This is technically a calming slice of life type action fantasy anime.
The character and surrounding people are developed well. There are fights at intervals.
The concept is familiar yet unique.
The screenplay has some depth and it keeps you interested.
Watch it when you want a chill anime.

Adventuring and its risks are well explained.
One good part - No extremely annoying character which has now become a common trait.
This makes the anime so peaceful.

... This is a good anime. Neither great nor bad. Just enough to make you enjoy but neither adrenaline raising nor trashy nor slow.

Unwanted Undead Adventurer is a role model of an anime "playing on the safe side". There was absolutely nothing unpleasant or controversial - the anime just focused on telling the story of a nice guy (and nice people around him). The risk, of course, is that the anime may come across as boring or forgettable for some viewers. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an easy-to-watch and relaxing adventure anime, but not to those who want an adrenaline-filled experience.

This is a distinct adventure anime compared to other light novel adaptions.

Right from ep.1, main character Rentt’s made extensive ... amount of inner monologues - he was basically a narrator who directly explains things. It felt like a lazy narrative device initially, but created the feeling of reading a novel once the audience got used to it. In addition, after other characters gradually enter the story, the amount of monologue and dialogue became more balanced.

How does it feel to become an undead (or skeleton)? It’d be quite challenging for the audience to imagine, and _Overlord_(2015) didn't explain it to us lol. The staff seemed to recognize this as well, and intentionally added interesting scenes for viewers to “feel” it. For example, they showed the blurry and colorless world from Rentt’s perspective during his first fight with another skeleton, effectively conveying the initial struggles Rentt had to face after the transform.

My favorite aspect of this anime is Rentt’s personality - diligent, persevering, calm. The audience wouldn’t be surprised by his survival and growth; all his actions were logical and coherent. So far I’ve never experienced a "what the heck?!" moment yet. I'd appreciate that the author was treating the readers as people with normal intelligence. (Given there are so many light novel authors who don’t...)

Up to ep.3, it feels to be a solid and engaging anime that’s worth watching.

Coming from the light novel, the Unwanted Undead Adventurer anime is more or less what I expected – a slow, deliberately paced story with plenty of time for the main character’s thoughts. I may be a bit biased (the LN is one of my favorites, after all), but so far I’ve been enjoying the anime.

While I don’t think the story’s natural pacing makes it well suited for an anime adaptation, they have changed a few details to make events progress smoother and quicker. And so far I feel that has worked out quite well. I know that people who are familiar with the source material ... of an anime like to criticize adaptations, but so far I have no real complaints in that regard. It’s faithful enough.

Rentt and Lorraine’s personalities have been kept intact quite well and I look forward to seeing more characters pop up. Character interactions in general have been good so far and I expect more of the same from the rest of the season.

The visuals are decent with plenty of high-quality background shots. I can’t say I am a big fan of the 3DCGI, but frankly I’ve seen much worse. It’s about as good as I could hope for. Background music and voice acting seem to be on par. I was surprised by Lorraine’s voice, but she sounds about as mature as expected.

If you enjoy getting to know a world/universe at a slower pace, are fond of cautious main characters and appreciate a gentler pace in your series, Unwanted Undead Adventurer might be a series for you. If they keep following the light novel faithfully, the series will only get better and better with each episode. I look forward to episode 4 and beyond.

Story & Plot: 7/10
The story is arguably slow, the first few episode was amazing where the story developed, while in the middle it starts to falter and continue with what feels like fillers episode with minimal to no developement in the plot. some episode felt really dragged out. depsite all this the story that is trying to discover the theme of humanity in a setting where you are reincarnated as a monster is really refreshing, it strays far away from your normal undead isekai/fantasy show where they just dont bother addressing this part. i just hope if this has a chance for season 2 it ... will develope the plot a little bit more and maybe move the pacing up alittle bit.

World Building: 6/10
Not much to say about the world and settings. not much was revealed aside from your usual isekai/fantasy, but i can see glimpse of hope that it will be an interesting world.

Characters: 9/10
this is the main selling point for this anime, very rarely does your isekai disguised as fantasy have solid points on this one. the main character felt genuine and the kind of guy you would root for, he is the underdog who has given all of his effort to achieve his dreams, he is smart, kind and bad with women but despite all this he was limited by his human body. Finally after breaking his limitation of his human body, now he has the dilemma with his humanty, does being revived as a monster make him stop being a human. Does any of that matters now that he have the power to achieve his dreams.

moving on to the side characters, so far the side characters are very much solid too, some are pretty cliche but the chemistry the mc have with all the side characters are great.

Art: 6/10
The art are okay, there isnt too much to talk about. The quality did drop after a few episode but thats understandable from something that dont have much budget to start with.

Animation: 6/10
the animation it started with was good, but just like the art, the animation quality starts to drop with every new episodes.

Opening & Ending: 8/10
The ending really suits the overall theme of this shows, every time i hear the guitar intro it just soothe my souls and then the chorus kicks in and i ended up listening to the whole song. The opening is also very good, but it dont really capture me as much as the ending song.

Sound effect & Musical score: 5/10
Im not an expert when it comes to this, usually i dont pay much attention to musical score since they are usually too quite to listen to using a speaker. Sound effect & musical score has the ability to heighten up important moments and you can feel these stuff when it trully matters and i can say that at most time i couldnt feel the sound effect or the musical score.

Enjoyability: 7/10
Well despite the slow story this is quite enjoyable, mainly the interections between the characters are good enough to keep you watching. there isnt a lot of action so if you are the type who couldnt watch a video without subway surfer to keep your attention this is not for you. this is more of a human drama than your usually isekai power fantasy.

The show's pretty rock solid. It sorta gives off "We have Frieren at home" vibes. It's a degree of quality higher than the typical seasonal production, and each episode is good. It's a traditional adventure story rather than an action or comedy, with the character growing over time. He's very likable and it's easy to care about his progress and goals. There is an actual story being told, which is more than welcome in the realm of crystallized isekai worlds. Additionally, it feels like the characters were written for adults. They behave maturely and don't act like complete morons, which is a breath of fresh ... air.
My biggest complaint would be that we don't feel the consequences of his undead nature severely enough. Despite the excellent premise, you can get a few minutes into an episode and forget that he is an abomination. As soon as a problem is faced it gets trivialized almost immediately. It would have made the narrative about his nature more effective if they more deeply showed the struggles of being undead. The action scenes also felt a little lifeless. If the show's focus was action, I would take this complaint into more serious consideration. Either way, don't expect too much blood pumping excitement.
Overall the show feels like listening to sports on the radio out of your back porch on a sunny day. It is really comforting and relaxing, to the point some people might find get bored. If you enjoy slower paced shows and watch anime to relax, I highly recommend it.

This shows started cool but quickly went down hill.
It is just : "Side quest, the anime" without any actual character development.

Our mc is a good guy so by doing these side quests he shows he is a good guy.
But wait !
With the next side quests, he shows yet again that he is a good guy.
Oh right and he is very overpowered but also modest to boot.

They completely forgot the fact that he has to sneak around because he is a monster.
Or completely forgot about the girl that buys him clothes in epi 1-2.
...
I constantly try to figure out, what is the point of this show?

If it was a show where he constantly evolved, gained skills, and show neat ways to use them or how they come in handy, that would be great.
But besides the fact that he can use 3 glowie powers combined into a MEGA GLOW ATTACK , I failed to see anything else that's note while.

Maybe develop the world and how he used to interact with it and now how it is when he is actually a monster that craves human blood.
They had that intent but quickly resolved it and moved on.
Apparently he only needs 1 drop of blood, so just a flash would last him 1 year or so.

At one point i paused and episode and forgot about it, after I went and started the next episode, i realized only later on that i skipped half of the previous episode. BCS IT IS NOT RELEVANT at all..

Overall rating 5 - Huge disappointment

As a fan of the light novel (and a bit of a stickler on odd details) I can say that this series is a good watch.

It's a slow paced, well built story that focuses a lot on the journey of the main character - Rentt Faina - as he figures out the whole undead thing. It still has a bit of a game-ish aspect to it with the idea of him killing monsters to make himself more powerful, but this, at least, is handled better than a good number of other series.

And without delving too deeply into spoilers, I think it presents it's big, ... world spanning mystery pretty well. It establishes that there are a lot of unknowns, and that there's plenty to be explored in the world - which is a good thing for a series like this.

To make a lot of boring meandering and rambling on my part short, it's a solid fantasy anime that does a good job establishing and building it's world.

The one con I can mention is that the series can feel really slow at times. All it really means is that it doesn't have the highest highs, but focuses really intently on the main character.

Having finished the anime now, I wanted to add a few notes. there are several elements that are either cut for the sake of pacing, or taken out of order for the sake of character development. There are technically elements that shouldnt even be in this season because they're featured in other arcs. This gives me the unfortunate sense that they aren't likely to do a second season

Great premise and huge potential for a great story that quickly turns into garbage writing and kids show. 
It had a good base recipe for an interesting story: 
A good,hardworking, likeable adventurer who, despite all of his effort, cannot move past the limitations of his body.  gets killed and finds himself to become a monster while retaining seemingly intact consciousness, personality, and memories. All while having a mad scolar/mage/love interest who is willing to hide and help him stay human on the inside.

It had no isekai BS, no harem. No stupid, silly jokes, and good art to boot. 

It explores the themes of : The meaning of humanity, ... Struggle with his growing monster urges, Getting stronger, and overcoming the limitations of his human past self, Exploring fantasy world full of guilds, dungeons, monsters, kingdoms etc.

I watched up to ep 4 after which I went to read the Light Novel since usually it is better and provides more details and a better story since anime adaptations tend to change things to fit the anime format. So I know the full story in advance. 

After episode 4, the quality takes a nosedive, and it only gets worse from there. Remember the premise and all the major themes the show explores in the beginning? When you can forget it.
The show becomes extremely silly.
All the mature content gets removed. And by mature, I do not just mean blood, death, or sex.
I mean anything that an adult can enjoy. Complex and engaging story with twists and interesting and realistic human behavior. Good writing in general. 
All the philosophical, moral, and dark parts just cease to exist. The author will mention them  but will never actually show them. 
The story becomes a collection of filler episodes and scenes that push the same things over and over without showing us any new perspective on things or character development of any kind. 

The number of silly and stupid things in the later part is insane. It completely abandons the initial themes and turns into the adventures of your friendly neighbor, Spider-Man, I mean, vampire adventurer. Every Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fox Kids!

I really enjoyed this show, but it's worth noting going in that it's not got a set plot, to speak of. It's more of a slice of life with earnest storytelling, well told. As I say I enjoyed it for what it was but if you need a set plot and arc this probably isn't for you.

For what it's worth the characters are excellent and well rounded, though the show centrally revolves around the protagonist and his adventures/internal dialogue.

This is a serious show with good writing and storytelling that kept me absorbed. I appreciated the slice-of-life drama style too.

THIS IS WHAT I CALL A GOOD ISEKAI. The plot may not seem to out of the ordinary but damn it feels good to watch isekais that actually aren’t just brain rot, harem shit. All the characters are likeable and the main character isn’t obnoxious. This is the kind of isekai that makes it possible for me to not write off the whole genre.
The art is generic not the highest quality but that’s fine cause it’s not trying to take itself that serious. It’s just a chill isekai about some actual decent dude getting turned into a mob which makes him evolve and shit. Nothing ... crazy the blonde haired woman is waifu material if that’s even a term ppl use anymore.

EDIT: YALL BETTER GASS THIS UP CAUSE I DONT WANT THIS TO BE ONE OF THOSE ANIMES WITH ONLY ONE SZN

Nothing much to say, so I'll keep it short.
Being the bottom dwelling fantasy enjoyer that I am, I saw potential in the first few eps, the hook was great and it established the world and the plot pretty well, but it's just downhill from there.

The entire anime feels like multiple filler arcs stitched together. If you're here for some story and world building, you will probably be disappointed. The arcs feel weightless and disconnected, the MC is uninteresting and static, the world feels boring and shallow, despite so many locations and characters. I forgot this anime was airing at some point.

It's not a bad ... anime by any means, the MC is a down to earth, mature, chill dude, which is refreshing, and I think most of my issues with this anime can be fixed with a 2nd season. The animation is good, but the combat feels a bit bland, and the show has a chill vibe to it, but to me, its just not interesting, other than the base premise, it feels like every other uninspired fantasy flick. I'd say give it a try if you're into fantasy and have nothing better to watch.

I’ll keep this short:

The best part of the this show is the first four episodes. It’s actually pretty interesting, the art is well done, and there’s some creative concepts that haven’t really been touched by any other fantasy.

After that though, it becomes insanely boring and filler. You can’t have a show where the premise is based on a unique set of circumstances that the MC has to deal with then completely dissolve any tensions or plot elements around them by the fourth episode. Every single episode after this point becomes the most generic and more importantly boring Isekai slop.

Enjoy the first four or five episodes ... then drop this.

There is no better word to describe this anime than: Average.

After watching all its chapters, I wouldn't say that it has good things to highlight, but I can't say that it has bad things to point out either. The work fulfills the purpose of entertaining, but does not seek to go further or win your affection. The story points out the theme of "existential evolution" as a phenomenon to which we must pay attention, but after a few chapters even the anime itself forgets. He decides to skip evolution and instead focus on the protagonist's capabilities.

Rent Faina has no charisma at all. He has experience ... as an adventurer and that's it. You can hardly find anything that is interesting about his story, but you can't judge it either because it is such a normal story that it avoids being bad. No matter how much you try to search, the best number that suits you on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 5.

The only thing where the anime really stands out is with its ending, both the song and the visuals are beautiful. "Keep your fire burning" is a song that I will definitely miss hearing every week.

In conclusion, even if you have nothing to watch, I would hardly consider it an option. I feel you would be better off exploring other options. This anime is for when you are really bored and in the abyss of fantasy. If it doesn't stand out in the season, it won't stand out within the genre. Even so, if you decide to watch it, you may come to like it in some way or another, it's the magic of being average.

Unwanted Undead is a very solid fantasy adventure that leans more into the adventuring slice of life, rather than any epic storylines. It does what it set out to do rather well and is enjoyable through-out.

The art is clean and detailed, and animations decent. The show does seem to have moments where they've decided against including scenes completely rather than spend effort trying to animate them. As such there aren't any spectacular battle scenes, though what we get is good enough.

Unwanted Undead lacks any ambitious grand storylines, instead focusing on daily adventures and keeping its story more self contained in each episode.

The core of the story is about a fairly unskilled adventurer that meets an untimely end after making a mistake in a dungeon. Curiously, they awaken as an undead monster with all their memories and personality intact.

This leads to the main story of the adventurer trying to return to civilization through attempting to evolve as a monster and become more human like. This of course involves plenty of dungeon adventuring, but also dealing with the everyday aspects relating to it.

Concepts like these have been done in the past, but this show has its own twist on the idea, and I find it to be quite well executed. It sets up the perfect circumstance to have us deal with adventuring in every episode and everything that's related to it, as our protagonist is essentially locked into the activity.


Characters - 8/10

The cast is fairly limited, but those characters that exist are well done.

The protagonist is a refreshing character, who embodies many of the traditional traits of good guys, yet isn't overbearing, instead being more rational and intelligent.

He is a good guy to the bone, but he also understands practicality. He'll expect rewards for helping someone, and won't turn down any gifts if offered. At the same time, he's not above helping others for free, if it provides other types of value such as good connections, or a boost to his reputation. A good guy, but practical.

He's also quite intelligent and despite his limitations, quite competent with the power he does have.

Other characters are much less developed, but have just enough depth as to not feel out of place when they do get screen time. The most common one being a long time friend that continues to help him. We get some backstory and their personality is more fleshed out, but the focus remains on our Protagonist for most of the show. Which is for the best.

Unwanted Undead is above average in the fantasy adventure genre. Its production values aren't spectacular, but good enough as to not detract from the experience. The story and characters more down to earth, creating a comfortable slice of life themed adventure.

Would recommend to any fans of the genre.

Why 8? Because I rate on how much I've enjoyed something, not as an objective or comparative score.

The premise is straight forward and smells like slop, meaning a cynically pumped out show with little to no variation.
I can't claim that it meaningfully deviates from formulaic isekai-like generic fantasies, because it relies on too many tropes and never feels like a full throated production that people put their passion into, it looks fine, the acting is fine, the music is fine and while none of it is special, it also never disappoints.

It's a very decent story that has an appreciably slow pace without dragging things ... out or getting stuck in exposition. The people behind it may not have given it their all, but they did care about making this.

The premise is simple, you take your average fantasy world with a guild system and adventurers in it and resurrect the main character from being a middle-of-the-road adventurer who never got anywhere as age starts to creep up on him, to getting eaten by an impressive looking monster, inside of a labyrinth, and dying.
Whether he's spit out or comes out the other end, the end result is the same, all that's left of him are bones. And he's still alive, as a 'monster'.

The dilemma is that he can't just go outside the labyrinth or he'll be slain by adventurers or guards. The hook, however, is that he is now stronger than he used to be and experiences a natural talent for combat and physical activities that he didn't possess before.
What's more is that when he slays monsters he rapidly becomes stronger and even evolves (basically getting XP and leveling up).
This is important because his dream is to become a 'Mithril ranked adventurer' and finally sees a shot at progressing towards it.

Our main character is mild mannered, pragmatic, kind and principled, he's well liked and people think of and care about him.
It's also refreshing that he thinks about things like an adult and isn't a screaming and hot headed shounen protagonist.
While the story quickly solves his issue of appearance, it just as quickly deviates from that as the active plot, however it does keep it in mind to some degree as he's forced to interact with others in order to be an adventurer, even if he's solo.

The reason I enjoy it so much is that most of the time it feels like an actual adventure and that his relations to others feel largely natural. He has a close friend whom he can discuss his situation with and talk and think about how to deal with his situation and what he actually wants to do.

Not a show I actively look forward to, but I'm happy every time I see it has an episode added to it.

This anime might be one of the greatest dark horses of the year, it is a incredible fantasy the likes of which i havent seen since danmachi, and arguably even better than it. If you like all things fantasy, this is for you.

Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha follows the story of rennt and his journey to become a mythril class adventure. If youve already read the synopsis though you already know this of course, however where this show excels is the fact that it is ACTUALLY dedicated to following that goal. where many isekai and adventure shows will put that goal to the side, in ... this it is right front and center! no useless harms that you dont care about, just pure adventure and growth from a compelling main character and a strong supporting cast.

If you like to see a character grow and actually fulfill his dream, aswell as great action and satisfying lore, watch this anime!

This anime was so relaxing to watch. I've been searching for a fantasy like that for a long time.
It is slow, calming and comforting. There isn't really any plot twists or huge exciting fights.
It's just about the characters working, progressing and living in general. But not in a boring, monotone way. Somehow it manages to make it interesting and worth to watch.

I adored Rentt and Lorraine's dynamic. At first I was really scared it's gonna take a dark turn and become a harem anime, but it didn't and I'm so unbelievably greatful for that. Their relationship feels so mature and respectful and I'm ... absolutely here for it. It feels refreshing after watching loads of other animes with childish protagonists having childish interactions about boobs or smth all the time.

Also nothing crazy happens in the plot. I can tell that much without spoilering anything, everything is gonna be the way you're expecting it to be. Which isn't neccessarily a bad thing. I'ts even kinda satisfying to watch because you can turn your brain off for a while and just enjoy the little people's little interactions on your screen.

If you're looking for a fantasy full of action and fight scenes, this is not your anime. But it's cute, it's relaxing and just gives me so much serotonin lmao

It's quite rare for me to leave a review for anime. (My first time I think) This show is almost similar to isekai shows but I think this will have an interesting storyline. The characters were interesting and enjoyable to watch.
The art style is great and the animation is well made.
This show has been great so far, the story is great and I don't feel bored out when watching it.
Definitely would recommend this show to someone who likes adventuring type anime. It's quite typical but the fact that the MC is an undead is really interesting.
Looking forward to see the story progression.

A veteran Bronze-ranked adventurer with a dream of becoming a Mythril-ranked adventurer discovers a new section in a well-known dungeon and decides to explore it alone. There he finds a creature that defies logic and reason, and is ultimately killed by it... or so it would seem, but as this adventurer's luck would have it, he survives the encounter and becomes an undead skeleton with his mind intact.

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer is an action/fantasy that bears a close thematic resemblance to isekai, as the protagonist must engage in a bit of identity fraud in order to return to civilization and not be ousted by those ... who knew him for becoming undead. The leading characters are likable and have good chemistry, which should come as no surprise as one of them is something of an alchemist. The main character himself is introduced as being lively and kind, but becomes stoic, mysterious, and kind as the show progresses. The show maintains a relatively peaceful tone as everything continues to work itself out in favor of the protagonist being able to go about his day-to-day as he usually does.

The animation is decent, though perhaps the series is a case of being front-loaded, as most of the really interesting scenes occur early-on. The action is fine, serviceable - certainly not over-the-top or overly involved, but shows what it needs to well enough. The writing is similarly fine; the story focuses on the main character and his own progression, leaving a lot of interactions and supporting characters in the dust as he continues to try and reach his goal of becoming a Mythril adventurer. This means a lot of the characters he encounters are effectively one-offs in terms of screentime; however, the recurring supporting cast is well-written and does help to establish the main character's place in the setting, particularly how well-thought of he was prior to "dying". The pacing of the series is good, which makes it easy to watch.

The anime does not deliver on its promise of the adventurer being 'unwanted'. In fact, it is just the opposite: everywhere the protagonist goes people end up taking a liking to him, despite his imposing appearance, as he continues to work in earnest to solve the problems of commonfolk, guild quests, and decadently wealthy (if not slightly questionable) sponsors. He is most certainly wanted, despite being undead.

Overall, it is a solid action/fantasy that is leaning towards a mature audience. It does what it is supposed to do well enough. I can recommend the anime to anyone seeking action, adventure, and fantasy.

Boring!
Once again as it's common with this season it's starts off with an interesting and exciting concept, adventurer turned undead, can evolve by killing other monsters. That's quickly dropped after a couple of episodes, they then just focus on talking... Talking a d more talking. To summarize one episode, they start talking about the quest or introducing it for about 3-4 minutes, then they move on to the girls house to because she got to be updated on the upcoming quests, they talk again for minutes, then they head over to the village where once again he gets to talk to the people about ... the quest... The actual quests happens, 3 seconds of action, quest over and boring talk for another four minutes. Episode over. I think they run out of budget and are stretching 5 episodes into 12, because I'm 9 episodes in, there is 3 left and this season hasn't gone anywhere yet.
