Synopsis

An unnamed girl appears in a school. She traverses through a cyberpunk version of the town of Sasebo, collecting lanterns while being pursued by an ominous figure.

Background

"URVAN" is set in Sasebo City, which was produced by Toei Animation's new IP research and development team "PEROs" with the cooperation of Nagasaki International University. By utilizing remote location scouting and the latest communication tools, it is a work that challenged the production of animation during the Corona pandemic, creating a new charm of the area without going to Sasebo, which was the stage.

"URVAN" is said to be the etymology of "Obon," that is, "Urabone".
It refers to the ancient Avestan word "Ulvane (soul)" around the 7th century BC.

Then the first ninja turns into a giant lantern and the second one burns.

Now like the other guy said, the sound is pretty great. However, the animation was just fine. I would say something that belonged around 5 years ago. The visual backdrops were stunning, but the animation felt somewhat choppy for something that's supposed to show off animation skills. I think Toei should stick to their strengths.

Overall, you can just watch ...

Ninja parkour girl flips through a hologram city, followed by a ninja stalker parkour guy who undoes all of the holograms by running through them. Ninja parkour girl collects lights then releases them on the ocean. Ninja parkour girl turns into a ball of light. Ninja stalker guy spontaneously combusts. The End.

No dialogue, no plot, no sense. Apparently, this is supposed to be a display of animation skill from Toei and Nagasaki University, but...the animation isn't even all that good. It looks dated, like it was made 10 years ago. If you're going to do an animation showcase, the animation should at ...
