Story (3/10) - poor

"Denpa-Teki Na Kanojo" is about crazy girls, crazy girls that don't make any sense.

Obviously, the main reason for their poor development is the small number of episodes. But, if they made a movie instead of an OVA, maybe they could develop something more believable. If you decide to add reason behind a Yandere character's actions, at least make them sound somewhat believable, otherwise just stick to their pure craziness and don't try to create empathy for those characters.

The psycho-girls in this Anime, as I already said, make no sense. They're focusing too much on shocking and graphic scenes - obviously, ... the only way to portray a messed up characters - and then, from nowhere, they begin to show how those psychos actually victims while sticking to the shock factors that make absolutely no sense.

Art (6/10) - Fair

Some characters look okay, some worse. I personally don't like the eyes art-style, it makes some characters look bad.

Sound (5/10) - Mediocre

I assume it's a low-budget Anime, so there's no OP and the sounds are generic.

Characters (4/10) - Decent

I pretty much summarized everything while reviewing the story. The only thing I can add is that the characters had a potential, it feels like they could be interesting characters if they were developed correctly.

Nothing interesting, yet not too boring - good to kill time.

Maybe instead of misleading people with the title they actually should have made a sci-fi.

The synopsis made it seem like this will be another fantasy where the main character will reattain his past life memories in the end but that is totally wrong. Anime cannot get more real than this when comparing it to reality.

The story revolves around Juuzawa Juu, a notorious delinquent at his school. Then suddenly out of the blue, a quiet girl calls Juu out and tells him that he was a king in his previous life and she was his faithful knight.

As the story progresses a scene is shown at the end of the first episode in the OVA, indicating a memory of Juu when ... he was a kid. In this memory, Juu was probably in grade school. He seems to be all beaten up like he had just got out of a fight. Juu saw a girl crying in a park. Juu approaches her and pat her on the head as a sign to comfort her. He then sat next to her and pulled out a toy that is dress as a king. This strongly indicated that Ame's memories of this "Past Life" must have been caused by Juu himself when he was a boy.

If you're new comers to mystery, thriller genre anime than this for you, but for others:

The story has a dark tone where high school students were wannabe detectives and solve school mystery/conflict, result of corny characters act way too predictable. Share similarities of main characters' personality and plots within the same genre, not unique but an complication of borrowed interesting ideas/plot from other shows with a bit twist to fool narrow minded reviewers as being fresh.

The visual is good, but the confrontation between characters is way dramatic for detective drama, it is retarted.

tl;dr: A couple of decent enough mysteries, but a really underdeveloped cast of characters.

This is a pair of two OVAs based on a three volume novel series of the same name. It only adopts two of it’s volumes however, with the first OVA adapting the first volume and the second OVA mainly adapting the third with some minor stuff taken from the second. As one would expect, since each OVA is only 42 minutes and it straight up skips adapting the second volume, that the adaptation has to diverge considerably from the novels with major cuts to the story and a lot of restructuring of ... events.

Each OVA involves a mystery with a psychological horror vibe being dealt with by the two main characters, Juu and Ame. As the title of the series suggests, there is some degree of denpa to it as well, though unlike the title suggests its rooted in the antagonists rather than the heroine. The heroine leans more towards just being a pretty standard chuuni. Each of the mysteries aren’t amazing, but they’re decent enough and they’re written competently enough that they flow reasonably well and have a good sense of atmosphere. Each explores simple themes, the first around the desire to not be pitiful and the second around the desire to obtain happiness, and though this exploration isn’t all that deep and doesn’t really do anything particularly novel, it feels like it hits some good notes and gets in some good lines on the topics.

Ultimately, the biggest problem is that it doesn’t really feel anywhere near a complete story. Each mystery gets resolved pretty resolutely, but in terms of characters it’s significantly lacking. The background on the main duo is severely lacking and thus they don’t feel properly fleshed out. They’re certainly still cool, but their motivations and thought processes aren’t explained properly and thus it’s hard to fully get invested in them. The dynamic between the main characters is interesting and you can kind of see some relationship development beginning, however only just barely. Very little development actually occurs. The word 彼女 in the title seems to generally be translated as ‘girlfriend’, but as least in terms of how things are portrayed in the OVA, I would translate it as simply ‘girl’ as things don’t get anywhere near that point. It also introduces some side characters that could be interesting if used properly, but it never really gets a chance to do much with them. The cast thus feels pretty hollow and the series as a whole feels kind of incomplete and like it’s missing essential elements.

The art and animation are decent enough. The quality of either isn’t amazing per se, but the story boarding and general framing was pretty good and in general worked really well for the tone it was trying to establish. The soundtrack was decent enough but not particularly memorable. There aren’t OPs, and the EDs also had decent enough songs though the visuals were just text on a single color background.

In general, it's an edgy anime. It has a high school setting and plot, the only difference being that it has psychotic and edgy teenagers. I've not seen School Days (and I swear I never will, no matter what), but I've seen the ending of School Days, and I can say that if you take the edginess of the ending of School Days, and made it into two 40 min episodes, you'll get Electromagnetic Girlfriend. The only reason I personally gave it an 8 is because the first episode was legitimately good. The second episode was trash and edgy. Why have I mentioned the word ... "edgy" multiple times? To emphasize how edgy it actually is. I don't want to invalidate others' opinions, but whoever said that it has a dark atmosphere to it, they're totally wrong and I've seen better anime with a more eerie atmosphere. I'd say that this anime is more like a guilty pleasure than an actual good show.
