and the Authority (Morrison returned for a DC book!), Robin, and an over-arching DC story with Infinite Frontier. Books like The Other History of the DC Universe are completely different and shift the perspective on the medium's past completely. DC even has a whole horror comic imprint, and they started publishing non-cape books under Black Label with comics like The Nice House On The Lake.

Just going by cape books, damn it's a great time to be an American comic fan, and tons of unique stories have been told with characters old in new in just the last year.

And then we throw the whole indie market in, and I have truly no clue what you mean. Boom has better stuff than ever with comics like The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, Seven Secrets, Something is Killing the Children... I mean I could do this for every publisher. We have new zines like the horror anthology book Razorblades put together by James Tynion IV, Ex.Mag had an award-winning run, TKO is a newer publisher bringing top-tier talent for original books, Fantagraphics and Drawn & Quarterly continue to put out lovely stuff annually... I gotta question when people say Western comics are in a creative slump or whatever, because there are always more great comics than I ever even have time to read. What are you reading if you're so unhappy with them? I'd recommend trying to branch out a bit and stop worrying about diversity or whatever.

> This is Marvel's big push to produce content for the current generation

This is the kind of narrative that comicsgate people push. You're cherry-picking some shitty comic that people across the board were making fun of and saying it got a big push. That comic was stealth-canceled during covid delays and never got re-solicited. It absolutely wasn't getting a big push; that just never happened.

I think I saw some disney related series in 2D a afew years ago? Maybe they still have a few teams for that. It looked rathe flash like animation tho.

I don't think I haven't seen any new disney movies since they switched to 3D, I0m not the target anymore and I don't have too much interest in 3D really. The live action remakes idea are even more bizarre.let them milk star wars more or something /s

I'm actually interested on the Japanese creators shorts those might be worth a watch. They might become a bit too different from canon but they will probably at least pretty to watch.

>Remember when Disney was about children's cartoons not freaking everything?

I sort of miss the time I only know Disney for their 2D animated works. Well, I won't expect they will make another major 2D animation film since they had shifted to the 3D CGI style and if I remember it well the staff for the 2D animation Dept is already been scrapped. They only function now the Disney Amusement Parks from what I heard.

Any opinion about the New Cruella Movie? I'm kinda confused about what the movie is aiming for. Definitely not a Maleficient type of live-action.

The Dalmatians Kill Her Mom, But when she got the chance to Kill the Dalmatians that kill her mom, to make them as coats, she didn't kill them. Then at the end of the movie she gives away dalmatian Puppies.

I would like to pretend that Cruella is independent of the original movie but just thinking that it's the prequel from the 101 dalmatian movies kinda makes it disturbing since in the 101 dalmatian movies she wants to kill the puppies to mass-produce a coat.

hahaha I forgot gits movie was a thing, bad mango indeed. I was silly to think the Holywood machine would be stopped by a manga about torturing children. Those new marvel heroes make me feel kinda old. Remember when Disney was about children cartoons not freaking everything?

dietmango | Jul 21, 2021 12:41 PM
I come back to MAL just to be blamed for something I didn't do. All these lies about me. What did I do to deserve this ;___;

LayedBack | Jul 21, 2021 7:11 AM
Yes, this Mango is clearly becoming a problem. I vote we juice him immediately. (sorry couldn't help making a stupid joke)

As for Western media, its no surprise that things are rapidly devolving considering the chokehold that Disney and the like have on these industries, and more problematic still is the general takeover of just about everything by polarizing politics completely dominated by only one side of the spectrum that most fans don't want any part of. Not that people would be happy to see right wing politics in their art media either. These things are best left for the political philosophy section, not worming their way into people's beloved forms of escapism. Whatever one might believe in these times of decline, I think I can speak for the vast majority of fans in that most of us just want to enjoy good art and stories, perhaps even more so because escapism is nice to have in times such as these. However things are getting so ridiculous that a lot of us are just straight up checking out and only consuming older forms of art or foreign. I know that I for one have no trust whatsoever in Hollywood or corporations like Disney and the like anymore. Even if they do manage to sneak something brilliant in I'll likely miss it because I'm just done and fed up with their catering to the twitter mob trying to burn the witch and the wishes of globalist oligarchs trying to create some sort of identity-less submissive consumerist new man.

Barely meeting the production and marketing cost and not really turning a profit doesn't make it a box office success. Alita doesn't have the longevity or milking potential that something like Black Widow does. Marvel will be profiting off of Black Widow for years to come from toy sales, digital sales and not to mention still selling it on Disney+ while Disney as a whole won't see a cent more for acquiring the rights to Alita. Aside from that I don't really know what your overall objective is with these posts. Are you upset that Alita was a box office failure or happy that an MCU movie didn't do too well?
