3-gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
2nd season bounces around stories centering around the various characters (both major and minor), including the continuation of Rei's journey through young adolescence, a dark turn in Hinata's life due to bullying by a group of girls at her middle school, and other stories around how shogi is such a central part of the lives of other professional players across the age spectrum.
Don't think the flow of this season was quite as good as Season 1; stories at time seemed too piecemeal. But that's a relatively minor criticism considering how well done each of the stories were. |

Ajin
Reminds me a little bit of X-Men, particularly the whole "Professor X vs. Magneto" relationship/dynamic.
Story takes place in a modern-day world in which humans have discovered the existence of mysterious immortal humans known as "Ajin." Whenever Ajin are found, government agencies try to take them into custody for various inhumane tests. The main character is Kei Nagai, a high school boy who's really book-smart, but is not quite right emotionally. One day, Kei, manages to survive what should have been a fatal accident. Soon thereafter, Kei, along with the public, becomes aware that he is an Ajin, leaving him on the run in an effort to escape capture by the relevant authorities. While on the run, Kei comes into contact with a mysterious old man with a hat (Satou) who happens to be an Ajin with a grand plan to gather Ajin, fight for Ajin's rights, and bring down Japan. However, Kei just wants to live a normal, peaceful life. Really compelling story. Throughout the show, there was a constant air of mystery surrounding much of the supporting cast. Found Satou, being the eventual primary antagonist, to be the most interesting character. In terms of personality, Satou reminds me of a cross of Magneto and a more level-headed Joker. |

Ajin Part 2
Nagai Kei and Nakano Kou (both ajin) decide to partner with Tosaki's (human) group to take down Satou and his crew. Gripping series with nice action scenes. Always wanted to watch the next episode.
Minor quibbles: Kou's tendency to constantly be angry wore thin with me, and the conclusion was a bit too open-ended for my liking. |

Amaama to Inazuma
Basically Usagi Drop and Barakamon, but with more of a focus on cooking and parenting.
An endearing anime about a single father who wants the best for his kindergarten-aged daughter. He tries to learn how to cook delicious food for her by going to the (what-seems to-always-be-empty) restaurant of a female student (Kotori) at the high school where he teaches. The cooking-related aspects were a bit too general and bland for my taste (so to speak). The parenting-related aspects resulted in one too many "squishy"/"cheesy" moments. Watching this, I also couldn't help but think that this anime was set up to go the student/teacher romance route (maybe in the manga?). |

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2nd Season
Follow-up to Season 1 and conclusion of the series.
During Season 2, we see, among other story-lines: (i) Irina (Bitch-sensei) confront her feelings regarding Karasuma; (ii) each of the Class E kids deciding what they want careers they want to pursue in the future; (iii) the pressure that Nagisa's mom has put on Nagisa to basically live the life that she wanted; (iv) a background/history that explains why the school principal is so adamant about his current teaching policy; (v) a dark (and out-of-nowhere) secret about one of the Class E kids; and (vi) the Class E kids being faced with a decision regarding whether they want try to save or kill Koro-sensei. Didn't like the batshit crazy personality of the "final boss," though that seems to be a common theme in both seasons. Overall, very enjoyable watch. Great humor and drama. |

Arakawa Under the Bridge
Story follows a young well-to-do man (Kou) who has been brought up by his father to never be in someone else's debt. However, one day, he finds himself in a situation where he falls off a bridge and is about to drown, before a stoic homeless blonde woman claiming to be from Venus (Nino) saves him. Kou insists on paying back the debt he now owes Nino, who, in turn, requests that Kou be her lover/boyfriend. Consequently, Kou is compelled to leave his posh home/apt. to live under a bridge with Nino. Kou soon finds out that Nino isn't the only quirky character living under the bridge - rather, there's a whole group of weirdos for Kou to deal with. Hilarity ensues...!
Characters seem really random. Found myself often wondering what the real backstories are in regards to all the other characters living under the bridge; some are disclosed, though the legitimacy of some of those stories is probably debatable. Each episode is broken into about a half dozen sections/mini-episodes, but they're generally tied together. Found myself laughing out loud quite a bit, particularly in the second half of the series. Fun times under a bridge! |

Baby Steps
Follows the story of a nerdy "straight A" boy (Maruo Eiichiro) who initially decides to take up tennis to get exercise. Maruo takes a flier on a tennis club, where he meets a high school classmate (Natsu Takasagi, widely considered the prettiest girl in school) who privately expresses to him her strong desire to become a tennis pro. Inspired by Natsu's conviction (and perhaps her beauty as well), Maruo gradually takes on a greater interest in tennis and works to develop his intellectual/analytical style of play.
Mostly enjoyable watch, especially once the tennis matches get going, but held back by moments of PAINFULLY cheesy dialogue, particularly in early episodes. |

Bakemonogatari
Story follows Koyomi Araragi, a high school boy who consistently runs into girls who have unique, supernatural maladies afflicting them. Araragi. being the excessively helpful guy that he is, always goes out of his way to try to fix the problem and return those girls to normal. He gets help from Oshino, a mysterious 30-yr. old guy who stays in an abandoned school building, knows a lot about the supernatural, and saved Araragi in the past. Araragi also happens to have a small bit of vampire in him, giving him regenerative abilities.
Genres: Mystery, supernatural, romance, comedy Story was broken out into five arcs. On the plus side, each arc generally had a pretty interesting twist. While very heavy on character dialogues, much of the talking was interesting and witty, IMO. On the down side, oftentimes just found myself not being too interested in wanting to watch the next episode. Can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe if I had seen a backstory on Araragi first....??? Also, very empty feeling watching this, as there are no background characters in the settings, making everything feel too hollow much of the time. Flashing text at the beginning of each episode (after opening) had to be slowed down in order to be read, making for a somewhat annoying viewing experience to start. Overall rating: 6.5, rounded up |

Ballroom e Youkoso
Interesting story about a young boy who gets introduced to the world of ballroom dancing and aims to get better at it. Brought ballroom dancing to life, making it far more compelling than I had ever thought. Beautiful imagery.
Some minor quibbles: (i) certain characters looked, acted and/or sounded older than they actually were; and (ii) sometimes felt like there were too many still shots during the dance scenes. |

Boku dake ga Inai Machi
Main character (Satoru) finds himself traveling back in time whenever a tragedy is about to strike. Upon going back in time, Satoru attempts to take actions to save people who would otherwise be hurt/killed in some other incident. One night, his mom is murdered in their apartment by an unknown assailant, and Satoru is wrongfully accused of the murder. Just as he's about to be taken into custody, his time travel ability kicks in, and subsequently, Satoru finds himself back in his elementary school days. Satoru realizes that his mom's murder may be tied to the murder of certain kids (including two classmates) that occurred when he was a kid. The story follows Satoru as he tries to save the future victims and figure out who the true murderer is.
Not bad, but nothing really stood out. Seemed fairly standard to me. |

Story revolves around a cast of unique characters living in the same boarding house, with each character having their own little quirk (one's a hardcore masochist, another is a quiet, socially closed-off bookworm, another is always stalking said bookworm, another is a young woman who has bad luck with guys because she's too "easy", and another comes across as sweet and innocent but is actually somewhat sadistic/has a mean streak.
Kind of awkward following a main character who has "stalker" tendencies, but still an enjoyable and funny watch. Animation was absolutely beautiful. |

Durarara!!
Story revolves around a bunch of characters (mostly high school teenagers and young adults) in the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo, with each of the main characters having some kind of secret about them and/or a hidden past. The district has been beset by a gang war, as well as a series of troubling events that appear to be heavily influenced by the antagonist, Izaya, an information dealer (who reminds me a bit of a young Lex Luthor...!). Story also incorporates supernatural elements, including a female headless rider, a possessed sword, and one or two super-strong humans.
Basically a more fully-fleshed out alternative to Baccano; lots of intertwining stories, mystery, and eccentric characters. Wasn't particularly hooked to the story, but the series was still well done, IMO. Might be worth watching again. |

Slice-of-life about a high school-aged girl (Makoto) who is training to be a professional witch. As part of her training, she is required to travel away from home and live with her distant relatives (cousins' family) who are human.
The show generally has a laid back and relaxed vibe (similar to Non Non Biyori and Barakamon), but with more of a magical/mystical element at times (reminiscent of some Studio Ghibli films or Season 2 of Aria). Main character of this series is like a more mature/confident version of the main character of Tamako Market. Score would probably be higher if the series were longer....! |

Intriguing story in a seedy setting. Scored lower (would probably give it a 6.5) due to poor ending that had no real conclusion. Was left with many unanswered questions.

Golden Time
Comedic elements were reasonably enjoyable. However, the romance/drama aspects were too over the top at times for my tastes. The main male character (Tada Banri) was hard to empathize with. Most of the key characters also had a tendency to make some glaringly questionable actions, but guess that could be explained away by their young age. Ending felt a bit abrupt and too neatly tied together.

Starts out a bit like Gintama, then becomes a bit more like Samurai Champloo, but by the midway point, becomes more reminiscent of Neon Genesis Evangelion/Code Geass, but not in a good way. Some humorous scenes and interesting storylines in the early going, but the overall story is not very compelling. The motivations of most of the characters come across as very generic, IMO.

Haikyuu!! Second Season
Continued growth of the ol' Karasuno volleyball team, who train with strong Tokyo teams in summer camp, learning new tricks and improving their play in the process. They then go back home and compete against their regional opponents (incl. Aoba Johsai once again). Focus of the season shifts slightly away from Hinata & Kageyama, putting other characters into forefront at times (e.g., new manager-in-training of Karasuno's team, Tsuki, Yamaguchi, one of the backups, and various other characters of other competing teams). Good story and addictive watch, but cliffhanger ending (for now...!)

Story about the downward spiral of a brother and younger sister in Japan trying to cope with the latter stages/aftermath of WWII. No character to really root for. Brother is lazy, unwilling to go to school or find work. Baby sis just tags along. Aunt who tries to give the Brother some tough love comes across as a b*tch. G or PG version of Requiem for a Dream, but not very compelling, IMO.

Appreciate the friendship theme of the story, and didn't mind that the story didn't go into a lovey/romance territory. That said, was put off by what I felt was the glorification (to some extent) of the stalker-like tendencies of the main male character (Yuuki Hase) towards the main female character (Kaori Fujimiya).

K-On!
Series follows the lives of a small group of girls who are the members of the light music club in an all-girls high school: (i) Ritsu, the club president and drummer, who's the most brash of the bunch; (ii) Mio, the super-shy bassist who scares easily and is probably the most level-headed one of the bunch; (iii) Tsumugi, the keyboard player who's a bit of an airhead and is super rich; (iv) Yui, the guitar player who has a super-amped up cute/"moe" factor; and (v) Azusa, the underclassmen who's serious about guitar. The story basically follows their life in the club, where they mostly drink tea, eat pastries and occasionally practice playing their music. Enjoyable watch.

Keijo!!!!!!!!
If you don't take it seriously, it's a fairly entertaining watch. Competitive sport of Keijo involves girls using their boobs and butts to attack each other in "races" with the goal being to be the last player standing on a platform. Each of the primary characters tends to have her own sort of special power (think One Piece devil fruit users, except the powers here are boob/butt-related....).

Kidou Senshi Gundam
Main protagonist (Amuro Ray) is an unlikable, whiny brat. Found myself rooting against him the entire series. Most of the other "good guys" (i.e., the crew on White Base) are extremely one-dimensional and may be prone to throwing hissy fits at random times. Char was the most compelling character of the series. Despite the length of the series, several developments seemed far too sudden; pacing could have been better. The overall story was interesting enough, especially considering the year that this show first came out. The show did a pretty good job conveying the humanity of both sides in a war, rather than a simple good vs. evil battle.

Kono Bijutsu-bu ni wa Mondai ga Aru!
Usami is a member of her middle school art club, and is the only member who is fairly serious (in a normal way) about art and the club itself. She has a crush on another club member (Uchimaki) who happens to only like 2D girls. Uchimaki is in the art club to draw/paint pictures of waifus. The club president sleeps all the time, while the other member (Collette) pretty much just fools around most of the time.
The anime plays out as a school comedy, with some romance. Reminds me of Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (in terms of the girl liking the guy who totally doesn't realize it), with a splash of Chuunibyou in the latter half of the series (new girl introduced who is somewhat similar to the main character of Chuunibyou). Definitely some pretty funny moments throughout the series. Romance elements were a bit redundant, maybe due to my binge-watching of the series....! |

Kuma Miko
A mostly entertaining, slice-of-life comedy about a 14-yr old country girl who lives with a talking bear in a temple and who wants to go to high school in a big city despite her complete lack of familiarity with modern society. Some moments in show were a bit off-putting, which resulted in my score being knocked down; Yoshio's behavior towards Miko can, at times, be construed as sexual harassment, despite the director/manga author's attempt to spin it as otherwise.

Kuragehime
Story revolves around a jellyfish-loving girl (Tsukimi) and her 4 nerdy NEET friends/building mates, with each of the girls being socially awkward and having their own specific otaku tendencies. One night, Tsukimi notices a jellyfish in trouble at a fish store/aquarium, but struggles to speak up, until a beautiful, well-dressed "woman" (Kuranoske) steps in. Kuranoske becomes fascinated by Tsukimi her friends, spurring a new and unlikely friendship. Kuranoske tries from time to time to "glam up" Tsukimi and the others, and they work together to try to save their boarding house from being demolished.
Entertaining story, but dampened by weak ending that was too abrupt and open-ended (left hanging on what happens to the Tsukimi x Kuranoske and Shouko x Shuu ships). |

Lucky☆Star
Funny, slice-of-life with high school girls, each filling a certain niche:
Konata: the witty, lazy weeb who likes watching anime, reading manga, playing ero-games, and has a lolicon dad. Kagami: the "straight man", tsundere and diligent student. Tsukasa: the "cutesy" girl who's poor at studies and good at cooking. Miyuki: the "cutesy", book-smart, wealthy girl who's also a huge klutz. I'd call this a slightly edgier, funnier and "weebyish" version of Azumanga Daioh. |

Mahoujin Guruguru (2017)
Wacky RPG-style adventure that's very self-aware. Contains a lot of comedic parody elements, as well as some adorable young love (particularly from Kukuri).
The overall story, action and comedy were mostly on point to me. The only downside is that the pacing of the series was a bit too fast for my taste; viewers don't really have a chance to breathe and take in everything, as the protagonists quickly go from one adventure to the next. Might have been nice to have a filler episode in between the various adventures. |

Story about a 13 yr. old witch girl who decides to leave home and fly off to a random city to "train" to be a witch, even though we never actually see her do much in the way of training. Instead, she starts a delivery service using her flying ability. The bulk of the movie follows her adventures in making deliveries and developing relationships with some of the characters. Story is structurally similar to, but not quite as funny or heartwarming as, Totoro, IMO. Still a good movie though.

Hard to take the show seriously to start with when the Time God is named "Deus Ex Machina." IMO, the creator is basically telegraphing to the audience that any random event can occur in this show. The two main characters were not particularly likable to me. You've got the bat-shit crazy yandere (Yuno) who's crazy in love with this naive, whiny prepubescent boy (Yukiteru).....just because. Yukiteru can't decide whether he loves Yuno, or whether he's just using her to get through the main game of this show (i.e., killing a selected group of random folks who have been given cell phones with some sort of time-/psychic-related superpowers, where the last person standing becomes the Time God).
Wasn't a particularly enjoyable watch for me. |

Mob Psycho 100
Shigeo (or Mob) is a kind, well-meaning and socially awkward boy who has latent (but extremely strong) psychic powers that manifest at their maximum level when his emotions (e.g., anger, fear, etc.) reach a boiling point. Mob wants to avoid using psychic powers in his day-to-day life and would prefer to live a normal life. He works for Reigen, a con artist masquerading as a psychic who exorcises spirits for his clients. Reigen exploits Mob's abilities for his work. Mob doesn't realize that Reigen is a fraud and, instead, views Reigen as his sensei.
Story follows: (i) the day-to-day life of Mob in school and work; and (ii) the efforts by Ritsu -- Mob's brother who excels in academics but is jealous of Mob's psychic abilities -- to awaken his psychic powers. Mob finds himself dragged into some inter-school gang wars, and ends up being revered by the delinquents as the secret boss of the school, something that Mob is unaware of. In the latter half, a secret psychic society tries to recruit psychics to join their group with a view towards world domination..... Enjoyable watch; I probably enjoyed this more than One Punch Man. Some pretty funny moments here and there, along with some nice action scenes. Story lines also kept me intrigued. |

New Game!
Story revolves around Aoba, a girl just out of high school who decides to go work for a video game company that published her favorite game. She finds out that she'll be working on the sequel to that game as a character designer.
The series is largely a lighthearted slice-of-life comedy. Similar to Shirobako, but with less serious/dramatic moments. Also, every primary and secondary character in this series is a woman...the entire video game company may even consist solely of women! Left me wondering if the series could have benefited from some gender diversity. That said, the personalities of the secondary characters were very complementary to the overall cast, and made for a fun watch. The voice of Nene, Aoba's best friend, was a bit too shrilly/whiny for my liking. I'll give this a 7.5 (round up to 8). |

New Game!!
Where Season 1 centered more around the exhaustive process of making a video game (using humor and levity), Season 2 highlighted some of the internal strife that could occur during the game-making process. As a result, Season 2 seemingly had less light comedy and, instead, more of a slice-of-life/drama element to it. A bit too melodramatic at times for my taste, but still a good follow-up to Season 1.

Nodame Cantabile
Follows the journey of several students attending a music college in Japan. Deals with self-discovery, classical music and love. Had me hooked after the first couple episodes. Noda supplies a good deal of humor with her ditzy squeals and relatively childish actions (most of the time), while Chiaki tends to play the serious, strict, straight man role. Several of the side characters also lend some good humor to the series. The classical music played throughout the series was excellent. Intended to watch this as a relaxing series at night (given the art style), but always found myself wide awake wanting to know what happens next!

First half deals with a "mole" among Bishamon's many shinki, and the history between Yato & Bishamon (Yato killed off nearly all of Bishamon's past shinki because they were corrupting her).
The second half finds Yato in the position of having to team up with his previous shinki (Nora/Hiiro) for extended secret missions, leaving Hiyori and Yukine to wonder where Yato has gone; time has passed to a point that Hiyori nearly forgets Yato & Yukine, but she eventually remembers them. For their final mission (tasked by "Father"), Yato and Nora are asked to save Ebisu (god of fortune) from the underworld. Ebisu has gone to the underworld to seek a brush that allows one to control Ayakashi (demon spirits). Ebisu's goal is to use the brush to control Ayakashi in order to make life better for humans. However, the heavens believe that he wants the brush for potentially evil intentions, and they end up killing him. The season ends with Ebisu having been reincarnated as a boy, and Yato purging himself of Nora. We also find out that Fujisaki (a boy who was part of a triple date with Hiyori and ended up kissing her) is actually Father (Yato and Nora's father), who was also researching controlling Ayakashi and used Ebisu to throw the heavens off his trail. The pivot from the first and second half of the season was a bit abrupt, IMO. Also some cringey, cheesy dialogue here and there, but otherwise, enjoyable watch. |

Ore Monogatari!!
High school rom-com featuring a gentle giant (Takeo), a cool and attractive best bud (Sunakawa) and a cute and short girl (Rinko).
Story starts with Takeo saving Rinko from a molester on a train. Rinko later tracks down Takeo to thank him. Takeo has taken a liking to Rinko, but thinks that Rinko instead has feelings for Sunakawa. Wanting solely for Rinko to be happy, Takeo tries to play the role of cupid for Rinko and Sunakawa, unaware that Rinko's feelings are actually directed towards him. Eventually, Takeo and Rinko become an item, and the series follows their progression as a couple. Very little drama between Takeo & Rinko, as they are extremely head over heals for each other. The real drama in the series mostly comes from other secondary/ancillary characters who have a difficult time confessing their love to someone else. PROS: Likable cast of characters made for an easy-going watch. Most of the comedic moments were well executed (made me laugh out loud quite a bit). CONS: Some of the lovey-dovey aspects of Takeo/Rinko were a bit too cheesy and over-the-top, IMO. Led to no real drama between Takeo & Rinko once they became a couple. Progression of Takeo/Rinko as a couple might be a bit too slow for some. |

Episodes were "hit-or-miss". A few were laugh out loud funny (didn't keep track of which ones, unfortunately), but most were just not funny to me, IMO. Oftentimes, the show seemingly tried to emulate the humor style of the funny Gintama episodes, but it just didn't work for me in this particular series. Found myself struggling to complete this. The boys get locked in a cell together with a long-time prisoner who eventually becomes a "big brother" figure to them. While locked up, the boys go through intense torture/suffering/humiliation from the heads of the school and fellow prisoners. First half of the series relates to the boys' time in the school, while the second half deals with their post-school life and the chase for their respective dreams. Close bonds and deep friendships are common themes throughout. Overall, really compelling story and characters. However, personally never felt the urge to marathon through the series, perhaps due in part to how dark the story was.

Story revolves around a high school student, Sakamoto, who is perfect at pretty much everything. While he maintains a stoic outward appearance, he does show compassion for others through his actions and words. Attempts by others to trip him up (e.g., girls chasing him, delinquent boys jealous of him, teachers, etc.) are ultimately foiled by him with unique and hilarious solutions.
Length of the series was about right, as the "perfect" solutions by Sakamoto might've gotten stale if the series had gone much longer. Ending was a bit abrupt and could've benefited from an extra episode (which originally did not air due to a natural disaster in Japan that delayed the broadcast by a week...). Laughed out loud quite a bit watching this show. Some episodes were really funny, while others tilted a bit more to the drama side. Some of the episodes featured a series of short stories, the endings of which reminded me a lot of the endings of The Daily Lives of High School Boys. |

The main character (Tanikaze) shows up one day on the "surface" of the ship after living all his life "underground." He is found to have some really good piloting skills and is asked to be a pilot a mobile suit and join the space force to battle the Gaunas.
Basically a space version of Attack on Titan. Really nice action scenes. Romance elements were a bit too cheesy for me; Tanikaze is a really good pilot, but otherwise, is a largely on the shy/feeble side. At the same time, he's able to attract the attention/admiration of a handful of female pilots. |

Sidonia no Kishi: Daikyuu Wakusei Seneki
Enjoyment level tapered off as the season went on. Some of the mysteries didn't get fully fleshed out like I had hoped, and wasn't really a big fan of the harem-y elements (dense male protagonist and every girl around him seemingly having feelings for him). In the end, after watching this, came away feeling like "things happened, Sidonia wants to take on a whole bunch of aliens (Gauna), but still don't know really get what's going on." Felt like a drama/action series had shifted a bit too much to subtle harem comedy. Action scenes were largely enjoyable, at the very least.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
Humorous and heartwarming story about 4 high school-aged girls who, through various circumstances, are able to join a Japanese expedition to the Antarctic. Each of the girls have varying degrees of willingness and underlying motivations for joining the trip. Themes center around friendships and the unexpected loss of a loved one. Really enjoyable watch. End of Episode 12 was quite the tearjerker...!

Sore ga Seiyuu!
Shows the ins and outs of starting out as a female seiyuu (voice actresses). First half of the series mostly revolves around Ichinose, who's extremely insecure and lacks confidence, but tries her best. Would probably rate the first six or seven episodes a 6 or 7. The latter half of the series brings other characters into focus (e.g., Rin trying to figure out if she wants a normal high school life or go to a school that would be good for her career but would separate her from her best friend; following the daily life of Ichinose's manager and what she has to go through; etc.). Second half of the series gets a 7 to 8 rating, so the whole thing averages out to a 7 for me.

Broke college boy looking for a job gets roped in by a human-looking alien girl to work as a hero and fight criminals while testing out a power suit that looks like chibi-Ultraman. The group of heroes and villains are part of some power suit testing by some space police government agency, and end up secretly living next to each other in the same apartment building.
Watched the English dub. Some moments were funny and enjoyable, but others were painfully cheesy. Still a decent watch. |

Tamayura: Sotsugyou Shashin Part 1 - Kizashi
First half introduces two new members to the photography club, Fuu's decision to pursue a career in photography/travel, and the idea of how "failed" photos can still convey the feelings/joy of the photographer.
Second half largely deals with Fuu being rattled by news that her idol (Shihomi) would be leaving to Tokyo to work at a gallery/cafe. Chihiro and Tomo-chan also come up and tell Fuu and friends that they plan to study abroad after graduation. |

Tamayura: Sotsugyou Shashin Part 2 - Hibiki
First half centers around Norie having doubts about what her career should be after her brother casually gives her a dose of reality about how hard it will be to become a world-class patissiere. Norie swears off from cooking sweets and tries to find a new career path, but Fuu & Friends interject by asking her to make them desserts one last time, and it's during this point she rediscovers her passion for making sweets. Norie's brother also returns to encourage her.
Second half largely deals with Kaoru trying to figure out her career path. The girls find out Hoboro is getting married, and are asked by Hoboro to help plan the reception; Hoboro was impressed by how the girls pulled off the We Exhibition. We see through past and present events how Kaoru is highly motivated to help others. Kaoru eventually decides to pursue a career as a wedding planner. |

Tamayura: Sotsugyou Shashin Part 3 - Akogare
First half centers around Maon trying to figure out what her career should be. She's torn between pursuing a career in the arts or running the family inn. She chooses the latter, which her dad adamantly opposes. Maon & friends go back to Maon's hometown in an effort to persuade Maon's dad to change his mind. Maon later overhears her parents talking and thinks that her parents are struggling to keep the inn financially afloat. As a result, Maon decides that she'll study economics in college, but that she'll still pursue arts (as well as whatever else interests her).
Second half largely centers around Fuu's fears about each of her friends going off in different career directions. The expectation was that the core 4 friends would still be fairly close to each other given that their colleges of choice were pretty close by to one another. However, for some reason, Fuu starts to feel significant anxiety about everyone drifting away. We later find out the real reason that Fuu is feeling that anxiety.... |

Tamayura: Sotsugyou Shashin Part 4 - Ashita
Movie starts with us finding out that Fuu's camera is pretty much on its last legs.
Fuu has decided to go study in Tokyo and live with Shihomi. Fuu talks to her mom and grandma about her plan, and they fully support her. Fuu gets in touch with Shihomi, who enthusiastically welcomes the plan. Various other talks occur, the girls graduate, and they eventually go their separate ways to pursue their college studies, with the knowledge that they'll always be able to meet back in Takehara. Heartwarming...! |

Wacky and funny story, with romance elements playing a larger role in the latter half of the series.

Reminds me of Hunter x Hunter, with a splash of the drama in Star Wars (the whole master/disciple thing and the force vs. the dark side aspect). Canon episodes: Enjoyable and addictive watch. Main and side characters had some interesting backstories. Filler episodes: Some were pretty funny and entertaining, but I found Naruto to be a bit annoying in these episodes (too hasty and angry....a trait that may have carried on to Shippuden...) |

In-cannon episodes had interesting story lines that kept my attention. Found the key characters (primarily Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke) to be, quite often and IMO, a bit too one-dimensional and annoying. However, found many of the side characters (Shikamaru, Itachi, Kakashi, Rock Lee & Might Guy (in moderation...!), and some of the key villains) to be very compelling, whether in terms of their personality, motivations and/or background. The climax of the final story/battles were a bit too "out there" for my taste (deus ex machina). Enjoyed some of the more lighthearted, comedic fillers, but skipped over a lot of the more "serious" fillers. |
