Galaxy Angel

Talk about a whacked, light-hearted and joke-able anime. Galaxy Angel surely sets its own genre in terms of wackiness and unique way of presenting funny ideas. You have a team of 5 girls working in a team, a half-broken Lost Technology that was a weapon of mass destruction which its brain got slapped onto a motionless ugly doll. They're definitely not making any sense in most cases, but if you try to enjoy it in a different perspective - to accept the "weirdness" that it makes... it's not bad at all. Some of the stories are kinda cliche in that you ... would know what happened in between events, but definitely enjoyable. You just had to watch it carefully sometimes to get the jist of it.

Story: 8/10. All of those funny jokes that they play on each character were good enough to let me spend the day to laugh at it.

Art: 8/10. Not the best, but well animated, especially in season one, they actually tried to theme each in different ways (american cartoons, japanese traditions, etc).

Sound: 8/10. The music they played in between episodes were suitable enough, and the Theme songs were definitely catchy.

Character: 9/10. While each of them were team members of this military group, each of them has their cliche characteristics; Forte's crazy on weapons, Ranpha's crazy about materialism, Milfeuille's always lucky, dumb and kind-hearted, Mint's crazy about cute cosplay suits (animals, lol, and i love the sound that her cow-ears makes), and Vanilla, always quiet, sometimes gives you surprising reactions. Nomad's always being abused (I think mostly by Forte). It's a nice mix of characters that plays in this anime nicely.

Enjoyment: 10/10. I don't know about others, but I sure enjoyed it a lot. You don't have to pay 100% attention to watch it (i.e. You dont have to think hard about it). Just laugh at them and enjoy your time.

Overall: 8/10. I enjoyed the series, and perhaps I'll look for the manga as well :)

If you have the time and wanted to watch something to make you laugh a bit, pick this series up. I'd recommend it to anyone.

This is a silly comedy, as such it should be reviewed like that and this review will do just that.

A lot of people (here on MAL at least) seem to give Galxy Angel a low score due to it's "lack of a story and plot". This is true, as far as the show goes, there is no actual plot or red-thread that the story follows. The main element and driving force behind the show is the characters, who's mision is to search for items and things called Lost Technology, ancient things of power from the past (obviously). Here follows the difference in my own review ... from most others:

While Galaxy Angel does indeed not have a plot or any real storyline, but that's alright, it's actually fine. The show is a silly, cutesy-tootsie anime with five girls as the main characters, each with their own (perhaps a bit preditacble and stereotpyical) personalities and tastes. Their inter-group relationship may seem friendly and so at first glance, but if you have some intuition and actually pay attention, you can notice a lot of interesting, underlying rivarly and other goodies. The show has a very silly and exaggerated comedy-aspect and many of the jokes have been used before and probably better, still, there are parts of the show that *will* make you laugh.

What can you say about the sound, music and art then? You can't complain, there are shows out there who have far worse and the style fits perfectly with the show's theme of silly, easy-going comedy. Some might like the songs and soundtrack enough to actually buy the OST, gods know that the opening theme is so darn catchy, I still catch myself humming it occasionally. Which also brings to another good point, the OP is absolutely hilarious, it's so incoherent and stupid that if you don't crack a smile there's something seriously wrong with you (or you got a twig stuck up your butt).

Story? There's no story, there's a plot element: They are searching for Lost Technology but more oft than not they end up doing and getting into situations that have absolutely nothing to do with it at all. The characters consist of a gun-tooting tomboy with an overly large bust, a beautiful and flirtatious martial-artist, a kind-hearted and lucky dim-wit, a mature yet slightly mean loli-figure and of course, the token silent-girl who seems to be some sort of creepy pseudo-monk who worships a really strange, rotating device in her room (It's awesome!).

All in all, a lot of people unfairly rate Galaxy Angel for it's plotless and senseless story, but I really don't think that's the major problem. The show is a silly, exaggerated comedy and you can't really expect any high-rate scripts and well-written stories for those, now can you? Give it a try if you're looking for a good laugh and some minutes of enjoyment. Each episode is only 15 minutes anyway so you could easily finish all, or half, the series in just one go if you'd like. I certainly recommend this show and it was actually so enjoyable that I'll go on to watch all the other seasons as well, just for the laughs.

Galaxy Angel has an unusual history. From the research I did, it seems that the anime was created to advertise a virtually simultaneous game release. Both from Broccoli entertainment. There was just one issue, the game got delayed, the anime didn't and the anime staff didn't have any information about the game except for the character designs and a few basic character traits. So they decided to just forget about the dating sim continuity and just do whatever they wanted with it. The end result was that the anime and game became set in alternate universes. How did that work out? Let's take a look ... at the original anime and find out.

Galaxy Angel quickly abandons even the pretense of a story. After the first three episodes you can watch the rest in any order and not have any problems. The setting is that a group of five girls go on bizarre military missions, hilarity ensues. Is the anime funny? Very much so. It has a very fast-paced, zany type of humour. It's used to great effect in virtually all of the episodes. The only exception is episode 14 which is inexplicably serious. I don't know what they were thinking with that one. It doesn't make sense to have a serious episode in an absurdest comedy series. It would be like having a random comedic episode in the middle of Berserk. That aside, the situations are creative and they're used to great effect.

The characters are a quirky group with a lot of energy and they interact well with each other. The cast isn't complex but they are charming and a great deal of fun. You could say that they're a microcosm of what to expect from the entire series.

The art is good. There are a lot of impressive details in the various objects that the characters encounter, the backgrounds and backdrops are lively. The art is also the only indication that you get that the characters come from a dating sim. The characters have interesting looks but there's also some fan-service, albeit not much.

The voice acting is well done. Yamaguchi Megumi, Sawashiro Miyuki, Tamura Yukari and Shintani Ryoko all do really well in their roles. The entire cast exaggerates at times, but they also use subtlety quite a bit, certainly more than I expected from a zany comedy, and it works to accentuate certain scenes and downplay others which actually strengthens those moments where things go from mildly to insanely zany. Like the series, the music is high energy, nonsensical and fun.

The yuri factor is a 3/10. There are some slightly homo-erotic moments, most of them involving the boy crazy Ranpha oddly enough, but, like everything else in the series, they don't go anywhere. There also aren't enough to establish a pattern.

My final rating for Galaxy Angel is an 8/10. It's a great series. It may not be complex or have a story, but it does have a lot of high energy, creative comedy. It's a series that knows what it wants to do and runs with it. If you want a good laugh you really can't go wrong with Galaxy Angel. Just skip the fourteenth episode.

I'm talking about the series as a whole and not just the first seasons. It might seem long but by the end you'll wish there was more.

Some of the dumbest stuff you'll ever see and some of the most advanced comedy you'll ever see. Everything in between. This is a skit show, episodes don't necessarily rely on the content or canon of preceding episodes. There's sitcom style stuff, plenty of parody, occasionally completely serious episodes that remind me of Ghost in the Shell, and episodes that defy any form of categorization. Some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen in my life came out of ... this series. Jokes so sophisticated I can't comprehend how they were written. And of course gags on-tier with the good ol' banana peel, never fails.

All of the characters are good. Even the ones with hideously monstrous breasts. Really rare for a comedy series for me to like all of the characters, which is important as this show is primarily character based comedy. If you don't like cute girls or comedy(freak) then I don't know why you're even on this page get out of here. Otherwise you should love this series.

Normad is my self-insert

So first, I feel I must warn you: I am not as seasoned an anime fan as many other users on the forum, and my tastes can generally be described as girly(love Gossip Girl, The Hills etc) but sardonic. When it comes to humour, I absolutely love parody. This is why some of my favourite shows are Robot Chicken and South Park, yet I still watch The Backyardigans on occasion...And this is where Galaxy Angel comes in.

I feel that a lot of people in the anime community dismiss Galaxy Angel for a lack of plot, bad character designs etc etc, and while I agree ... it may not be the most original show ever, it is definitely enjoyable. It is a show that I can watch over and over and still enjoy (and I can't say that about a lot of shows). The humour is very light-hearted, but still takes maturity to understand. You can often see a lot of jokes coming, but that makes it that much funnier when you actually experience the punchline. This is not a series to be taken seriously, it is just to be enjoyed! It's the kind of thing that reminds me of Bugs Bunny with no real continuity or canon to speak of, life just "resets" instead of "continues" as normal each episode.

I loved the cute character designs, and the OP's and ED's were just to die for...I guess, yeah the art was kind of re-used and not that amazing, but that's an element that normally doesn't bug me that much.

Overall, this is a very enjoyable anime--I absolutely loved the voice acting, the characters, the humour and everything. This is definitely one of my favourite anime, and I really suggest watching at least a couple episodes (skip the first one if you must, it's kinda boring and you won't miss anything by jumping in mid-season) before passing judgment.

For an anime made in early 2000's Galaxy Angel is far superior than many and I mean many modern anime in 2020's and that just shows how modern anime doesn't try.

Not much plot but plot doesn't matter to me as much.

Development, hit or miss with character development as I focus more on a character personality than anything else but Galaxy Angel has some decent development in certain episodes for its characters.

Characters are Hella great, each character is written as funny jokes but likable and unlike modern anime they use good characteristics and pacing to make the characters seem like actual characters and not just ... forgettable try hards.

Overall enjoyment: 7.7/10

I was looking for a cute, easy, older anime to watch and this was definitely it. The humor was super fun, the characters were cute and unique enough and the pacing was good for ten minute episodes. Simple but sweet antics in a lil ~10 minute package. A lot of people seem to be complaining about lack of plot, so if youre looking for that definitely watch something else but that was kinda the main thing that drew me in. Just wanting to have a fun time! My biggest problem is that some of the episodes left me feeling slightly unsatisfied, they would end on ... a kind of "gotcha" note but thats to be expected with the kind of humor and it was always worth the ride despite the ending!

Galaxy Angel

Ah! What a crazy off the walls slice of life this anime is. An anime about several girls who are apart of the Angel Brigade on the search for "Lost Technology", the anime seems like it'll be a little serious in plot or something, but nope, not at all!!

Following the girls, we have the observational and smart Mint (Totally adorable!), the quiet and reserved Vanilla, the naïve and all out fun Milfeulle and the two bad asses; gun toting Forte and money gone crazy Ranpha.

The anime is 100% episodic with no true story occurring at all, though at times it seems ... like the lost technology arc is shoehorned in to make you think something is happening.

The girls themselves are super fun to follow around. Forte and Ranpha have great chemistry together, typically working together, but always competitive with one another, they bring out many abundant laughs. Milfeulle is the star of the show though; her naivety and innocent type of personality brings up many great scenes and is always used in great ways. She's super lucky and the things that happen with her and her "luck" are just brilliant. 100% comedy infused anime.

The art style used is very dated though, seeing as how the show aired in 01, it lends itself to much of the 90's look and feel. Not that there is anything wrong with this, Galaxy Angel still ends up looking very nice and most of the time, it's the girls who get the most screen time anyway, so they look great from the get-go.

For the story, there is none, at least not in Galaxy Angel itself. It's supposed to be about finding lost technology, but instead becomes a show about doing missions in this sci-fi realized world, which isn't exactly realized well because nothing is explained to us. The vague story line and the vague world up-bringing end up working entirely well though, because the show isn't serious at all, those things just aren't important. Galaxy Angel is all about mindless fun and being in wild situations.

The OP and ED used for Galaxy Angel is real good too, they essentially tell you about the show through the music that is used. Peppy, cheerful and extra cute. Doki Doki ~

If you're looking for a slice of life show with a cute cast and an environment that isn't a school, you may find Galaxy Angel to be what you're trying to find.
