Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (7/8 eps)
Awfully unbalanced, to say the least. This installment could have gone in so many better directions, yet we´ve ended up with a shallow follow-up that only echoes back the days of Psycho-Pass' greatness when the characters from the old set-up show up.
There is no suspense as it gets lost in the pile of dialogues that introduce loads of plots that don't get to be properly developed anyway. There's no emotional connection to the characters growing as they're given no importance, contrasted with background global affairs that are supposed to be the main plot. And then, when all the pieces of the puzzle come together (around 7th episode) we don't feel invested nor moved whatsoever, feeling that we didn't get to know them at all, neither do we care about the fate of the world depicted in the series. The only likable character here is Kei, who gets only slightly better treatment from the writer than the rest of the cast.
Other than that, it's just boring and long-winded. The only things that keep it all in place are, of course, Kanno's music and outstanding animation. But they won't make up for the mistreated textual layer. Well, unfortunately that's exactly what happens when you get caught up in the grandeur of politics, global affairs and masterminds. I suppose it was bound to happen at some point...
