Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken OVA

Tldr at the bottom.

I finally finished watching all of these so I guess its time to edit and finish up my review. My thoughts haven't changed at all from when I saw the first two eps. Like a lot of the 1st season the ova feels very relaxed and slice of life, a very wholesome watch mixed in with some pretty good/great comedy. The first two episodes are stand alone with one being inside a dream world after Rimuru takes some sleeping pills and the second being a beach episode. The next three episodes tell a story ... of Rimuru helping the kids that he saved with a competition they take part in for their school. As far as I can tell nothing here moves the story along in any way which is to be expected from ova's.(although I think the last 3 eps introduce some characters we will see again in the future if you're interested in that)

I'll quickly go through animation, sound, character, and enjoyment. I thought the animation was pretty good. Its been a minute since I watched the 1st season but I remember being really impressed by how great they did on that. I think the quality is about as good in here although I'm no expert on animation so it might be different but I didn't notice anything. I rarely notice sound unless its really bad and it was definitely fine to where I didn't notice anything. The characters are great and its a joy watching everyone interact. I like the first two episodes better since we get to spend time with main cast and I really like watching Rimuru's harem fight over him lol. That's not to say the next 3 eps are bad though, they are very wholesome and the kids are cute a lot of the time. Rimuru is the constant along with the system administrator who make everything interesting and humorous. I really enjoyed myself throughout, I was either laughing or being happy and relaxed with how wholesome things were. In conclusion watch this is you liked the show and you like the characters, you won't be disappointed.

TLDR: A very funny and wholesome watch. If you liked the 1st season I'd definitely recommend this, just don't expect a continuation of the story or a ton of action.
P.S. Episode 2 is the beach episode :)

The first two episodes are essentially pure fanservice, which drags the score down for me. If you like fanservice, you will most certainly enjoy them more than I did.

If you're looking more for something that hits the "regular" pace of this show, the third OVA gets back into that, starting a story centering around the academy kids. As it ends partway through telling the story, the 4th OVA will doubtlessly continue, and perhaps even on to the 5th.

This OVA isn't really anything special and I doubt that it will significantly change the direction of the plot, but if you really like the show, it's worth ... watching.

My opinion of Slime much differed from the others. I found it a casual watch, but I also understood why others revered it as an amazing anime of the year it came out on. To me, it was a satisfying grind which much resembled the satisfaction of building up a new home, with funny and likeable characters. Essentially, Slime was Civilization: The Animation. How does the 5 OVA episodes hold up, though?

To put it simply, there are 3 story arcs within these ... 5 episodes. Each of them are highly memorable and whilst the first two don't expand on the world all that much, the final one is well-worth the watch, as it highlights the academy that Rimuru had the pleasure of teaching after Shizue's promise.

Expect the usual artwork, voice acting, and music. The OVAs are still a blast to watch through - minus the fanservice. I've read a review on here saying it was "pure fanservice", but I beg to differ. These are still watchable even if you're not avid on it, as they will only take place towards the later segments of the first two episodes. The artwork and voice acting are still as fantastic as usual. Slime does not deliver Ufotable means of entertainment in its art, but regardless the unique style of Slime makes a nice contrast from the other anime of our time. Finally, if you're a Sub or Dub viewer, then expect amazing voices from both ends. As a person who saw Slime in both Sub and Dub for certain portions, I can confirm that they both hold their same level of emotion and value. In short: This is the traditional Slime experience.

Regardless, if you - like me - thought that Slime was a satisfying watch, then these OVAs are something to consider. They were a fun, short, and sweet ride which expanded on certain characters and introduced new ones. Don't expect any Season 2 buildup, and see these as "Paralouge" missions that appeared midway through the main two arcs of Season 1 for our loveable cast.

Albeit it has taken a pretty long time to get all these OVA's it is a great marketing tactic before the next season to keep the show fresh in mind.

The 5 OVA's are all very enjoyable and meet the expectations as you want without interfering directly with the main story so that season 2 can start where it wants to start. In theory season 2 could time skip and it would still work.

The art is a great level that is wonderful on the eyes to see. Although edges of faces and such can be a bit crude ... at times it is generally visually spectacular. Especially the user of magic which looks great on screen.

The sound continues on with the spectacular SFX used. 'Dragon Buster' by Milim for me as part of the series as a whole remains an example of the effort put into the show. Generally, other sounds have improved slightly too.

The characters all continue development as expected from before. It is nice to see more of the ways of the world and progresses that can be made whilst seeing some joyful and hilarious moments from the cast. Milim remains my favourite character for her over the top attitude although most others contribute too.

As it is what it is I would recommend watching this if you wanted to see the second season and if you are new watch it after season 1 but all before season 2.

This anime really represents all I wanted for in an anime,a perfect (for me) combination of Isekai and SoL (maybe for the 1st season) where you can enjoy every seconds watching it, a story where you unites different kind of creatures spesifically monsters (of course I wanted them to be goodlooking:). I really like the anime's concept (game system + isekai), there's so many skill and there isn't any level for the skill's power, which I find simple and enjoyable. Also, I think the rich in diversity of the creatures is the main reason I liked this anime. I ... liked how they work together to create a world where different kinds of creature can live happily together. And for this OVA, I think it doesn't move the story so far, it just tell Rimuru's daily life which they skipped it at the 1st season.

An amazing bunch of OVAs. A nice change of pace and then some.

The characters and animation are all the same as the first season, so I won't say much about that. However, a few new characters were introduced in these OVAs, but are what you'd expect in the quality of this franchise.

I'll be talking about the contents of each OVA the most (without spoilers), as that is the most important part:

The first episode is a change of pace from our usual fiasco. This episode is mainly just all fun and games and is used to give our characters more spotlight time. A very entertaining ep, ... from beginning to end. (Shion and Treyni got me wildin' tho)

The second episode is the same case as the first, with it having a clear end goal for the end of the episode. I won't say much about the contents, but I will say this: "If an anime doesn't have this type of episode, then is it really an anime?" (you'll understand). This anime is also just used as spotlight time for our cast.

The last three episodes, however, are different than the other two. These episodes have a plot that follows through each episode and has a clear endpoint that is discussed in the third episode. Between the starting and ending points of these episodes, they give the students more time to shine, while broadening their relationships and such. These episodes are where the new characters are introduced as well.

Overall, a very good bunch of OVAs. The first two are for dumb fun, which gives us a break from the usual. The last three I kinda wish were part of the first season, as they would fit there more, but it's fine. A good watch after completing S1.

This OVA starts with the first episode being almost completely fanservice, where Rimuru sets out to make a small beanbag version of himself. Following this, we have another fanservice episode - Rimuru introduces everyone to sumo. The final three episodes are what is important though - because this would be believable to be part of the main season. Rimuru's Class S has a competition against the other classes, with twists and turns along the way. There is essentially a miniature arc just for Class S' adventure and it is HIGHLY enjoyable.


Usually, OADs like these have a much worse art style than ... the main series itself, but this does well at staying on the same path, following the art style as if they were part of the main series, as opposed to the Veldora OVA which is slightly worse.


Audibly, there is not a great contrast from the main series - it has the same opening and ending themes and keeps the classic background music - it does well at relaxing the soul.


Rimuru Tempest (Satoru Mikami) - Died and reincarnated as a slime in another world filled with monsters.

The first OVA episode was pure comedy relief and an episode that adapts yet another real life concept. The last 3 episodes of these OVAs provides us with some insight into what the children are capable of doing with their own abilities, it had great sound effects and further led on to the mystery of a certain character, it builds up the hype to find out its purpose.

In comparison to other anime's specials, this one has been made with a focus on still adding progress to Rimuru's nation and personal connections. It stays engaging and we really start to see the a glimpse of ... how one slime will impact every character in its world.

I won't say much about this since it is just an ova. But if you liked the humor or gags in the main show, then this ova actually has the best joke in the entire series. I was laughing so hard when I saw it. The joke made all five eps worth it. If ya like humor, watch this and it will provide an amazing joke for you. Though the content overall is still great even without the joke since it is still the slime isekai after all.

Also has some of if not the best fanservice in the series if ya like that.
