Ojou to Banken-kun

When Isaku Senagaki was five years old, the death of her parents left her to be raised by her yakuza boss grandfather, Tasuke. Now preparing to enter high school, Isaku is determined to start fresh with an honest attempt at having a normal high school experience. All she wants is to be able to make friends and find love without being defined by her connection to the yakuza.

But Isaku's dreams are thwarted when her overprotective caretaker, 26-year-old Keiya Utou, takes it upon himself to enroll in Isaku's school by bribing the school administration. While Isaku yearns for a reciprocated love, she is trapped in a one-sided infatuation with Keiya, who only sees her as the boss's granddaughter he helped raise. Her longing for a normal life becomes a constant battle, and breaking free from her heart's grip is far more challenging than it sounds, as Keiya's overprotectiveness and disregard for her boundaries make it almost impossible to move on.

This anime has an interesting mix of school romance, age difference, and yakuza. With all that this implies, we have main characters who couldn't be more different from each other, facing typical yakuza mafia situations combined with a romance that is inappropriate for many (it brings back memories of Koikimo and Higehiro)

The animation sometimes looks like PNGs, but most of the time it retains that cute drawing style. The music blends well with the scenes, there is a good atmosphere, and the character development leaves some room for improvement. In some parts, it becomes boring or exasperating due to the attitudes of the protagonists, but ... in the end, it manages to convey the message of the story.

Mixed Feelings

I randomly discovered this anime on Netflix while browsing and ended up watching it straight through until the end. The story is light, easy to follow, and surprisingly quick to hook you in. It has a cute and relaxed tone, with subtle romantic moments that add just enough kilig to keep things interesting. I appreciated that it didn’t try too hard to be deep or overly dramatic—it knows what kind of story it wants to tell and sticks to it.

That said, the animation quality is noticeably weak and can be distracting at times. Visually, it doesn’t stand out, and some scenes feel a bit stiff. ... Still, I found myself enjoying the experience overall. The chemistry between the characters and the small romantic hints were charming enough to carry the show. It’s not anything extraordinary, but it’s a pleasant, feel-good watch if you’re looking for something light and uncomplicated.

First off, DO NOT. I REPEAT. DO NOT go into this anime blind. it actually killed me so bad. the animation team wasnt even trying. the animation was so bad that half the time the characters looked like the pedialyte kid or their mouth wasnt even moving when they were talking and moving when they werent talking. the stay wouldve been good if this wasnt so 1) SO GOONER and 2) THE AGE GAP. like, did the mangaka really have to make them have a 10 year age gap and make the ml a horny pedophile who groomed a girl since she was 5. every ... second i watched this was my face scowling cus i was cringing so bad. i was in physical pain. i only watched the full thing bc i honestly hate dropping animes, especially if theyre really short. anyways, dont watch it yawl unless you really wanna be a lame desperate gooner who has a thing for pedophiles ig 🤷‍♀️
