Rekishi ni Nokoru Akujo ni Naru zo

The kind and compassionate heroine of an otome game may be as flawless as she is admirable, but a certain young woman from Japan much prefers the villainess, Alicia Williams. She sees sense in Alicia's ruthless verbal abuse and values her discipline and fortitude. On the other hand, aside from always toying with Prince Duke Seeker's emotions, the commoner heroine seems to only spout lip service.

Given the choice, the young woman would love to be reincarnated as Alicia—and her wish suddenly comes true! Seven-year-old Alicia awakens with the memories of her past life, now aware of all the future events, outcomes, and the world's secrets. She has no fear; to outsmart the heroine and avoid a bad ending, all Alicia needs is hard work, mastery of her noble family's dark magic, and the determination to become the greatest villainess in history.

Definitely a masterpiece of the "Villainess" sub-gender! The highlights of this anime are the dialogues between the main character and her antagonist, the saint. I can't pinpoint a downside of this anime, except for the fast that the last episode was a hook to introduce the second season, and it went really far away from the main story so it was all over the place.

Art and Animation: 8/10.
Characters: 9/10.
Plot: 7/10.
Overall: 8

Alicia is reincarnated as a villainess, but instead of avoiding the bad ending that follows her role, she decides to be "a villainess that goes down in history". She works very hard to be ... a suitable rival to the Saint, which is a stereotyped heroine with strong plot-armor that makes her very overpowered. Everyone loves the saint and hates Alicia, but Alicia doesn't bother about it (she actually likes the attention as it makes her pop out more as a villainess) and goes around doing her own thing.

I felt like this series should have ended within this season, but the last episode is an introduction to a second season that will ONLY carry on Alicia as a character, therefore abandoning all other characters and plot that we had thus far. I hope it will be enjoyable!

Mixed Feelings

This is an isekai-otome-shoujo. Look at me flexing this fancy vocabulary after watching like thirty titles, huh?

So basically, it’s a girl-for-girls kind of story about an isekai’d protagonist who ends up in the alternate reality of a dating sim. I’m not a huge fan of this subgenre—I’ve only seen Villainess Level 99—and while on the surface these titles seem similar (same setting, same starting point for the MC), they’re actually very different.

This anime has plenty of solid dialogue. Most of it wasn’t too painful to sit through (and that’s saying something coming from someone outside the target audience). Sure, there were some blatantly dragged-out or ... straight-up dumb moments, especially when the characters should say something but don’t for no reason, causing unnecessary problems. I see this trope as a lazy slap in the viewer’s face. Thankfully, there weren’t too many of those.

Aside from the dialogue, I want to highlight the independent subplots: the one about the struggling village and the king’s brother. It’s refreshing to see an otome that doesn’t just stick to romantic relationships between young people but delves into deeper philosophical themes—like governance, parent-child dynamics, and more.

The balance between humor and drama was spot on. I especially loved the cute little animated inserts—they fit perfectly and added to the charm.

But, oh boy, that ending to the last episode of season one? It completely ruined the vibe. I’ll say upfront: all the arcs are either fully wrapped up or clearly set up for closure, so I have no idea where a second season would even go. The final scene of the final episode wasn’t a cliffhanger, didn’t hint at a sequel—it was just... nonsense. Absolute trash.

Otherwise, it’s solidly average. The world-building, music, and animation are all fine—nothing amazing, but nothing offensively bad either.

Verdict: if you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll probably enjoy it. That said, if you’ve already binged every variation out there, this one won’t bring anything new to the table. For isekai miners like me? Meh, you can do better. The protagonist and the supporting cast are well-written, though, so if you’re into character development, it might be worth a watch.

premise - 5/10

nothing special, not bad either, you've seen a variation of it countless times in other shows, but it has it's own flair to it that makes it ok

story - 3/10

starts out ok, could even say i had hope for it somewhere in the first episodes, but then quickly devolves into shojo romance with a bland story that goes nowhere and ends without any closure, just setup for a sequel i hope never comes

artstyle and animation - 2/10

the only reason i won't give it a 1 is because i've seen a few shows with worse than this. the animation is so low budget, it's ... inconsistent from scene to scene with characters looking completely different from a different angle, and most of the time it's just still images with just the mouth changing between open and closed, and the rare times there's actual things happening on screen it's badly done as well
i'd comment on the artstyle but there is none

sound design - 5/10

boring and bland, not even noticeable one way or the other

character depth - 2/10

one dimensional characters with preset reactions and opinions you can see coming a mile away

character development - 3/10

barely any, i'd say a side character with like 10 minutes of screen time got the most character development, everyone else is just the same as when the show started except for some unimportant changes

voice acting (jap) - 4/10

the main character is average but not bad, but the rest of the cast is quite poor performers, with one character who's (arguably intentional) annoying voice made me wanna drop the show every time they spoke, if it wasn't for the main character's voice actor performance, this score would be a 2/10

a low budget, bland show with an uninspired story that goes nowhere, but hey, at least the main character is pretty? i honestly don't know how i managed to finish it, and now that i did, i regret not dropping it earlier
