Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

It's yet another romantic comedy, there are a lot of tropes and clichés to the genre that one might rely on to decide whether one will view it, thus I will mostly focus on listing which common tropes this one fulfills, and which it doesn't.

In a basic nutshell, it's a love development between two archetypes: "tundere" versus "rapey bisyounen" [Don't try this at home; there are legal consequences to both outside of fiction.]; what makes this unusual is that the tundere is the perspective character, which rarely happens, and on top of that, though it is a perspective character, it's not a "self-insert" character — ... as in, the type of character that is purposefully kept bland and lacking any features to facilitate better audience self-insertion. Unlike a lot of romantic comedies, this story lacks a self-insert, and both characters are full of flavor, both very attractive, and both exceptionally skilled at a variety of things.

The major flaw that is very common to romantic stories it suffers from is that there is about zero progression until the end; they share a lot of moments where the rapey bisyounen seems to break the ice of the tundere, only for most of that to be dismissed in the next episode and the tundere being back to "No, I hate you, you're a perverted, sexual harassing alien!", completely ignoring that in the last episode the former came pretty close to being honest with his feelings — until the very end of course when it moves more towards a resolution of their romantic tension.

This is, to me at least, less of a problem than it normally is, because it is legitimately quite funny and endearing, and watchable for the humor and romantic moments alone even if one not be that interested in its "plot", or dismayed by the lack thereof.

Let's first dive into the characters: The titular perspective character is a female, misandrist, violent tundere, who somehow managed to become student council præsident at a formerly all-male school that is still 90% male, who is an absolute draconic tyrant. The catch is of course that he also secretly works at a maid café where he's forced to address the incoming male patronage with "master" and all those clichés, which he's also actually quite good at, contrasting his domineering and misandrist attitude at school; he's also inhumanly physically strong and goot at about everything, but of course loses temper and cool very easily.

Our rapey bisyouen is a male master gamesman who is also physically and intellectually skilled in about anything, who happened to, by accident, find out about the maid café, and became a regular patron thereafter, keeping the præsident's secret all the same. This character is cool and collected, hard to get upset and plays the præsident like a violin and enjoys making him uncomfortable and constantly sexually harasses him. The interesting thing about the animation style is that animation switches between more realistic and more goofy faces, and that for whatever reason the rapey bisyounen is actually a lot cuter and prettier when he puts his goofy face on whilst trolling, in my opinion.

Both characters are at the very apex of the social hierarchy and idolized and coveted by males and females alike. For whatever reason despite the præsident being perceived as an absolute tyrant, especially to males, this still does not seem to stop them from coveting his attention, with about half of them being implied to be masochists.

The interactions between these two are absolutely the highlight of the show; the chemistry between them is amazing as afforded by the fact that neither is a self-insert.

The series also features a lot of cross-dressing. I præviously remarked that the rapey bisyounen actually isn't that good of a bisyounen. It wouldn't be Japan of course, if our female tundere not habitually cross-dress, and actually look far better as a bisyounen than our rapey bisyounen looks. There are also two characters that frequently do male-to-female cross-dressing, one less willing than the other, neither of whom I found particularly interesting in that respect, whereas I usually think cross-dresssers look really good.

My absolute biggest problem is the eventual introduction of a romantic rival, because it's kind of an annoying character that adds little outside of it and has no real chance, but most importantly you just feel so sorry for this character losing, this is one of the few cases where they introduce a losing romantic rival and the pain of loss is actually portrayed rather than glossed over — ordinarily, I would applaud this, but it feels like such a stark contrast from this otherwise fluffy series, and I really felt sorry for him, regardless of how annoying the character is.

Overall it was a pretty basic rom com anime the show had its funny moments but most of it seemed to have like a cringey fanfic feel but I think that makes it kinda funny in a way but I don’t understand how anyone could like the main love interest he was just a perv who could be quite rude at times people also say it’s a shame it didn’t get a second season but there really was no need for one unlike fruits basket and OHSHC the anime seemed by the last episode the main love interest got the girl and confessed there feelings ... which is usually the end goal with most romance anime honestly if there was a second season I don’t think I would have watched it just because by the end of the show I was getting bored with the anime and would just put it on as background noise as I did school work or chores any sways I still recommend watching it but it’s a good binge watch anime

Music:
The most memorable music was the cute intros and outros for the commercials. The theme song is good, and there was certainly some good sound effects!

Characters:
Honestly, I loved them all. They were all so unique and defined. And in the end, they all seemed to have a resolution to their plot. The only sad part is a childhood friend of Misaki, Hinata Shintani, comes back and is going to keep trying for her love, so I was a bit sad to see that continuing on. But everyone was just so amazing.

Story:
I feel like it could have left a little less to the imagination in ... terms of how the story would have continued with Hinata Shintani, the childhood friend in love with Misaki, but overall I feel like there were a lot of good happy endings to the show. I loved how Misaki was just such a strong female character.

Final thoughts:
I watched all 10 hours of this show in 1 day. I'm a little exhausted, but I loved this and would recommend it. Its a romantic without getting etchy, which is nice and refreshing. It wasn't too sexual, but it was funny in a dirty way. I really kept hoping there might be an episode where she actually does become his maid for a day, but alas, that was not meant to be. Overall it was a great show, and really showed me how a dom plays' with their partner. :stuck_out_tongue: Haha, if only...but I'm too kind to treat anyone like that.

I thoroughly enjoyed this anime, I ifnished it within a matter of three days I believe? And that's because I've been busy.
The storyline is simple, typical even. But my attachment to the characters kept pulling me on and on. I challenge anybody to watch this and not fall in love with a character or two.
The complete opposition of personalities is a driving focus, often we're shown a delinquent and a beautiful, popular girl or a nerdy girl and a beautiful popular boy. In this anime, both characters have met their match in every aspect. Rivals? Lovers? Intelligence? Fitness? Or just how stubborn they ... both are!
If you're a fan of romance, comedy, high school, love triangles and an irresistible protagonist, you need to watch Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is an anime that has a very appealing hook at the beginning of the series but as it progresses I felt that so much potential was lost.

One of the main draws of this anime started with the high school itself. Most animes tend to take place in some prestigious academy and when seeing just how run down Seita High School felt like a breath of fresh air. You see Misaki doing her best to make the school better but it seems that everything is against her. She is smart, intelligent and hard working but is forced to go this sub-par school ... because her family is too financially unstable to send her somewhere better. This forces her to work at a maid cafe to help support her family but is afraid of her secret being leaked out to her fellow peers.

While I understand that this is supposed to be some sort of romantic comedy I feel that this anime lost its way as it progressed. It had a unique setting with a unique character in a unique situation but it soon falls on its face. It becomes this wacky, generic romantic comedy when it could have been so much more. For instance I wanted more time given to Misaki's financial struggles and how it affects her work and schooling, or how run down the school really is and the gravity of their situation. Heck there was a potential development with Misaki concerning her father and how he ditched the family. This is a such traumatic event for any child to experience yet the anime makes light of this when it could have been used to further develop Misaki and give insight as to why she is the person she is. Heck perhaps have an episode where the man comes back and have an arc where Misaki is struggling because of that. To actually address the possible domestic issues that is plaguing Misaki and see her conquer it in the end. To me that would show more strength than her just pasting some unlucky fools left and right.

The anime was supposed to have shown Seita High as this underfunded, almost dangerous school to attend and yet that goes out the window by episode 3 when three of the antagonists suddenly become Misaki's biggest fans. While I'm fine with these three delinquents coming to terms and making up with Misaki they way it was executed was nothing short of silly. They suddenly become these pansies when they had the potential of being Misaki's biggest obstacles in bettering the school. The entire setting goes from this dangerous, ghetto school to your typical anime high school setting after the first five episodes, destroying the very thing that made this anime interesting to begin with. I have no problem with these three guys (the baka trio) making up with Misaki in the end but I felt that it should have been treated with more seriousness. After all one of the characters in the baka trio, Naoya Shirakawa, was supposed to have been a very dangerous character during his middle school days and his potential of being an early antagonist to Misaki was destroyed before it had a chance to even begin. Even if they did make up considering the background of these characters I thought it a grave injustice to have someone like Shirakawa end up becoming some stupid idiot. I would have liked him and his friends to be allies with Misaki and perhaps even still go to the Maid Cafe to see her but still remain very dangerous characters that you wouldn't want to mess with instead of the clowns they ended up becoming in the anime.

While I'm all for girls who can kick some ass the way they set Misaki as nearly untouchable is silly. It destroys any credibility this anime was trying to show that Seita High was this barbaric school. I wanted to see Misaki struggle more, to actually take caution that she would not be a target of gang violence in school. Have some of the male students even make death threats to her. Stuff that would make Seita High a dangerous school to attend. Perhaps go further with the gangs and have the trouble of turf wars within school grounds with Misaki doing her best to quell the violence before someone got killed.

I still enjoyed the anime for what it was but again I felt that it lost its way. This anime could have been something else. Not only a romantic anime but an anime that took a serious look at the Japanese Public School system and its flaws, gang violence, domestic problems and poverty all serious issues that this anime could have worked with and had at its disposal but instead flaked out after the first couple of episodes and becomes just another generic anime in the end.

Kaichou wa Maid-Sama could have been so much more than just a generic romantic comedy. I watched this anime hooked from the beginning but then got bored of it by episode 20 and barely managed to finish it without giving up. This is not a bad anime, it is decent but that, in itself, is a disappointment.

A romantic, slice-of-life kinda show about a really serious minded student council president girl who also happens to work in a maid cafe. Her secret gets exposed to a certain guy and stuff ensues.

The comedy here is fairly enjoyable even if its not terrible original. The characters are all mostly likable and there isn't anything that's really grating. They animation sometime slips into an off manga style occasional but its not jarring enough to be annoying.

Your school has a president. She hates guys but she goes to a nearly all guys school.

You decide to follow her one day, to attempt to decode what the heck's going on with her. And she enters a... maid cafe??? She must just be a lesbian right? WRONG. She works there.

This is the basic premiss for Kaichou wa Maid-sama: the president, Misaki is secretly a worker at the local maid cafe, but her secret is slowly exposed.

This leads us further into the story, a fairly average shoujo rom com, although the frame is original, so it's better than the average, Not great, but better than ... average.

What really makes this show are the great characters. Between Misaki (the diligent and genius president) and Usui Takami (the one person who can ever beat her), it's really a place where only one notable rom com comes to mind (special A). Also, what makes this show stand out far above the average rom com is that both the supporting and main characters can both play a full role in the development of the story, and really make it interesting to watch, even overriding its episodic nature.

The art is too, fairly good in this show. Although I was thrown for a bit of a spin at the beginning of the show by the paling effect of something that looked like a film over the screen, I soon realized that the characters were much better drawn than average, and that the art stands out from other shows, with my only, small complaint, being the lack of bright colors.

The sound too is very good. The actors do their jobs, and are able to capture the teasing-flirtatious/ angry-embarrassed relationship between Usui and Misaki, something that is not often done. Throw on a great op and ending, and we have great sound for this anime

So, at last, the coup de graw, was this show enjoyable? The short answer is a yes: for a very large portion of the show, it is extremely comical, and everything is drawing me to keep on watching Kaichou wa Maid-sama, with only a couple episodes not really appealing to me.

The bottom line is that if you want to watch a shojou romantic comedy that's still very good, avoids sappy elements, and in general will keep drawing fans of the genre in for more, I highly recommend Kaichou wa Maid-sama. It just goes beyond the general call of duty for a show of the genre, despite it's average story line.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama, it has and hopefully will continue to be, udderly enjoyable :).

For me, even though I'm male, I still like this kind of anime (some rumors told me that this is shojo). Then I thought that this anime is funny, especially Usui (he's rather crazy or easily speaking in my mother tongue : "sarap"). The art is typical shojo. The character development is rather ordinary and slow-paced

I mainly enjoy it for the Misa and Usui parts, and the rest is HILARIOUS.

Still, the chemistry between Misa and Usui is so totally CUTE. Even though I think they're the best couple EVER, I dont want them to date, the love between them NOW is perfect. It would be horror for it to have them suddenly show loads of puppy love and date each other and be madly in love *shudder*

Even Kanou is a cute character, he somehow resembles one of those hermits, hiding from the world. Its so funny when he yells at Misaki, telling her about ... the bunny outfit (Episode 15) and when he made that remark on Yukimura wearing that dress, 'I respect you the most, Yukimura Senpai'

Altogether, its a fascinating show for every 12-16 year old! I absolutely adore the plot!

My friends have been bugging me for a year to watch this and it's always on hold since I don't watch much animes anymore.
One day, I did though.
I came to watch this knowing it's shoujo so I didn't expect a much compelling storyline like FMA etc so if you're looking for pure enjoyment/entertainment, I definitely recommend this. LIKE VERY MUCH YES.

It's a romance anime. I very much love the part that Usui and Misaki usually spend their time with each other. The storylines aren't bad either. They're actually very entertaining.

I appreciate the chibi-drawings. They add much to the character's expressions. The reason ... why it's a 7 is because Usui's hair slicked back severely bothers me.

I can live without the sounds and look at the subtitles only. Sometimes the sounds enhances the ~feel of romance, sometimes it's meh. But with the anime voices, they're actually good.

I like both Usui and Misaki's character as well as the supporting ones. I usually don't like the seemingly perfect characters. But I at least see that Usui also needs to go to hospital sometimes. And Misaki gets bruised too. Plus, most importantly, I CAN NEVER REALLY HATE A CHARACTER. They're all so lovely I can't even.
Usui gets possessive at times, Misaki gets insensitive too. But these flaws are much entertaining to watch I can't ever see it as a downside.

I see the flaws of the anime as I do this review but really, they don't matter as much. I went and watched it and never regretted doing so. I'm actually quite thankful I saw this.
The true beauty in watching this show is being completely absorbed in it/ have fun/ laugh along.

Usui is kind of casanova, breaking other girls' hearts. Throught all the anime he's trying to make Misaki fall in love with him - only because she's the only girl he love.
This anime is so sweet, but it always has taste. And, there're 3 Spices - friends of Misaki and Usui. When they're discovering Misaki's secret they're starting to like her and helping her. (lol sorry for verbal repetition, but my English is...omg ... so bad).
So in shortcut: really sweet story about poor girl and rich boy, slowly falling in love with themselves.

All I'm going to write is this anime is worth watching. It has everything you like to expect in a anime; the comedy, humour in the characters, romance and other. I love the art moreover. Got to watch this! Don't miss it

this anime is a great romance/comedy. i fell in love with this anime at the beginning. i really recommend this anime. i can say that if u liked special a than u will love this.

The manga was quite okay and i was actually excited that the manga was being made into an anime but the anime was not as exciting as i thought it would be as i didn't like the slow development.
As you may wonder what this show is about,it's about Misaki who is a president in a recently made from being an all boys school to a CO-ED school so there are very little girls.Misaki is the typically always get good marks girl and of course,the male lead is better than her at very single thing :)She initially hates him but then...The development comes in.It's alittle mushy ... but i recommend you to read the mangamore than the anime :)

part time work!Sounds tough huh??Well,that's Ayuzawa Misaki,the main character of Kaichou wa Maid-sama occupation and eventhough she doesn't like it,she have to deal with it.Nowadays,many people do their job not because they like it but simply cause they have to do it to make living for their own and for the people they love.The same goes for Misaki.Living only with her mother and her little sister,without a father who had left a bunch of debt ... to her family,life has been pretty harsh for her.She has to work part time to keep up her family financial condition sufficient for their daily expense.But,even in a deep grief you still can sleep.
Even in a suffer,you still can always put up a smile on your face.

Misaki is a strong woman.She always bare with her difficult circumstance.This is what makes

It's never been an easy task to make a nicely made romance-comedy-slice of life anime.It has to be something unforgettable,and doesn't copying another famous series.The tearjerking Clannad Afterstory,the famous Kimi ni Todoke,the funny School Rumble and the cute Nogizaka Haruka.Well,nothing can be compared to those anime.All of it have their own style and all of it are marvelous.And now,we have Kaichou wa Maid-sama.What is it that will make this series becoming one of the groundbreaking romance anime?

The story take place in a coed school which was an all-male high school.The main character of this story,Misaki,is the Student Council President of this school.She's a perfectionist type of person.So strict,diligent,brave,and a girl with a high ambition to make the school become a better place to study.So to put it simply,her mission is to make all of the delinquent in her school to be tamed and obeying the school's rule.But in the same time she's a maid in a cafe and one day,the most popular guy in her school,Takumi,found out that she's working part time at the cafe as a maid.

That's a short intro for Kaichou wa Maid-sama.I don't expect too much about this one,but hey!
It's amusing.It's amusing but not too interesting.The start of this anime is a bit classic for me.
A perfectionist female protagonist,trying to be the figure of her school with her outstanding
grade,hardworking student council president,a peace-lover,and very strict in school's rule,meanwhile she has a secret.Yes,this secret is a very important point to trigger a flag with the male protagonist.While she's a perfectionist at school,she's working part time at a cafe to support her family economy cause her family is poor and kinda broken home though it's a happy one even without a father.The male protagonist also a very common type of main character in a romance anime,a popular guy,many girls adore him,and he's nearly perfect as a student.Well,the storyline is pretty much predictable but its light content,its nice art,and its charming main character is nicely made and overshadowed the predictable plot.So I will say this is good for the start.

Now,I will reviewing for episode 2-10.It sure took a lot of time for Takumi to get Misaki's
heart.She really isn't a cheap woman that will fall to him in the first sight like the other
girls did.Well,but that doesn't mean that their relationship become stagnant and going nowhere.
I can feel that for each episode,they develop it slowly but surely.Ultimately after 6th episode.
I really glad that in episode 7th and 8th,an antagonist show himself in this anime.It make things
a lot more interesting and make Takumi and Misaki get closer after they dealing with the problem
made by the antagonist.In 9th episode.....,you will get nothing but a filler.And in 10th episode,
it's all about Misaki's friendship with Sakura and Shizuko.It's nice.I mean,it won't be anything
good if you only watch the romance development between Misaki and Takumi.You'll get bored easily.(Is it only me or the guy named Kuuga is resembling Takumi a lot??lol).After watching episode 2-10,I guess all that I can say is that the relationship between Takumi and Misaki is developing significantly towards something 'serious'.Of course,all of it is because of Takumi's aggresitivity and his extremely great timing.Man,he really is persistent.

Okay,now I'll reviewing episode 11-20.
There is some progress,but it didn't feel too much.I would rather see this anime more like
a genuine school life with a lot of humor and comedy scene than a lovey-dovey romantic one.
For me,the romantic portion is kinda bit reduced.But I still love Misa.She's so cute when
she's blushing.Moreover,her sadistic habit is a bit reduced too so I'm pretty much glad
about it.There is a new unique character here.But he's only appear for a couple of episode
and I think he will quickly being forgotten.Ohhh,the heart-throbing scene in the last moment
in 17th episode is the best.It make me feels warm.Saikou!The best episode from 11-20.There's
an obstacle for Maid Latte to defend their store existence in episode 18.I'm glad the solvation
of the problem goes smoothly in episode 19.And as a result,starting after episode 19,the
relationship between Misaki and Takumi getting a lot deeper.

Now it's time for the 21st-the end.Third party!This is the main attention from episode 21-26.
Hmm,I can smell a very sweet jealousy and a rivalry.Whoops,can't say too much cause I'm afraid I'll spoil it.Just enjoy it!New character appears and it's not half-assed.

And the affection developed betweem both of them in the story is make satisfied.

In my opinion,this one is worth to watch.A bit lack at the ending,but I still like it.
I hope there will be 2nd season for this anime.I'm personally recommend this one for anyone

It was aired in animax, so what the heck . first , Misaki is strong, brave and the class president.

A=here is the cath , she doesn't go to a good high school. All of her schoolmates especially the men are idiots. Usui ( i have just found out the name) has to save her from idiots that tried to make a move on her. Like one time Misaki was forced to go on a date with a contest winner, ... Usui, came to the rescue.

Q: so is this anime worth watching? (i am a boy)
A: Misaki, is a strong protagonist, sexy, she is an independent woman, but i have to remind you this is shoujo anime. People aroundthe lead want happiness for her, for no reason at all .
They boys in her school were known to be unruly, why the heck they suddenly let a girl boss them around with an iron fist, and Usui is the typical cool right guy with attitude as abrassive as can be.

So, no because this will scar you for live destabilize you. But i got a feeling that the girls will love this anime. Because Misaki is not the steorotype helpless girl.

Honestly i can't rate this show because i am a boy and it's in my DNA to hate this kind of show. so i just give it 6

Just finished the anime, i must say it was a delight.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama ! is about a young female student Ayuzawa, Misaki who is the president of the school with a hidden life of working at a maid cafe.The male lead -Usui takumi,being the totally attractive flower boy of the school with a impassive charcater who develops an romantic interest in her.

Story: Truthfully, the plot sounds slight generic with the poor girl hot guy story.
But the twist to it was her job at the maid cafe, which the story is build on .which made the plot interesting enough for me to want to watch it.

Art: ... The anime art is good, for me at least. Best watch in HD is possible.
i find some of the characters in some scenes cute.

Sound: The ost of the anime is one of the favourite, theres relaxing music with some rock music. i found that the music to be something anyone who enjoy if you don't have anything specific in mind

Character:The leads to be a rather enjoyable character to watch,with her ''demon president'' personal appearing and Usui with his ridiculously good timing to save Misaki and his hilariously/super hot behaviour.

Overall, the anime is an 8 for me. I just think that they should have more episodes to really solidly develop the leads relationship with the others.
A recommend rom-com with a Bishōnen male lead.

Hmm . . . simple . This anime was just completely amazing . Every single part about it . It includes suspense , romances (love triangles) , and a bunch of wonderful elements an anime should have . This anime will leave any one at the edge of their seat , but of course , there is a limit to it . I'd suggest watching this if your like me , enjoy bits of action , romance , character evolution , school-life in any sort of way , and just a over all great story line . Now if only the makers can see that ... many people loved it . I'm sure I speak for many others, there should be another season . Overall rating : AMAZING !

Kaichou wa maid-sama is one of the best anime i have ever watched. So I thought of making a review on why I like it so much, and that who ever reads my review, will make them want to watched it.

Firstly when i first saw Kaichou wa maid-sama I really didn't seem to be interested, but after watching a similar anime called "Special A" I thought "Oh look this looks a little like Special A" so I gave it a shot. At first i didn't get what was going on. Which made me a little confused on the story a little. After watching the anime ... a little longer, the story became more clearer and more fun to watch. The story line is good, because of the fact that it is not a typical love story of when a boy meets a girl and they become in-love. Furthermore it is very interesting that the creator of this anime did not rush the way Usui and Misaki's found that they loved each other. This makes the anime more interesting because people would usually think that, when a boy and girl meet they expect them to love each other and in the future have a "problem" which makes them hate each other, and they find a way to come back together. That is the common way of making a Simple Romance since this is used a lot in Movie's. Kaichou wa maid-sama is also unique because of the fact that, the creator manage to think about an idea of using a high school student, working at a maid cafe, because of how hard life can be.

This is one of the main reason of why I liked the anime so much, on the other hand there are some let downs. I think that the creator made Usui the character I little bit overpowered and that he needed more episodes in how got to the same school as Misaki. It would have been better if we new about Usui's past since, all we know from people that watched the whole anime series is that he comes from a "rich" family, and that he is naturally an overpowered character which is good but it would've have been more interesting for people to know what, where, how, who, why Usui was here since for all we know he could have just been there temporally or he was kicked out of his mansion.

But still this anime is near enough perfect, I Re-watched this anime atleast about 5 times, episode 1 - 26, since it so good.

Lastly I was just wondering will there be a Second Season? because in the Manga there is a lot of scenes I have not seen and I would like it to be converted into an anime. Besides so many people is requesting for a 2nd season for Kaichou wa maid-sama

Well about this anime, it's the BEST anime I've seen my whole life besides Naruto Shippuden. So I'm rating this anime 10/10. I've NEVER seen such PERFECT combination of Comedy and Romance at the same time. I love how the story goes from the first episode until the last episode, it's SO CUTE, FUNNY and VERY ENTERTAINING for a guy like me. However, I can't find any English version online but it's fine to me, I like Misaki's original voice better. Ratings of this anime is high so I RECOMMEND this to all people who likes Comedy with a big teaspoon of Romance. And to ... all the people who loves this anime / fans, please continue to support this anime. I'm REALLY HOPING that there'll be a second season being made, I was very teased on the last episode and I'm very eager to watch the second, and the last episode made me watch the anime 1 more time.
