It's really sad to have one of my favorite anime of all time (psycho pass season 1) end up like this. The first few episodes set up some interesting things but the series quickly goes to shit. Season 3 is convoluted and messy because it spreads itself out much too thin by constantly introducing new characters that have flimsy connections to the main story. It doesn't present the interesting themes that made the original so good nor does it bring any new themes to the table, except for touching on the treatment of immigrants and even that's weakly developed. The story is also ... very frustrating to watch at times because a system whose supposed goal is absolute utilitarianism is awfully bogged down in bureaucracy. In the first season, what's perceived as initial bureaucracy turns out to be just the Sibyl system protecting itself and trying to perfectly manipulate all the other characters, but in season 3, its just a plot device to hamper the main characters. Also crime coefficient at this point doesn't even need to exist because nothing in the story builds off that plot device. So other than some returning characters and existing in the same universe, it basically shares nothing with previous entries. And that's fine except its bad as a standalone piece as well.

Characters: 4
The two main characters are likable and have a mysterious backstory but the rest of characters are really quite boring. All the enforcers this time around have no standout or interesting personalities or backstories. The villains are comically bad and constantly say things that scream , "I'm evil" with no subtlety. It's just really lazy and a shortcut to making actually interesting and realistic antagonists.

The Animation is not consistent but not bad either, the sound track is pretty meh and the background art is just the same as all the other psycho passes.

I think there's value in making spin off stories that don't add anything thematically or story wise, because its good fun for fans of the series (Sinners of the System movies), but when you're not building off of pieces that have been proven to work to appeal to fans, shouldn't you at least bring some new themes and ideas to the table? At least the movies showed what the world outside of Japan was like and that kept it interesting to some degree. But Season 3? It's just a poorly done detective story that happens to take place in the same universe as previous seasons. The story is more confusing than interesting and the characters are boring and unoriginal. It's less entertaining than the Sinners of the System movies so if you just wanna watch more psycho pass stuff just go watch that. Season 3 sorely disappointed me and if you're a fan of psycho pass it'll disappoint you too.

Awfully unbalanced, to say the least. This installment could have gone in so many better directions, yet we´ve ended up with a shallow follow-up that only echoes back the days of Psycho-Pass' greatness when the characters from the old set-up show up.
There is no suspense as it gets lost in the pile of dialogues that introduce loads of plots that don't get to be properly developed anyway. There's no emotional connection to the characters growing as they're given no importance, contrasted with background global affairs that are supposed to be the main plot. And then, when all the pieces of the puzzle come together (around ... 7th episode) we don't feel invested nor moved whatsoever, feeling that we didn't get to know them at all, neither do we care about the fate of the world depicted in the series. The only likable character here is Kei, who gets only slightly better treatment from the writer than the rest of the cast.
Other than that, it's just boring and long-winded. The only things that keep it all in place are, of course, Kanno's music and outstanding animation. But they won't make up for the mistreated textual layer. Well, unfortunately that's exactly what happens when you get caught up in the grandeur of politics, global affairs and masterminds. I suppose it was bound to happen at some point...

It's a supbar Psycho-Pass fanfic, but an awful Psycho-Pass continuation. Just like many fanfics this one creates a conflic out of nowhere and tries to fill plot holes with concepts and terms that never were a thing before. For some reason there are "blind zones" in Japan where Sibyl system doesn't work - and this shit alone is enough to make me scratch my head and question how in the world a plot of Psycho-Pass 1 and Psycho-Pass 2 could happen if territories like this existed. Also, the original premise of the setting is a total dictatorship of Sybil, but Psycho-Pass 3 throws all ... estabilished rules in garbage can. Enforcers can attack Inspectors. Politics is important. The hues of people don't mean a lot anymore because anyone can free their loved ones if they have right connections. Dominators are just fancy "vibe check" devices.

Honestly, I feel like Psycho-Pass 3 could be just an original show. Alas, even as original it's a mess. The plot is hard to follow and introduces so many characters at once without giving us any hints about they goals, personalities or anything. The main character Arata is basically a mary sue who wields so many unique abilities that once again I can't stop thinking about fanfiction quality of this season. Inspector Ignatov, on the other hand, is the only new character who has something going for him, this guy has a solid background, an inner conflict and he he is involved in the only interesting story line in the damn show. There was also a nice detail about him coloring his hair.

All the characters from the previos season are more or less walking fanservice. Can't say a lot of about them. Neither do the authors of Psycho-Pass 3 because there were a few mind-blowing relevations regarding to some of them that never were explained.

The quality of art was nice in the first episodes, but sunked near the end. The music is meh, I remember only a remix of the first season theme.

As much as I was dissapointed with S2, at least it was still Psycho-Pass. This new season is a hardly about the world of Sybil system anymore, it's just a standard political thriller with over complicated plot and cardboard characters.

Three episodes in, I was ready to declare Pyscho-Pass 3 an excellent season of one of my favorite shows. The music was good, the animation was beautiful, fight scenes were complex and brutal, the new cast of characters were starting to grow on me and cameos from the old characters gave some of them more opportunities to shine than they had in the past two seasons (plus the movies). I was really digging it.

Then about halfway through, I noticed a slight dip in the animation quality. The fight scenes became more sporadic and rushed. The dominators only came out a handful of times. And while ... I appreciate getting a different perspective on the world of Psycho-Pass compared to the previous seasons, stories about real estate scams and election rigging just don't capture one's attention like stories of lunatics and serial killers. The first two seasons bordered on horror in some places, and there was legitimate tension that a main character could die at any moment.

For the most part, that tension is gone in the third season. By the final episode, the characters and situation may have certainly developed, but so many story threads are left dangling, teasing another season. I like a good cliffhanger as much as the next guy, but it feels like there's no meaningful denouement here at all, and that's unfortunate.

Pscyho Pass 2 derailed the Psycho Pass franchise, is this third season not only redeem Tow Ubutaka or is it one as the same as Psycho Pass 2?

Well right from the off Psycho Pass 3 actually starts after the events of the System Case files movies and well right from the off, ALOT has changed, for one, two new Inspectors are now in the limelight with Akane now on the run much like Kougami after Psycho Pass 1, Mika is now the chief of a division of the Public Bureau and we're back the usual case by case formula, just that a secret organization Bifrost ... BETS on whether the Inspector or the Killer will win in the background or something like that, it's never really elaborated WHAT Bifrost main goal is with their "games".

To this right, LA will say that Psycho Pass 3's writing had improved since the second season, yes it's not the same as philosophical as the first season but in terms of consistency and Psycho Pass 3 trying it's own thing especially in the world building, it's an improvement even if a little from the second season. Also LA is actually fine with Mika being Chief it's oddly good for her from the derailment of a character assassination she went through in the second season.

So with these two new Inspectors, well at least this season makes us get used to them and makes us sympathize with them, Kei Mikhail Ignatov voiced by Yuuichi Nakamura is a foreign Inspector and keeps Arata Shindou voiced by Yuki Kaji in check and since there are inspectors, they get their own Enforcers in which they too get a bit of screentime and development here and there from Kazumichi Irie voiced by Junichi Suwabe of being the delinquent and seedy side of the slums, Tenma Todoroki voiced by Akio Ootsuka being labeled a latent criminal in a family in politics and clear Hues thus a disgrace to his family to Mao Kisaragi voiced by Kaori Nazuka who had a past traumas that caused her to be labeled a latent criminal but turned inspector. For the most part the enforcers have their time in the limelight during certain cases and do we learn a bit about them and how they turned into enforcers, so it's something for the new roster of characters. Now uhhhh Arata kinda has a HUGE OP skill about him, in which he can go back and like astral project events that's happened as long as he can see it...yeah for detective work, it's kinda OP and Ignatov is the anchor to get Arata back from his visions, their kinda OP together and Ignatov is a combat specialist to boot. In a sense LA can see that Tow wanted Arata as an Akane surrogate with Ignatov as a Kougami surrogate. Yes the old original cast had been disbanded due to the System Case File movies but even they make cameos with Akane in the background getting her "judgment" by Sibyl and Akane has some connections to Arata at that. So our leading men is a clean slate for Psycho Pass has has some problems with the enforcers themselves needing more screentime but with the anime focusing on Arata and Ignatov's motives of being Inspectors but that's more of the detriment of this season focusing on the cases and generally with all the little subplotlines it just packs in the one hour 8 episodes it gives us.

What LA got out the new characters even towards all this is that with the disaster and multiple character assassinations of the core original cast, Tow thought to stay away but still keep intact their dignity as characters by making the core original cast be the pedestal for the new Inspectors and Enforcers as they help out immensely in the cases whilst in their jurisdiction of being in foreign Affairs, essentially Sibyl System International, another words Tow didn't make the same mistake he did with Shimotsuki. But to this end, LA just thought Tow wanted a clean slate much like Shimotsuki and added new characters into the world of Sibyl System so he would've of tainted any of the core original cast anymore, more evident of the System Case File Movies and Shimotsuki's improvement in this season as a whole at the offset.

Now onto Bifrost and what LA mentioned about them, Bifrost has it's strengths and weakness about it for this season, strengths as this feels like it's in Tow's wheelhouse as LA knows he directed Phi Brain series, but adding Bifrost as this blind spot in Sibyl System just felt off whenever it was brought up, like this is just LA but wouldn't the Sibyl System like NOT have ANY blind spots in it's own system or at least try to eradicate it before it grows like what Bifrost is now?. As much LA said the world building in this season was a step up, there are some flaws or nitpicks to it and Bifrost being the blind spot is one of them, like it extends to the fact that the Sibyl System let a criminally hued spot go free in one of the arcs (The run for Governor arc) as you know Sibyl would want to stop that and have EVERY part of the country being governed by the system let alone if a blind spot like a criminally hued spot be left out like this, it's pretty much cancer to Sibyl System itself. To the people who comes rushing to this flaw, no Akane is a special case as she's only ONE person and criminally asymptomatic, she's essentially the opposite of the Bifrost blind spots to Sibyl's eyes, a remedy as it were.

Tow's writing was improved in this season but not by much and LA wouldn't blame Naoyoshi Shiotani the director for this season, he was more or less given Tow's material and was told what he could do with that. Is this season's writing horrible?, no Tow feels more or less restrained and rightly so (with Makoto Fukami co-script writing this season) in not getting things out of control and utterly destroy Psycho Pass' world and it's characters and it shows with the new cast and some leverage to what can be done with the Sibyl System or to be more precise Bifrost.

The animation done by Production IG from the first season is back and well LA will say the animation is back up to par, with the futuristic city that Sibyl System governs. The character designs are good as ever and the background work is decent to sometimes mesmerizing. The fights are decent with some gunfights to some CQC here and there thanks to Kei. But it's Production IG and the animation really gets a pass for LA, great animation but expected from them.

The voice cast is back as well as some new voice actors, from Yuuichi Nakamura and Yuki Kaji as Kei and Arata respectively. On the new enforcers side we have Kaori Nazuka, Hioki Touchi and Akio Ootsuka as Mao, Teppei and Tenma respectively and they did their roles decently. The original voice cast is back thanks to their involvement with this season and they did their part, but since this is a new season with a new cast, the majority of the screentime is focused on Kei and Arata, yeah Yuuichi Nakamura and Yuki Kaji gets props, BUT LA's real MVP goes to Ayane Sakura as Mika Shimotsuki just showing a new funnier, better side to her and ALMOST erasing her Season 2 counterpart.

With the Psycho Pass franchise being splintered BUT all directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani, Psycho Pass 3 isn't the beacon showing that the Psycho Pass is back, more at the very least Tow is restraining himself with this season and at least Psycho Pass 3 mildly and conveniently forgetting the latter events of Psycho Pass 2 to patch things up. BUT with Tow wanting to rebuild Psycho Pass to his own vision using Kei and Arata, LA is worried even if this season showed he can do it...with his own fanfic characters inserted into the narrative of Psycho Pass, nonetheless Tow under the eye of Makoto Fukami seems not tarnish any of the core original cast anymore even all this and focusing more on Bifrost as his pet project away from the Sibyl System so that's something, whether it's good or bad is another thing to pass judgment later.

The only other problem is that this season isn't "finished' as per say, as Season 3 leaves things with the Public Bureau or to be more precise, Kei and Arata closer to Bifrost with Bifrost also being splintered by it's only two members left duking it out and THAT will be covered in it's OWN movies.

Psycho Pass 3 ain't Psycho Pass 2 levels of horrible, but falls behind the first season but NEAR the first movie and the System Case File movies.....in all....it's ok but LA is still skeptical about the future of Psycho Pass with what this season brought, for good or bad and thus "ok" isn't exactly a good jumping point for one of LA's beloved anime franchise this late into the game...retconned and resuscitated back to life but will continue be a shadow of it's first season or will get better?...LA do hopes so somehow.

There's really only one question on everyone's mind when going into the latest season of Psycho-Pass. "Is it as bad as season 2?" While initially, the short answer that came to me was that it was in fact not as bad as the previous season this simple comparison does fail to do justice to any ideas around this season and how it truly stacks up to the franchise. Psycho-Pass 3 takes place a few years after the events of the last season and the Sinners of the System movies. We follow new inspectors Shindou Arata and Kei Mikhail Ignatov. They are forced to chase ... various culprits in their attempts to make sense of the the manipulation and assassination attempts on the Tokyo gubernatorial candidates and resulting governor.

I'll go ahead state that this season is thought out in large detail, complex, and comprehensive. All issues that last season held as it tried to jump from case to case in the most convenient manner possible, are actually erased. Particularly each incident from S2 played out in a ridiculous, cartoonish manner. S3 grows up... or at least that's what I'd like to say. The comparative strengths of S3 actually don't look so bright on its own. As the season proceeds, the cases essentially devolve into the inspectors chasing info, while leaving the viewer struggling to keep up. What you see during the episodes is some issue or event occurs, then Arata along with the criminal investigation department's analyst Shion exposition dump a mass of info pertaining to whatever findings are discovered via either some data analysis deductions or some information searching that reveals the activities of a person of interest being investigated. This is followed by the team proceeding to investigate to attain more information only to either be stone walled by politics and bureaucracy, or to find new strings to chase in the investigation with little in the way of answers. Essentially, it's as if the writer is attempting to ensure that the failure of the last season doesn't not occur, merely creating another dilemma in the process. Instead of previously using cartoonish, silly scenarios in which no serious professional would act to force the story to go along its path to arrive at a certain place, on this occasion the writer drags the viewer through the course of the story in order to expedite the process of the story telling and arrive at the necessary conclusion by using mass case info and jumping to conclusions difficult for the viewer to reasonably follow. "But Rev, surely the show just wants you to think hard enough along with, maybe you just aren't paying attention!". Well, I wish. Let me give a plain example that occurs early on. It's established that a Gubernatorial campaign is occurring, and in episode 3 a staffer on one side dies by falling out a window. Shion asks the investigative group to guess what she found on security camera footage and Arata guesses that they found a member of the opposition campaign was staying at the same hotel. This is a significant scene due to how it's portrayed, which is to portray that Arata is smart but it also inherently says that you should be able to guess this. Well, turns out that the guy had actually absolutely nothing to do with the matter. This doesn't just happen once, this happens every episode. The viewer is given information stated to them from analysis about the case rather than witnessing the perpetrators actions. This creates confusion around the actions of various antagonists an deciphering who is behind ceratin events. The flaw behind this is clear. The series gets difficult to follow, particularly as you get into later episodes. If someone sat down with you to watch an episode mid season and asked for a brief explanation following the plot of the season, it would be unreasonably difficult to do.

There's a greater point that I want to make here, which is really the crux of the last 2 seasons of Psycho-Pass. Each season has cases that it starts off with, with the goal of eventually making it to the big case at the end and the overall point regarding the cases themselves as well as the integrity of the system. Season 1 managed this brilliantly, sticking to a single theme of individuality and freedom vs the Sibyl System and portraying that through the thoughtful actions of the antagonist. Season 2 for all it's criticisms did have a good overall idea around it wanting to look at the judgment of groups, but every single case was done in portrayed in some ridiculous outlandish manner in which you could not actually believe that the author would write it without actually seeing the flaw in it. But in season 3 we take a dive in the complete opposite direction. In this season, we can understand how the author wants to string each of the cases together, but most the information is conveyed to the viewer in a using a large amount of the aforementioned information dumping. We rarely see the actions of the culprits behind the initial cases. Although we are aware these guys are not the main villains, but merely the underlings of people being manipulated by those villains, it leaves the viewer feeling like you are lacking knowledge about events for the most part. Another example I could use is to return to season 1. For every case, Makishima manipulated someone to cause some sort of act. Over these cases, we got to observe what the culprit did and why, and slowly we learned Makishima's objectives. In this season, the viewer is near completely blind to the culprits. We play a role closer to the shoes of the investigators rather than that of a neutral, omniscient observer. This is doesn't work as an overall directional choice because this is a show. It's not for example a video game, where the player role plays an investigator solving cases.

This draws me to the conclusion that that Ubutaka Tow cannot string together a story to save his life. He cannot. I don't mean he can't make the basic outline of a story. Though it's hard to say for this season as the story isn't complete, for last season the overall concept was fitting and interesting. But good writers do the hard part, which is getting the story properly from start to finish and detailing it in a manner that makes sense. He tried one method in season 2 and it failed. He tried another this season and it did not fail as badly, but it still failed. He just isn't a guy that you want in charge of writing an overall story, because he can't link together points and ideas as well as Gen Urobuchi can. Hell, even the man who worked on the movies, Makoto Fukami, did a decent job of following up on the story. I can only assume that whatever role he played in the story help smooth things out in some manner to make it slightly better than S2, Due to Ubutaka Tow not having working on any of the movies.

Of course there are other strange things to see about the show. The mentalist ability is a rather outlandish way to characterize whatever psychotic issues Arata has while driving the story, as it's a capability he pulls out whenever he finds himself in a pinch to deduce what happened to the deceased. The show also focuses on the Sibyl's decision to accept immigrants after initally holding an isolationist policy. This matches the idea of Sibyl wishing to eventually expand to outside of Japan even with the risk of strain or failure as shown in the first movie. More so I just think the portrayal of it all is tactless. On some occasions the show paints any anti immigrants as evil job and health service thieves, but I was surprised to see they never touched on the mere that foreign hues clouded natives in other ways such as differing cultures. But at other times it is portrayed in an understandable manner, portraying them as exploited for cheap labor or prostitution. These issues are all still touched on rather superficially. The best case in which the show builds a concept is where it replicates the US housing crash and recession in one of the first cases, but again it is slightly superficial in how it handled the culprits and the progression of the case.

There is definitely other stuff the can be observed, but the aforementioned points on Ubutaka Tow, the overall writing and how the story is driven will form your overall opinion of the show. If you care about that, you will think the show is poor or average and that will be what truly lets the show down and makes viewers not really care about what entertainment it does provide. If that does not bother you, then you will like the show. And there is stuff to like. The action is still great to watch, the show is scheming, and the OST is good as with previous seasons. There are still a lot of interesting mysteries for the show to cover which will be good. The mysteries behind the two new inspectors families as well as the previous incidents in the 3 year gap between SS and this season the led to Gino and Teppei to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the incarceration of Akane. The role of Bifrost and its relationship to Sibyl. I don't expect to be let down on all of these fronts, but for me the most important things in life are characterized not by their strengths, but their weaknesses. And the same holds true with Psycho-Pass Season 3.

Slight spoilers ahead

Well, well, well... Guess who is back, Psycho Pass, after 3 new movies we get a new season , is it good?... eh,not really.

I'll start with what i disliked about it.
My first problem is something, pretty obvious, the sudden change of the cast, I say sudden because I had no idea of what this season would entail.The new cast was decent at best, even though the new enforcers for most of the time had one single trait, and it felt like their existence didn't really matter.In the end some of them got some development but it still felt underwhelming. The new inspectors, Kei ... and Arata, start pretty interesting but as time goes on and the story progresses they become boring, and one of them goes against all his character at the end of the season, for conflict. Arata is basically Akane but with some mental powers that came out of nowhere,it wasn't even explained it just got introduced and we had to accept it(There's also a big dragon head that appears in all of them,it's reason, like the ability, wasn't explained so i'm not gonna dwell much into it). Just like Akane he believes that people can change and in a lot of cases he goes against his enforcers to save some people that couldn't really be saved, and that fact is made obvious every time.In one way it shows how much he cherishes life but when he ignores everything and goes out of his way to save "unsavable" people it comes off as annoying after it's done multiple times.
The reason why the old cast disbanded isn't revealed yet so i can't really say much about it outside my frustration, every time i saw the old cast i was reminded that they weren't there anymore and it really didn't help me like the new cast.
Another big problem i had is the world.When i first saw the world of Psycho Pass i was enthralled, it felt outlandish, i wanted to know more and see how crazy they could get with technology. This season went against that and added some places that felt, really out of place for this world, they seemed like they were frozen in time for decades,old buildings and factories that looked straight out of eastern europe. The fact that Japan was very advanced was set in stone in the first season, seeing those places so close to the city everything too place in really made me think this didn't happen in the same world.
The big bad guys this season weren't of my liking either , the whole concept of such a big organisation with such a power existing alongside Sibyl felt too forced, their headquarters also looked ridiculous, it reminded me of something out of Bioshock. The stock game, i don't know how to call it, was pretty stupid, it felt like i was watching 3 people playing Monopoly. All my problems with it tie with the world problem, if this wasn't in Psycho Pass, but in a different world where all these contradictions didn't exist, maybe i would have found it interesting.
In this season they tried tackling subjects like economy, politics, religion, immigration. Most of them worked... well pretty much all of them to some degree, except religion. Why exactly did it fail?, same problem as the bigbadvillainsorganiation, a new cult emerged, it's leader was accepted Sibyl and they amassed a big number of followers. Their "church" is a building with such a size that some priests would've wet themselves at the sight of it, so big that at least some kid made a "yo momma" joke about it. With such size you think it was built afar from the city, nah, it just appeared there, also they made it so no signals can enter it, so Sybil wouldn't interfere, glad they were ok with that. This might seem like i'm nitpicking, maybe, but for me it just destroyed my immersion and made me think how stupid it looked.
Without spoiling much of the story these are some of my problems, there are other, especially with the characters but that would mean giving context, so spoilers, yeah i'm leaving it like that.

After complaining so much, you might be surprised i gave it a 6, well there are some things i liked.
The best thing this season had to offer is... a likeable Shimotsuki, one that it's existence isn't just to make the viewers want to punch their screen, and goddamn i'm glad this happened. Her development started since the first case file movie so i wasn't that surprised but it still felt good.
In the first half, Kei and Arata had a fun chemistry and seeing them resolve cases was actually interesting. Sadly as time went on they got, not as interesting,and sometimes annoying. But for some time they made me forget about unit one.The side characters, even if they were one dimensional for most of the time, they were likeable so that's good i guess.
After they stopped talking about bifrost (badguys), it focused more on the detective/police side of Psycho Pass that i love, they kept doing that until the last episodes. I really liked that part of the it.
The animation was amazing, prod ig really improved their cgi and the combination of it with animation. All the fight scenes looked good and the choreography wasn't plain.

Is this season the worst thing that Japan has birthed?, no.
Most of my problems happened in the first episode and the last ones, more exactly bifrost, throughout the rest of the episodes, there was some problems but,not that many.
Is this season worth watching? Depends, if you liked the movies you might like it but there's also the chance you'll find the change of cast jarring, like me.
My advice if you want to watch it is to go without any expectations, even expect the worst season of Psycho Pass, if you go with high expectations and the hope you'll see Akane and Kougami working together, you'll be utterly disappointed.

So, I'm not the best reviewer, and given how much time between PP2 and 3, I kind of forgot some of the plot holes that irritated me and were left unanswered about Sibyl. At any rate a lot of this show fell flat in the sense of making the viewer 'eat' more without any questions being 'digested'. Too much more is introduced and the plot pacing is hard latch onto. Mind you i actually really liked both prior seasons almost equally.

The politics of it all was somewhat 'cloudy' (heh) due ... to the fact that apparently Sibyll had totalitarian control of everything happening regardless according to pp1/2. Now all of the sudden there is a counter system called Bifrost. Could have been cooler if more mayhem was caused and inspectors were getting closer to THAT instead of chasing individuals or each other for most of the series.

The two MC's were likable and a breath of fresh air, however one of them is a 'Mentalist' who is damn near clairvoyant. If this still followed the same worldbuilding as the first two, you would think he would be an unstoppable detective. However he is just a really good tactician who has flashbacks of others via empathy?? or something??? Something. It doesnt take away from the story too, too much but theres too much going on to get hung up on it regardless. But once again the MC's are morally ambiguous which can make things a lot more interesting or a lot more boring.

Season 1 and 2 found time to at least wrap it tf up in 25 episodes, and giving the viewer time to at least be on board by the time of the climax. Of course paying super close attention is important in this series, however its distracting or even difficult to want to when continuity doesnt seem to be of super big importance. And there wasnt even a climax. Old MC cameo's are a little forced as well, since they dont bring anything to the table about the past or even really contribute to what is unfolding currently.

What i DID like however was the fight choreography. Dominators were barely used except for getting Hue reading, which ,,, eh i woulda pointed at who is trying to fist fight me, but the animation and soundtrack was super good. All in all, the show isnt great, and quite honestly left me a little disappointed. I dont think I'll watch this 'ending' movie with high hopes given that its been on the decline for quite a while.

This review is for Psycho-Pass 3, the third season of the series. This portion does not include First Inspector, which takes place directly after the end of Season 3.

Summary:
Psycho-Pass is a psychological, detective-style series set in the future. Law enforcement is governed by the Sibyl System, which utilizes a person’s hue and Crime Coefficient to determine their mental state and likelihood of committing a crime. Psycho-Pass 3 sets aside some past characters and motives like a reboot, and it introduces new characters and the is story guided more by human politics than its predecessors. Overall, this season is an improvement from season 2, ... though it does have glaring flaws.

Story: 5/10
Season 3 picks up some time after Season 2, with significant changes to the cast, immediately evident starting in episode 1. The story focuses more on a mystery motivated by a complicated political hierarchy (no spoilers), which is an improvement from the storyline in Season 2. The overall themes in Season 3 are still weak compared to Season 1, but they are more interesting than Season 2, and the plot focuses more on humanity than it does the repetitive AI-style Sibyl System prominent in previous seasons. The story is mysterious, though incomplete at the end of the 8 episodes. To understand the full story, you must also watch the three episodes of Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector, which will be reviewed separately. Generally, the story in Season 3 is an improvement from Season 2, though it does jump around with many unanswered questions, including the jarring removal of a main character and the evident hole in the Sibyl System that had not been explored before. Furthermore, some abilities are introduced with insufficient description and, although the abilities do add to the mystery and uniqueness of the characters, they break the rules of Seasons 1 and 2 in a murky way. Overall, the story is intriguing and more interesting than the previous season, but the pacing may be a little too fast, as it doesn’t provide the viewer with quite enough information to satiate the many questions that are posited along the way. While mysterious, the plot makes it challenging to understand the rules of the story.

Art: 9/10
The art is fitting, and the detail in the cityscapes is pretty. This season has the best animation out of the first three seasons.

Sound: 5/10
The music is average. The voice acting (sub) is sufficient. There is nothing special about this soundtrack, and the opening and ending themes are also average. The soundtrack does seem more fitting than in Season 2.

Characters: 6/10
Season 3’s characters are far more interesting and compelling than in Season 2. One flaw is that the series’ main protagonist is principally absent, and the story does not clearly indicate why. There are a variety of unanswered questions pertaining to the previous cast of characters, including how they ended up in the positions they did. Some roles are also new to the series’ world, with no explanation. Beyond this, the new characters are a significant improvement from the previous season. Instead of one-dimensional plot devices for characters, Unit One has a dynamic cast of people who actually interact and work as a team while also making challenging decisions. Shindo and Ignatov make a convincing duo, and the side characters are all intriguing. Although the antagonists, in the form of a political system, are mystical and intricate, they are a relative weakness.

Enjoyment: 7/10
Although it was confusing and had its flaws in plot and characters, this was an enjoyable watch. It certainly doesn’t have the same impact as Season 1, but it is an improvement from Season 2, especially with more interesting and compelling characters. Season 3 is entertaining, albeit unexceptional in overall quality.
