Kanojo, Okarishimasu 4th Season

At this point, I don’t know whether I’m watching an anime or just a 24-minute TED Talk on how to embarrass yourself in front of women. Four seasons in, and Kazuya is still proving to the world that human evolution can, in fact, go backwards. Honestly, I’m starting to think Darwin would drop-kick his TV if he saw this.

The plot? Oh, you mean the eternal cycle of “fake girlfriend, real feelings, misunderstanding, cry, repeat”? It’s like watching someone microwave the same bowl of instant ramen four nights in a row and acting shocked when it tastes the same. Newsflash: it’s still soggy noodles, bro.

And Kazuya ... himself… man. This guy has fumbled more times than the entire NFL combined. Every episode is a highlight reel of secondhand embarrassment. If awkwardness were a superpower, he’d have solo’d Thanos by now. Instead, he just solos my patience.

The heroines? They’re basically the Avengers of wasted potential. Chizuru could star in her own actual romance drama, but instead she’s stuck babysitting Kazuya’s emotional breakdowns. The rest? They orbit him like confused satellites around the world’s weakest sun.

“Kanojo, Okarishimasu” isn’t really a romcom anymore. It’s performance art an avant-garde comedy where the joke is on us for still watching. Honestly, if they greenlight season five, I won’t even be mad. I’ll just grab popcorn and watch how low this show can dig. Because at this point, it’s less about romance and more about scientific curiosity: how much cringe can one human endure before imploding?

And honestly? If Kazuya ever wins “Best Romcom Male MC” in any anime award, I’m personally demanding a Recount because clearly the voting machines were hacked.

If you thought this season would finally deliver meaningful character development or emotional payoff… think again. Season 4 is nothing more than a recycled mess of fake dates, awkward tension, and a protagonist who still hasn’t grown a spine.

- **Plot stagnation**: The so-called “Paradise Arc” promised depth and drama. What we got was filler disguised as romance.
- **Character regression**: Kazuya remains painfully indecisive, Chizuru is emotionally locked down, and the rest of the cast feels like reruns of their former selves.
- **Tone confusion**: The anime tries to appeal to adults with sexual innuendos and fanservice, yet the storytelling feels juvenile and repetitive.
- **Production vs. substance**: ... Visually, it’s polished. Narratively, it’s hollow. The staff clearly prioritized quantity over quality.

Honestly, it feels like the creators are just dragging this out for profit. If anything fresh or meaningful ever comes from this series again, it’ll be because fans demanded fairness and emotional honesty—not because the studio suddenly remembered how to write.

I can already tell I am going to get absolutely clowned on for this review and to be honest, I am 100% ok with this. I have already accepted it.

Rent a Girlfriend. What in the fuck can I say about this show that hasn't been said by now? This is going to be a very clowned on statement but I like RAG. I find this show to be very enjoyable despite its many issues. Let's take it from the top. I'm not going to individually review each season because I can't be fucked. However, I'll do a summary.

Rent a Girlfriend is about a ... guy known as Kazuya, who rents out a girl known as Chizuru due to being dumped by his partner Mami. He then falls in love with Chizuru and the story goes in so many goddamn directions, it's pretty hard to summarize the events

Season 1: Really enjoyed - Introduced us to the cast of characters, and gave us possibly the most frustrating confession I have ever witnessed in a romance anime and I have seen a lot of romance anime.

Season 2: Also really liked, not the best season. However, it showed Kazuya was willing to go through great lengths just for Chizuru. It also expanded on the characters back stories.

Season 3: By far my favorite season of the bunch so far. It also introduced us to Yaemori who was a fantastic character.

Season 4: What in the fuck was the start of this season? - The first 30 seconds of the show starts of with Kazuya gooning and having a mini Sumi covering his crotch (why'd they have to do Sumi like that?) - This season follows Kazuya on a trip with Chizuru, his Grandma, Mami and Ruka and a few other friends that are mostly just there. Mami is dead set on telling Granny about the fake relationship and what's really been going on. They all get into ridiculous situations to try and avoid all that and Kazuya tries non stop to try and ask Chizuru out to make a lie into a truth.

Despite the completely out of pocket start to the season, I actually liked this season. Don't get me wrong, it was probably my least favorite out of all the seasons, but I still liked it. I do wish we got more Sumi and Yaemori, but that's complete biased because Sumi is my favorite. I do wish she was there though for real because she's more of the voice of reason and she's a fantastic support. She could have been there to comfort.

As for the cast

Chizuru: I like, she seems the most normal out of all of them, but I do really wish she would learn to speak up and stop letting people walk over her. She could have easily told Mami to piss off and mind her own, but she didn't. There were so many times, but she just didn't.

Sumi: The best girl (biased) - Consistently has been a fantastic character, a great support, adorable and overall a great girl. Really wish she got more screen time and I'm not just saying that because she is my favorite, but she's also gotten the least amount of screen time in this anime and that's disappointing because the episodes with Sumi feel so refreshing and they're really sweet.

Ruka: annoying

Yaemori: She feels like the voice of all the audience. When we're basically begging for plot progression and for these 2 to finally get together. Yaemori feels like the personification of all of us and she's there to pass our message on. She literally out right tells Chizuru how Kazuya feels. She did in 1 episode what he couldn't do for 3 seasons. She was a very well needed character.

Mami: It's annoying how she knows how to make a great point. I can't get a read on her to be honest. I can't tell if she's doing it to get back at Kazuya for breaking up, because she actually cares about him or she just wants to be a dick. I can't tell, but every time she has made a good point. About how Chizuru has really dragged this on and how she really needs to come clean.

Rent a Girlfriend is not a show for people who are a fan of romance anime because if you're wanting a confession, it's basically never going to happen. It's more for people just wanting a laid back anime (that is the best way I can put that) as whilst yes there is romance portions, it never goes anywhere and it feels quite frustrating at times. I don't know why I like RAG so much, but I just do.

My order goes from best to worst: Sumi, Chizuru, Yaemori, Mami, Ruka

Season 4 of Rent-A-Girlfriend is, sadly, more of the same—and that's not a compliment. Much like its third season, it offers little more than recycled drama, shallow character development, and an infuriatingly spineless protagonist.

Kazuya remains the poster child of what many would consider an insult to masculinity: a cowardly, obsessive simp who continuously makes questionable decisions and never grows as a person. If anyone finds themselves identifying with this character, I genuinely feel sorry for them. His behavior often borders on stalking, and watching him fumble through yet another season of self-inflicted misery becomes more cringe-inducing than entertaining.

What makes it worse is that he has ... Ruka Sarashina—a loyal, energetic girl who literally throws herself at him and is more than willing to be in a relationship. She’s kind, devoted, and constantly proves how much she wants to be with him. But Kazuya? He ignores her completely in favor of hopelessly chasing his fantasy of dating Chizuru, a girl who has repeatedly shown disinterest. His obsession isn’t romantic—it’s pitiful.

The only redeeming aspect of the series continues to be its female characters, who are written with far more depth and visual quality than the lead. It's ironic—Rent-A-Girlfriend is supposedly centered on Kazuya, yet the women around him carry the entire show.

Adding to the discomfort is the manga author's bizarre online presence, where his obsession with one of the characters spills over into social media in unsettling ways. It’s hard to separate the art from the artist when the creator’s public behavior casts such a strange shadow over the work.

What’s truly infuriating—and downright laughable—is the fact that a series like this has been renewed for four full seasons, while genuinely heartfelt and well-crafted shows like Our Dating Story: The Experienced You and the Inexperienced Me, Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway, Interviews with Monster Girls, and Bloom Into You have either been left hanging or never even got a second season. These shows offer emotional maturity, character growth, and meaningful storytelling—things Rent-A-Girlfriend has actively avoided since day one.

In the end, Season 4 is just another loop in an endless cycle of mediocrity. It relies on tired tropes, fanservice, and emotional manipulation, with no interest in evolving or respecting its audience’s intelligence. Unless you’re here purely for the girls or enjoy watching a protagonist fumble through the same mistakes on repeat, there are countless better anime far more deserving of your time—and a second season. Hopefully, this will be the final season. At some point, even the most patient viewers deserve closure—or at the very least, mercy.

I don't understand why this season is getting so much hate. This may not be the most articulate review, but I really feel that this season hasn't been bad at all. Am I the only one? Bro, it's Rent-a-Girlfriend for crying out loud. I think we all know what we are getting ourselves into when watching each newly released episode. I continue to see people complain that the story isn't progressing. Who cares? This is my guilty pleasure, man. This may also be a crazy take, but I feel like Kazuya has at least made some progress with Chizuru this season? Mind you, I haven't ... read the manga. We still have the same excellent quality in art, ost, and flehsed out characters. I'm not going to name drop any series, but I can think of a few where it seems like the romantic progression seemingly restarts each episode. This season is definitely a solid 7 and I personally look forward to watching a new episode each week.

RENT A GIRLFRIEND SEASON 4 – FIRST IMPRESSION REVIEW

I honestly didn’t expect much from Season 4, but here I am, still watching. Rent a Girlfriend just has this weird pull—it annoys me and hooks me at the same time. If you’re hoping for big changes this season, don’t hold your breath.

[Story]
We’re in the “Paradise Arc” now, and it’s supposed to be a turning point. Mizuhara is dealing with grief, Kazuya is stuck in his own head, and their relationship is… you guessed it, still not going anywhere. There’s a big “do you like me?” moment, but of course, nothing actually changes—every step forward gets dragged ... back by classic Rent a Girlfriend nonsense.

[Characters]
Kazuya is just as awkward and indecisive as ever. Mizuhara still keeps her walls up, even when she opens up a little. The side characters don’t add much—most of the cast feels like they’re just repeating old habits.

[Animation]
TMS Entertainment keeps things looking good. The character designs are stylish, and there’s some energy in the comedy scenes, but nothing stands out as new or memorable. It’s solid, but safe.

[Sound]
Voice acting is as consistent as always. Mizuhara’s VA does a great job, but the music and songs this season are just okay. The OP is catchy for a while, but I skipped it after a few episodes.

[Enjoyment]
To be honest, I get both annoyed and weirdly invested every season. It’s frustrating, but somehow still watchable. If you’ve made it this far, you’ll probably keep watching too, even if you complain the whole time—just like me.

[Final Verdict]
Season 4 is classic Rent a Girlfriend—lots of teasing, not much progress, decent visuals, and the same old drama. If you’re already invested, you’ll keep watching. If you’re looking for real change, you’ll probably just get frustrated.

This show is a prime example that people will find reasons to keep watching, knowing full well that there is nothing fulfilling ahead. Just like most fans of the show, I was also captivated by the interesting aspect of a rental girlfriend as the core dynamics of the show. As the show progressed, I was patiently waiting for some fruitful development between Kazuya and Chizuru. But it never came. The author simply dragged it out as a money crop, and at one point miserably fell in love with his own very creation. A cardinal sin no author should commit, defeating the whole purpose of creating ... a show. In a sense, it’s an exploitation of the characters free will within the realm of the story. It’s an interference of the natural progression of the story.

For people who are simply watching the show as an addiction, I heavily encourage them to rethink. Don’t get me wrong, If it wasn’t for the author’s own greedy desire, we all would be enjoying this amazing show. Me personally, will only be watching the series if the author retcon the recent manga chapters or introduce new developments bringing Kazuya and Chizuru together, as its supposed to be.

It's become a running joke to keep watching and reviewing this series with my older brother.

Oh man, where do I begin? Everything I've ever said about S1-S3 is still the exact same except I have to say that Chizuru is a loser. She still continues this facade and allows herself to get rented out by Kazuya despite them being friends for a year and a bit now. They literally aren't strangers yet the anime seems to be obsessed with keeping this up.

As you can tell... This anime series genuinely broke me. I've genuinely never seen something so brain dead continue to go on. Screw this ... anime and it's nothing plot. I've got no creativity because this anime doesn't deserve it.

You know what’s more shocking than Kazuya still being alive after four seasons of simping himself into oblivion? The fact that this dumpster fire actually got four seasons. Somewhere out there, real masterpieces are struggling to get a second cour, while this hot garbage keeps getting renewed like it’s the next Attack on Titan.

Let’s talk about our beloved MC: Kazuya. The human embodiment of flop sweat. The guy has less backbone than a jellyfish in a blender. Four seasons in and he’s still stuttering, drooling, crying, and embarrassing himself in ways that would make even the densest ... romcom protagonist say, “Bro, have some self-respect.” At this point, I’m not even convinced he’s a character. He’s performance art. A social commentary on how low the bar for male leads can go before viewers collectively riot.

And the story? Oh boy. It’s the same rental-girlfriend hamster wheel we’ve been running on since season one. Fake dating. Real feelings. Misunderstandings so forced they deserve their own OSHA violation. And of course, Kazuya crying in the corner like it’s his part-time job. Spoiler: it is his part-time job, apparently for four whole seasons.

The heroines? They’re not even characters anymore. They’re just stock archetypes with prettier hair each season, circling around Kazuya like moths to the dimmest flame imaginable. Chizuru deserves an award for carrying this trash heap on her shoulders, but honestly? At this point, watching her waste her life on Kazuya feels less like romance and more like tragedy porn.

“Kanojo, Okarishimasu” should’ve ended after season one as a mildly embarrassing experiment in simping. Instead, it’s dragged itself through four seasons of repetitive humiliation, somehow lowering the bar each time. If season five ever gets announced, I might start a GoFundMe to buy Kazuya a spine.

Because let’s face it: this isn’t romance. This is masochism and we’re the ones suffering.

And the real plot twist? The fact that this show keeps getting renewed proves one thing: maybe the Demon Lord we actually needed to defeat was anime audiences’ taste all along.

Rent-A-Girlfriend: The 4th Date, 1st Cucking — 4 words: It only gets worse...

In the AniManga realm, I don't care about the labels that people call you as a bonafide lover of anime, but if we can all collectively agree on one thing, it's that we love to shit on (genuine) anime trash. But yet, we also wonder, why does someone like mangaka Reiji Miyajima exist with his infamous series that has continued to deliver dumpster fire levels of defying common sense that make for some great marketing of the manga and the content itself? Apart from last season's Shiunji-ke no Kodomodachi a.k.a The Shiunji Family ... Children (which Doga Kobo really gave the quality it deserves of a "family-not-family" harem), it has been 5 years since the anime started, giving us weebs a taste of what's to come for this rom-com series that has given us lots of wild feelings and emotions, at least up until here, with Season 4's split-season showing that showcases why Kanojo, Okarishimasu a.k.a Rent-A-Girlfriend, is easily one of the most clowned-upon series that always keeps you emblazoned for the infamy that's to come.

With Season 4 covering the manga's longest and most infamous arc — the Paradise Arc, spanning from Volume 22 to 27 of the manga — Part 1's start here, continuing the adaptation where the anime left off at Volume 20, is but only the tip of the iceberg for anyone expecting the "goodness" to come out of this trashy "adaptation". Bear in mind, this is coming off what I think is the best arc of the manga — the Movie Arc that already (and OBVIOUSLY enough) shows how Kazuya Kinoshita's simping of the rental girlfriend that is Chizuru Mizuhara accumulated to create one of the manga's earliest defining high praise points that would make you think that Kazuya is not just honouring his one-sided crush's only dream of making it big, but it's also to her late Granny Sayuri for seeing her dream come true (even on a small basis), which should be a green flag for Chizuru to realize that he's only serious for her. Alas, as much as this is an achievement for the both of them, with Kazuya being "confident and sure" that Mizuhara's his woman to come, he and she (or they) regressed their minds as if the self-funded movie and all of its emotional highs...just didn't exist. Can someone call YELP?

I think it's safe to say that given how far we're into the adaptation of the manga, the key players are not going to stand out as much as they once did. Ruka Sarashina is only more confident that she's going to annoy Kazuya so much until her heartbeat stops working; Mami Nanami continues her unsurprising usual investigative gaslighting work, getting close to the MCs and figuring out their rental partner business shtick; heck, even Mini Yaemori isn't so prevalent at this stage of the manga, taking a backseat alongside Sumi Sakurasawa, whom she is (almost) totally absent from going into the dreams of Paradise. To be fair, I'm not going to regurgitate this if you're a manga reader (and deep into Reiji's rather common-sense-defying rhetoric), but the Paradise Arc, I feel, REALLY shows the "Kiss, Marry, Kill" oration that would make up for what the series has to come through in its adaptation in showing (un)mind-blowingly how much Reiji simps HARDER for his own fictional woman than allowing the same elegance to be bestowed on the young man of his own story. So, anime-onlies, I'm telling you to brace for that incoming fire, because THAT moment to come in Part 2 (which manga readers will inevitably know) will show how much the series has gone so low as to degrade everything that the manga stands for as far as the anime is concerned.

Still, from an anime series standpoint, director Kazuomi Koga and his staff team at TMS Entertainment are dedicated to giving the series its worth in terms of quality, just showcasing the divisiveness for a series that has been the face of infamy in the rom-com space ever since the medium's adaptation started, for a show that many think is just too overrated to give such "good and wasted" quality, that really sells and earns the cash bags way too much to ignore. Even the OST is some level of good, with the excellent streak ongoing with ClariS's OP and Regal Lily's ED (which is OK at best).

Believe me, y'all, when Kanojo, Okarishimasu a.k.a Rent-A-Girlfriend, knows its depths of depravity and, at least up until Season 4's Part 1 here, is not the worst yet, for the "devil in the details" has yet to come and will finally make it reality for a series so insufferable and unsalvageable that it has people thinking, "Why do people just LOVE to market the series so much with all of its clownish tactics?" We'll just have to wait and see until Winter next year to see that infamy come to (anime) life, and "hail" Reiji Miyajima for his causal effect.

You already know Chizuru comes in with those BIG HEAVIES in those resort episodes. Damn those things are insane, but

I gotta agree with that other guy’s comment — I really don’t understand why this season is getting so much hate. Honestly, I think this is the best season of Rent-a-Girlfriend by far.

RAG has always been that one show that’s objectively trash, we know this, but somehow the enjoyment factor is through the roof. This season, though? They actually toned down the trash and still kept it super entertaining.

Kazuya still doesn’t have any major character development, but I’ll admit the closer he gets to Chizuru, ... the less annoying he becomes. He’s tolerable now, which is saying a lot. But let’s be real: Chizuru is the one who really shines this season (not talking about the heavies). She goes from that mysterious, emotionally closed-off bulldog to someone who's actually learning and feeling new emotions. Didn’t expect that level of growth from RAG, but I’ll take it.

Can’t wait to see how this pans out. I’m down for a slow burn, but maybe wait to binge it if you haven’t started the season yet. It goes by quick..

Objectively this show is like a 4-6 with some 7-9 moments sprinkled in. If you have absolutely nothing to do (like me) I recommend watching this series.

In my opinion,
Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4 was a very enjoyable and heartfelt season that showed good improvement in its story and pacing.

The Hawaii arc added a fresh setting that made the characters more expressive and gave the story a new charm.

The animation and direction were consistent, making every romantic and funny moment more meaningful and fun to watch.

Chizuru’s softer side and Kazuya’s efforts to be more serious made their relationship feel more real and emotional.

Overall, this season was touching, entertaining, and full of charm, reminding me why I enjoy the series so much.

So I'll give it a 10/10 rating

Season 4 turned out to be pretty disappointing. Granted, Rent-a-Girlfriend has never been known for its strong writing as people like me follow it for the messy drama, the trainwreck quality, and the faint hope that the author will eventually wrap things up well. But at least earlier seasons had some kind of plot movement or memorable moments. Here, it just feels like the series is stalling, stretching things out in repetitive ways. It’s not exactly boring, but watching each week felt like seeing the same characters recycle the same conversations, waiting for the screentime to end.

The season started with promise, with Kazuya pushing himself ... toward a confession. But as soon as Chizuru pushes back, he collapses into overthinking, and the cycle repeats endlessly. Interactions feel almost copy-pasted from earlier seasons, where lots of dialogue happens but little is actually said. The conversations don’t even sound natural; I’ve lived in Japan, and while people do avoid uncomfortable topics, the way Kazuya speaks to, for example, Kibe just doesn’t ring true. It’s more like the hollow exchanges you’d hear in a pointless corporate meeting.

The resort arc really showed how stale things have become. Yes, Kazuya’s grandmother is old, and we’re supposed to cut her slack, but awkwardly forcing every main cast member into one location was more cringey than clever. The whole setup felt unnatural. Chizuru and Kazuya acting shocked about the Mami situation was laughable, as it’s been foreshadowed for so long that it was inevitable. Ruka got more screen time and a touch of development, but again, nothing we haven’t seen before. Increasingly, the characters talk in cryptic, pseudo-deep ways that don’t feel like how real people behave, which makes the drama feel hollow.

The biggest shame is how much potential was wasted. The season had an incredible opening theme by ClariS, which is full of metaphor and Kazuya’s interpretation of the story, hints of foreshadowing, and strong visual symbolism. It reminded me of how Konosuba season 3’s OP was great, even if the show itself didn’t live up to it. The animation might’ve been a bit rushed, but the thought put into it far outshone the actual episodes.

By the end, watching season 4 left me feeling mostly apathetic. I tuned in each week with very low expectations, and sadly, the show delivered exactly the bare minimum, low-effort content I anticipated. Not the worst thing I’ve seen, but definitely stale.

This season really annoyed me. And what annoys me even more is that this reached 4 seasons and will get a 5th season, instead of us getting a 2nd season for "No Game No Life". Anyway...

Two days ago I decided to fast-forward the first 3 seasons, kind of like a recap, because last time I watched them I didn't like the series enough to make me want to rewatch all of it... or so I thought. I actually fast-forwarded very little, and watched 60-80% of it judging by start/end time that day (hard to tell). I enjoyed it more than I expected (probably an ~8(!)), ... and had high hopes for season 4, but it was not meant to be.

The constant bait-and-switch made me consider dropping it multiple times, and the final episode is the tip of the iceberg. I still haven't "toppled over" as it seems some progress might finally happen, but man... my patience is really running thin. And although I usually don't paying a subscription service to binge all the seasonals (CR costs less than a pizza), this time I didn't and I can confidently say *I'm glad I pirated this*.

Yet again, this season is filled with a barrage of text on the screen. Probably fine for the Japanese-speaking folk and those listening to dubs, but for me watching the subbed versions, it was way too much, and most of it was kinda useless and even disrupting to the flow of the actual conversations. If I really wanted to read so much, I'd pick the manga or LN, but I don't.

Oh Ruka... She was a half-decent character for the first few seasons, all things considered, but she got incredibly annoying this season. Mami is the same, which is fine, I guess. Our boy Kazuya is a bit less trash, and he mustered his courage about 13657214357 times thus far, to try to be less trash than he was, but as I said two paragraphs earlier, he gets to be interrupted and/or denied for nearly everything he tries to do at any given moment by some silly coincidence or gag. It's exactly like those romcoms in the 2000s, but 20 years later. And all other characters are basically absent.

At least the summer season is over and I now have plenty more new trash... uhm... I meant totally-unique-and-top-tier isekai series to watch?

I cannot describe to you how incredibly frustrating this season was (which is the polite way of saying, how much this season pissed me off)... (btw, I marked as no spoilers because I don't describe what specifically happens, I just use generalities... it's nothing you won't already know if you're coming from Season 3... but if hearing whether or not Kazuya finally resolves his entire dilemma is a spoiler then don't read beyond the ------ below. Personally, I don't consider those generic details spoilers).

Season 1 was interesting - 7.5/10 - It introduces the concept, the characters, and the dynamic they find themselves in while being ... entertaining enough.

Season 2 was alright - 7/10 - It fleshed out more of the characters and their backstory, and although it didn't really advance anything, the show was still fresh enough that I could understand continuing to build up their plight and feelings during this season.

Season 3 was actually pretty good - 8/10 - It created a side plot of a "movie project" that Kazuya is working on for Chizuru. And this side plot actually progressed and got resolved... Thank god... because the main plot still went nowhere... It also introduced Yaemori, who's another side character girl but was an absolute breath of fresh air, being the voice of reason and common sense while still being a quirky/funny weirdo streamer gamer girl cosplayer. She's one of the few people who know the whole story while not being caught up in the web of lies, delusion, and simpsationalism herself. Thus, she brings a refreshing 'outside' point of view to both the main characters, voicing to the MCs exactly what you've been screaming at them the entire time yourself. Kazuya drops the ball on his opportunity to connect with Chizuru while she's grieving (hell, he doesn't even hug her while she's clinging on to him crying... he just stands there like a doofus), but I felt like we were getting so close to some real plot progression that I was sure we'd finally get somewhere in Season 4.

Enter Season 4:
In short, this is the most frustrating waste of time I've experienced in an anime in years. Stringing the audience along for 12 episodes without any semblance of a payoff.... It's the same thing every single episode: Kazuya exclaims how utterly smitten he is with Chizuru and how perfect she is, decides he's either going to finally ask her out or confess his lies to his family, gets opportunity to do so, then doesn't (either because he straight wimps out, or because there's some blatantly contrived plot device the author injects to disrupt him at the last second).

------ Generic details below... I don't consider anything a spoiler but if you don't want to know the basics then stop reading here ----
I literally had to force myself to keep watching to the end of the season... thinking "SURELY, by the last episode there will surely be some progression... either Kazuya or Chizuru will finally snap and say what needs to be said..." but NOOOOO, nothing happens AT ALL and we end the season no closer than where we started... My only thought at the end being "why did I even watch? what did I gain out of watching this season?"... Well I'll tell you... I gained -4 hours of my life, AND a load of frustration... Ruka is still annoying, trying to c0ck block the MC's at every turn despite Kazuya blatantly telling her he loves Chizuru and to go away; Mami steps up her game being a manipulative b*tch who seems to have no motive beyond simply tormenting the MCs for fun (basically only existing as a plot device to add tension and drama); Chizuru still can't decide if she likes Kazuya or not (technically she has subconsciously figured out that she likes him but refuses to admit it to herself, or at least refuses to get an answer and resolve the issue); and Kazuya is still a pathetic child that cannot have an adult conversation to save his life. Oh, and the two reasonable characters, Yaemori and Sumi, we basically don't see at all.

The characters are just becoming more and more unrealistic... I'm tired of MC's who spend every waking moment longing for a girlfriend, but then fall over with fear and nose bleeds when the opportunity to talk to a girl arises. It's fine if that happens a few times, but the characters need to grow and overcome their issues for any story to be worth anything.

Or more specifically to this story... Kazuya wants a girlfriend, Kazuya gets a girlfriend (Ruka) who's literally throwing herself at him and saying she'll go 'all the way', then Kazuya has a brain meltdown every time he touches her (or any girl). "Well he doesn't love her, he loves Chizuru..." you say? True, so why the hell is he even with Ruka? It's not like he's using her as a stand-in girlfriend to cover his lies, he doesn't even want people to know she considers him her boyfriend, so there's literally no point in him sticking with Ruka other than him being too much of a wuss to end it and open the path for his actual love... Who would c0ck block themselves like this? Unrealistic. Simply a plot device for melodrama.

I liked this show. Kazuya, Chizuru, the supporting characters, the dilemma they find themselves dealing with... but we're not seeing any progression and it's just becoming unreasonable. Real people would have resolved some of these issues by this point instead of subjecting themselves to a massively stressful and uncomfortable situation. I understand that it's comedy, but at this point it feels like this show is an exercise in dragging the audience along, doing rug-pull after rug-pull, to see how much they can get away with.

Future speculation: I don't know what happens in the Manga, but where they left things at the end of S4 it seems like instead of finally progressing anything in Season 5, they might have Mami blow the whole thing up. That way they can drag the audience along even further and spend Season 5 embroiled in even more melodrama, endlessly foiled attempts to repair the situation, and of course, rug-pulls. But at least that would be progressing the plot.

TLDR;
If you like getting cucked harder than Ruka then you will enjoy this season... Otherwise, if you're expecting the plot to advance in any way, you'll be disappointed.

Rent a GF. Yes as the name suggests it's just renting a girl over and over again, and each and every time our MC keeps on fumbling really bad. I really enjoyed first season, but then with every new season came hope that this show will progress or get a meaning, and always managed to forget it and disappoint us. By the time I was on season 3 I literally begged to end somehow.... At this point it's just a vile and cursed mix of Kazuya's inner dialogue, Fumbling dates and other girls trying to get his attention..... I honestly don't understand how is it ... even possible TO DRAG THIS FOR 5 YEARS?!!

Don't get me wrong, I don't think I could recommend this to anyone I know, but it's just my guilty pleasure.
kanokari is known already for being bad, but this is the worst season so far.
Some moments were so unbearably cringe (ESPECIALLY kazuya bro, he's such a loser) that I had to watch them in 2x which on top of watching the rly bad dub made it very funny.

The only character I actually liked throughout the series is Mami, I mean her main goal is to expose kazuya's ... lies, and I HATEEE HIM so of course I wanna see that happen. So yeah the only thing I liked about s4 was the lots of mami screentime lol
Also her design is the cutest one of all imo! the other girls' designs are so boring (except for sumi, I like her too and this season would've been better with her in it).

Anyway this season did not show any kind of improvement whatsoever, most of the characters and conversations feel awkward and empty.
The art is okay, the music is okay too. The 12 episodes were entertaining I guess, but nothing has rly changed, the plot has not progressed AT ALL.
Kazuya is still the same pathethic gooner. Chizuru is more of a pushover and loser than before. Ruka is still the most fucking annoying bitch on all of anime and I mean that (I do NOT understand how there's ppl that like her, if ruka is in ur favorites get tf away from me). Mami is still a manipulative twofaced girlboss.

Basically what I mean to say is, this show is so bad it makes u laugh. It’s unintentional comedy.
so would I recommend this to you??? well if u have a lot of freetime and like hate-watching cringe stuff then yeah watch it, or use it as background while doing other things, but don't expect anything good. And if you actually value ur time, then go watch something else.

I rarely review any anime I watched, mostly because it is just too troublesome. This anime Rent-a-girlfriend season 1 was funny, season 2 was really great, season 3 took a more serious turn with much more stake on the line really show depth and dedication of Kazuya for his true love, season 4 is feeling like the beginning of something great but unfinished. It is a great story, but that is not why I write this review, I write this review to thanks the author for reminding me how hard it is to really find true love and how fortunate I had been ... and grateful for what I have despite the up and down of life.

I feel connected to this story and the characters, while I do not have their crazy backstories (Thanks God for that!!). However, I been the shy teen that couldn't utter a word and the truly profess my feeling, like the season 1 and 2 Kazuya and Sumi (well pretty much her entire character arc so far, I do hope she will get more development. I was the guy version of her minus the un-godly beauty). I grew up like Kazuya did managed to hang my feeling on my sleave, and developed the courage to profess my love to my dream girl whom is now my wife (my wife in many way was out of my league like Chizuru) strong, kind, smart, and such a hottie. I did more stuff than I could count to try to win her over; and over the many years we been together and having 2 wonderful children made me complacent and forget all of that. As stupid as it sound, this anime reminded me of what true love is all about, how hard it is to find, how I like Kazuya had changed for the better, how we muster up the courage to profess our love to the one we love even though thing could turn out badly for us. Rejection is no fun certainly but to have love and lost is better than to have regret, I learned this lesson just at the right time. This anime reminded me of my love for my wife and how lucky it is to find true love in this life, we went through a tough time recently, but I love her still now more than ever. In my case, my life story turned out wonderfully and it been a blessed 15+ years since I meet my wife. Season 4 ended with a cliff hanger, however I am looking forward to see how the story progress, how Kazuya and Chizuru could end up in that chapel in the end.

I would love to share this anime with my wife which have great art style, but I don't know how she would feel about such a cringe story. However I am looking forward to the conclusion of Rent-a-girlfriend and maybe sharing the entire series with her as she hates broken story.

First of all, just make it a 24 episode season. Who's bright idea was it to make anime seasons 12 episodes?
Just watching the last episode of this season was crazy. Almost half of it was flashbacks to mostly the previous 2-3 episodes. Such a pointless "ending" to the "season".

Second, I know. I'm watching this. I'm as guilty as the rest of them.
It's brainless entertainment at this point.

But the main point I want to make ...

This has 5 seasons now....

... Freakin Nagatoro could be finished in 1 more season... AND HAS much more meaningful development.

Make a 3rd season for Nagatoro

Lastly FUC Mami

Horrible, it simply cannot be described in any other way. This is without a doubt one of the worst aberrations that a supposed romcom can deliver to us, the evolution, the plot, the problems of the characters, everything stagnates in a jiffy and gives us 20 chapters with the same vignettes but with a dialogue even more incipid than the previous one. If you can avoid wasting time on this thing, do it.
The art style is decent and consistent with the previous seasons, but it doesn’t do much to elevate the narrative. While the character designs are attractive and polished, the visuals alone can’t ... make up for the lack of emotional depth or originality in the plot.

When it comes to the characters, they remain one-dimensional and often behave in unrealistic or immature ways. Kazuya’s constant indecisiveness and embarrassing desperation make it hard to sympathize with him, while Chizuru, who was once a strong and interesting female lead, feels underused and emotionally distant this season. The other girls also seem stuck in repetitive personality loops, lacking meaningful growth or nuance. Their reactions to events often feel exaggerated or illogical, breaking any sense of realism the show tries to build.

Overall, unless you’re already deeply invested in this series or just enjoy over-the-top romantic comedies regardless of story quality, Kanojo, Okarishimasu Season 4 is unlikely to impress. Many viewers will probably find it tedious, predictable, and emotionally shallow, despite its clean animation and appealing art style. It’s a disappointing continuation of a series that had potential but refuses to move forward.
