Evangelion Movie 3: Q

I thought I'd review this sucker since I am fairly new to the series and do not have any nostalgia glasses on. So I'm pretty unbiased.

I have completed watching the entire original anime, end of the evangelion and first two rebuilds. Hope you did too. After being used to the entire set up of all of the previous works, this movie was kind of like a cold fish thrown at my face.

It is a very different environment, ambiance and mood. Change isn't always bad but in this case, it made this film much weaker than the first two rebuilds.

STORY: Let me just say ... that I am a blessed one to not have waited years for this movie to be released because it was a large let down story wise. Weak explanations for things that are extremely essential and plot holes left and right... and a new futuristic setting... just not feeling it. Rated: 4

ART: I rated this one a 7 because although the art is good, it is a tad bit inconsistent to the other rebuilds (this is most likely on purpose but I'd prefer them to be a uniform looking set) and to be honest the eyes look a little too far apart than for my personal liking.

SOUND: 10. The music is beautiful, it always is, not much else to say about that.

CHARACTER: I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the asuka and mari duo. Kaworu, even with a whole movie instead of a single episode, still struggles to stir up any emotion in me. Rei, why develop a character so richly and then skip back to square one towards the end of a series? And the characters that now work for misato... I could care less for. Rated: 6

ENJOYMENT: The famous Kaworu and Shinji pairing would make this a gold mine movie for those who enjoy the two together so if you're into that, then this one will definitely please you. I personally am pretty indifferent towards it and seeing as that was prominent part of the film I rate this a 7. Plus some of the plot points are just torturous and not the least enjoyable. Like wHAT is going on? Couldn't tell you.

Overall: I give this a 7. It was good. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't nearly as good as the anime, EOE and other rebuilds.

Now here on Blu-Ray in surprisingly fast (read: reasonable) time, compared to its previous installments, Eva 3.33 is finally out and is probably the most divisive thing that Hideaki Anno will release. This division, which will certainly lean towards being mixed and outright negative and disappointed, is more because of expectations, rather than its flaws. Expect to be thrown in a loop and being unfairly led on watching Eva 3.33. Though it is flawed-the Eva franchise is one that is endearingly flawed at its core. These expectations are because of one watching the show. But nobody would care about this movie if the TV anime ... was not watched beforehand. But watching it should also make one expect a high and increasing obtuseness towards its end like its original series.

The main criticism is that the film generally resolves nothing, obscuring everything, only to leave even more questions at film’s end, which are not answered in typical Eva fashion. This is exacerbated by how Eva 1.11 and 2.22’s previous tonalities-bombastic, straight-forward, streamlined and considerably more upbeat-are now inverted. The information revealed in the movie are things that the general Eva audience already know, but Shinji does not. Rei being a Yui clone for example. These facts finally being explicitly stated in and series and to Shinji contributes to his character development, leading Shinji to the same mentally broken state that he was in towards the end of the TV show and in the End of Evangelion.

You Can (Not) Redo is not really a film in a sense. It acts primarily, for better or worse, as an interlude to the tetralogy’s finale [1]. It also externals the angst found in the anime. Set 14 years after Shinji nearly caused Third Impact, he awakes to find his friends and coworkers giving him an extremely cold reception, due to nearly killing them all and hurling them towards 14 years of war as compensation. NERV is revealed to actually wanted to cause Third Impact, and so Misato splits off, creating WILLE to stop them.

The color red is quite predominant throughout the film, further highlighting a post(-post-)apocalypse. The world is a sea blood that cannot be cleansed, yet attempted to be cleansed regardless; everything points to the Instrumentality Project being carried out. LCL was also change to red in this series, further hinting at the chaos to come. Redo heavily framed things through Shinji perception, greatly highlighting his immaturity and mirroring how the audience is left in the dark, like he is. That utter confusion and anger many will feel after seeing this movie is what Shinji feels-totally out of his element-thrown into something that does not make sense. The resentment that Misato et al treat Shinji with mirrors his own self-loathing and guilt. Yet, there are still small remnants of affection and caring shown to him. The coldness was not so wrong, as the truth (mostly) gets revealed to him anyways, and he does not handle it so well. It is likely that they predicted the he would react that way, and sending the trigger for the end of the world is obviously not a good idea.

You Can (Not) Redo is truly an apt title. The spear piercing Unit 01 in the end of the second film not only stopped Third Impact, but also eradicated all of the momentum of the previous films. Before they were doppelgangers and must be scrapped. A jarring, stronger change is needed and inevitable. Shinji, still running away, tries to end the world again only to rebuild it as it 14 years ago. But the world itself is not causing him and everyone around him pain, the general inability to truly push forward is. From Gendo’s plan to bring back Yui, to Shinji using Eva as a figurative time machine, to Misato et al not looking past Shinji’s immaturity... All of Eva's characters are living in and trapped in the past. This is why Shinji become so adamant on retrieving the lances, despite Kaworu’s sudden protests; he is desperate to change things to the way they were before-where he was accepted. There is still a cyclical theme here [2]. At lot of the movie seems to feel oddly referential. The timeskip illustrates the lack of undoing and change. That is the “curse of Eva,” despite the large amount of time passed, nobody has seemed to age and the world is just as on the brink of destruction at is was 14 years ago. It is most obvious with the pilots that are closest to Eva, particularly Asuka, who does not age at all despite her age doubling.

At the end of the movie, all of the pilots are together on a reddened landscape, forced to head to where the Lillum are. Shinji has broken down again, like in last few episodes of the anime and End of Eva, and Asuka has that same loving disgust for him she had in End of Eva. Yet now, it is with a colder, more mothering tone. Eva thrusts itself into a drastic unknown, setting its finale up and so in that respect, it is particularly hard to judge the movie because it appears to be inextricably linked to its unrealized finale, and so its final reception depends heavily on how Eva 4.0 is received. It also places high expectations on the finale, but I feel that they will be met.

Secondly, I'm quiet sorry EVA that it took me 4 years to watch you due to unsatisfied reviews that came upon you.
Thirdly, thanks a lot for this masterpiece.

Here's what is important to understand when watching any of the EVAs. It is not the storytelling that is displayed for the viewvers; it is however the subliminal messages that are told. And the most important one that was displayed seems to be missed by most of us.

The major message in 3.0 was to display what happenes to us when we get stuck in our heads and refuse to move on with our ... lives. "You can (not) redo the past or who you are and what we've done or the things we miss the most. What is important is accepting yourself, letting go and keep moving forward.
Everything we see in 3.0 happens in the head of Shinji. His battling and attempts to save himself. And he believes he can save himself by saving others, where in fact you can only help others help themselves, but the rest has to be done ourselves. In fact we are told that everything happens 14 years after he became on with eva. Which holds two meanings on display: 1) Even though it has past 14 years since the tv-series and the movies, nothing truly changed. We are still humnas fighting our own battles and struggles in the mysterious universe. 2) Nothing we see in 3.0 seems to be real. We know that Neon Genesis ended on the note that Shinji didnt make a perfect world as his father dreamed of or he himself wished for. In fact he accepted the things the are ment to be and decided to step into the world with a fresh prespective; the one, in which he doesnt have to believe anymore that he is alone. In fact, he is loved and loves others. If that was the true ending of our beloved show, in that case everything that we see in 3.0 is still the same battle we saw Shinji going through in his mind in Neon Genesis, just from different prespective. Fresh prespective for the people who grew up on this show, yet the same MESSAGE. The way they did it, was surprisigly equally unique yet different to what we had experienced before. The fact that Shinji's world gets worse everytime he thinks he finnaly gets to be the hero he wants to be and saves everyone he loves; and the fact that writers managed to show us neverending struggles he is going through in his little world, deserves an Award for creativity. However, it is us, teh veiwers that are questioned to waht extent we are ready to close down in order to run away from problems. Im truly surprised that viewers missed the fact that the whole movie was adressed to us. We are simply told, the longer we run away from our issues the less realistic our world becomes and the more we start to shut down in ourselves. Just like waht happens to Shinji, as his world becomes more and more inconsistent adn unrealistic as he fails to face his own demons.

Sorry for the bad English, and hopefully my review helped you guys to clarify the confusion 3.0 created. To be honest, thats my frist and probably last review as me supaaaaalazyyyy. I felt a huge need to write one as the reviews below unjustify a masterpiece that it is.

Evangelion. Still the best of his own and definitely immortal in time.

No more waiting for the movie because I recognize that Rebuild of Evangelion is not the object of my devotion though, if they want to take what follows as a weakness of the writer, I'm very happy that Q is no longer near the canon of the TV series as far as one when they flee in a patient with leprosy.

"Evangelion 3.33 was not what I see?" The question never crossed my mind, speaking of Hideaki Anno, a man who broke his word although never to touch his magnum opus, the result was something many did not expect, at least not in the conditions predicted ... my American peers.

This "escape the circle" of everything we could assume it was canceled before the Khara Studio presentóm precisely because we left the canon of the television series and primersa películsa (something that did not look clear in 1.11 and 2.22) define my position as something I expected for this new saga STILL UNFINISHED.

Although the end of this adventure will be sometime in 2015, I dare to make a bold statement: I'll bet my ridiculous salary to ensure that features two of the most famous doujinshi franchise helped to build the end of 2.22 and we saw in 3.33.

Coming off the masterpiece that was Evangelion 2.2, Hideaki Anno decided to make Shinji Ikari's life a living hell, and that's exactly what Evangelion 3.3: You Can (Not) Redo is about. Shinji's life turned into a living nightmare.

After being out of action for 14 years, Shinji is awakened and finds out that Asuka is indeed alive, Rei is still nowhere to be found and Misato blames him for everything that happened to activate Third Impact, which was stopped by a new organization called WILLE (I know what you're thinking, and no, stop being lewd) led by the former employees of NERV, Ritsuko and Captain Misato ... Katsuragi that is bent on destroying NERV. Now (unless I missed it) please don't ask why, no one quiet knows the reason. Though now Shinji is forbidden to pilot Eva Unit 1, and this is where he meets Kowaru (you may remember him as a certain 5th child) and he tells Shinji that he almost screwed everything up and now NERV wants to eliminate all life on earth. Shinji is destined to make everything right, only he now knows that not even God is on his side...

This movie was negatively received by the Japanese audience and yet I understand their feelings for this film, though you must understand that this is only the stepping stone to Eva 4.0 and therefore it was not going to be what most people expected. While I trust Anno to deliver the goods in the final installment, I did not expect much from this film and that's what I got - not much. The final battle is both chilling and frightening at the same time and it will leave you wanting more, but sadly, that will not happen until 2014.

Jebus gives Evangelion 3.3 - You Can (Not) Redo: 3 Rei clones out of 5.

"Wow." You know when to say this word when you are actually watching an anime or reading a manga. And this is my true thoughts about Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.

Basically this movie is the sequel of Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance which occurred 14 years after the Third Impact. Well, our main character Shinji just woke up after fourteen years and have to dealt his current situation where everyone despise him. Befriending Kaworu Nagisa, he still have the chance to save the world from the next impact.

Time skip is literally annoying for some anime. In this movie, you will be confused what ... the heck happened the past 14 years and why people whom Shinji protected from Angels betrayed him and why Rei didn't knew that he saves her from the last movie. The story is very good because you will wonder what did happened? 8/10

The animation is still solid and more improved in this film. The use of 3D animation is pretty good here and for dark animes, the dark scenes are good and the fighting scenes are pretty epic. But the scene that stood out for me here is the piano scene, the scenery is pretty relaxing to here. 10/10

The use of recyclable sounds from the original series here is noticeable. I thought that the sounds are pretty good here. The ED song by Hikaru Utada is relaxing to hear. And for the voicing acting, Maaya Sakamoto did a great job for voicing Mari. 9/10

The characters. I'll not spoil a lot about the characters but I'll just say one thing, most of them changed expect Shinji, Kaworu and Mari. I nearly hated Misato, Asuka and Rei here to be honest. Those three were shoehorned and making you wonder 'why?'. But Asuka is an exception because she became a total baddass here and I also think that she still linger feelings for Shinji as much what 2.0 hinted about her. And yes, I was reminded that those three became secondary characters so I hope they will have big role in the final movie especially Mari and Asuka.

Shinji is still same but actually he kinda grew up in this film. But Kaworu, I still love his character but I wish they explored more about his character because I love his bond with Shinji (although it was kinda gay at some points). 7/10

Overall, Evangelion 3.0 is pretty enjoyable characters. You'll be at the verge of liking it or hating it and truly, Evangelion (and NGE as well) is a masterpiece. 8/10

And please excuse me while I'm having some serious mental breakdown here.

Where do I even start with this? Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo is such a oddity that it's nearly impossible to truly review it. Less of a sequel and more of a complete overhaul, it ditches any attempt to be a recreation of the original series and goes straight into brand new territory. However, I think nobody was expecting this.

3.0 is a massive what the fuck fest in the best possible way - completely subverting your expectations to deliver what is essentially a borderline quiet character drama wrapped up in intense, beautifully choreographed action. More so then any other film in this series, this ... is the most Evangelion that Evangelion has been in years.

Shinji Ikari (Megumi Ogata) wakes up to a changed world - 14 years have passed, NERV has disbanded, and the remaining members have formed WILLE, a organization dedicated to wiping out the last of NERV. With everybody now against him, Shinji joins up with Kaworu Nagisa (Akira Ishida/Jerry Jewell) in order to fix the world that he caused.

The biggest strength of 3.0 is it's ability to make you empathize with the protagonist. Putting both it's main lead and the audience in the middle of the story with no real explanation, we learn as little as we can similar to Shinji. It's uniformly both genius but also extremely frustrating, then again this is normal for Evangelion. This empathy for our protagonist gives the film it's strong emotional hook, which is what carries it throughout.

The main thrust of the film, which is the complicated and deep friendship between Shinji and Kaworu, works thematically well here - you buy their relationship, and it's one of the few things that has been very obviously vastly improved upon from the original series. The double meaning nature of the title, similar to the first two films, is very relevant here, but in a much darker context. By wishing to fix what he has caused, Shinji realizes he can't - he has to live with what he has caused. 3.0 is not a happy film - it's probably the darkest Eva has gotten in a long, long time and while it may be to everyone's taste it's refreshing to see a series take massive chances.

3.0 is a visually stunning film - it's one that lets it's visuals do the talking half the time, and it's all the better for it. The apocalyptic landscapes are nothing short of both horrific and gorgeous, and the Eva fights are breathtaking to watch. The attention to detail in particular is well worth mentioning. No corner left untouched, this is one of the best looking anime films ever made and a great example of the anime medium.

Voice performances across the board are amazing, as per average of the franchise. Thrust into the lead role with ease, Megumi Ogata proves that she is one of the best seiyuus in the business. Akira Ishida, in his expanded role as Kaworu, is routinely excellent, and his constantly shifting nature is portrayed extremely well here. The English dub, which went through several delays due to production issues, thankfully stands up quite well, with Spike Spencer in particular standing out as the obvious best performance. Overall, Evangelion continues it's strong suite of amazing voiceover roles.

Shiro Sagisu's score is almost 100% new material this time around, and it's almost entirely choir based tracks. And while they can be mildly distracting (especially during the talkier segments), they are amazing pieces nevertheless, and rank among the best of his work. Also the return of Beethoven's Ode to Joy is much appreciated.

A return to form for the more existential aspects of the series, Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo is not gonna please everyone due to a purposefully frustrating narrative, but for those who dig deep, it's a rewarding experience that warrants multiple viewings, compounded by gorgeous animation and amazing music.

I give Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo a 9 out of 10.

forgoing philosophical musings and deep character introspection for pure, unabashed bombastic spectacle, you can (not) redo is everything this rebuild series was meant to be, and more.

it finally, finally completely diverges from the original series' plot, reusing absolutely nothing sans a few visual callbacks to eoe. it strips a bunch of shit that makes eva, well, eva in terms of what to expect (e.g. shinji running away from his problems, turning that on its head and making shinji willingly running towards problems for his own self-satisfaction/purpose), turning everything up to fucking 11 for one of the most gorgeous and pulse-pounding anime films ever put ... to film.

the artwork is absolutely gorgeous, the score is peerless and epic in every single sense of the word, the script is streamlined and slick and clean and doesn't fuddle and stumble around like the previous two rebuild jalopies, the plot introduces more questions than answers and has questions that has nothing to do with the original source material, it has the most breathtaking anime action setpieces i've ever fucking seen (sorry ufotable, maybe make an anno production someday and then we'll talk), the epic nature is merely amplified and accentuated by the liberating 21:9 aspect ratio, and most of all, the film stands spectacularly as its own work, using contextuality and foreknowledge only as subtle nods to appreciate it more rather than a crutch for the plot to hobble along with.

in short, you can (not) redo is the full potential of the rebuild series, basically an eva AU fanfiction with a disgustingly-immense budget for an anime.

it's perfect in what it tries to accomplish, and is a masterpiece in a much, much, much different way than end of evangelion is (whereas this movie is a masterwork of spectacle, subversion of contextualized expectation (just like the last jedi but that's ANOTHER can of worms), end of evangelion is pretty much a transcendent philosophical thinkpiece with deep, deep characters used as a canvas, utterly unmatched and peerless in its esoteric depth).

basically, the first two rebuilds are pretty much shit in comparison and wholly unnecessary; they should have been condensed to a miniseries or even a 20 minute prologue, because THIS film, this is the real shit.

you can (not) redo is the DEFINITIVE rebuild until the Second Coming of Christ, when we can finally see what 3.0+1.0 has in store.

I've seen that a lot of people don't like this movie, and personally I can understand it, some of the points are:

- It's more centered in the action that it's in the psychology of the characters.

And yes, I can see why people are pissed because of this. Evangelion always centered the things and dialogs in the characters more than in action.

Nonetheless, just because there's more action it doesn't mean that it doesn't take some development.

In this new movie, we can see a stronger bond in Kaworu and Shinji, I've heard that some people think that this bond is poorly executed because it seems like a ... bad Fanfic work, but honestly I don't think so, it's a little more developed that it was during the original series, with new metaphorical phrases and a somewhat familiar angle from Kaworu, and the contrast between the knowledge of both characters shows you that something big has been hidden from Shinji.

Which comes to the next point.

- No need for a 14-year skip.

This might be true but if the movie developed right after the second movie, let's be honest, at some point Shinji had to know about what happened, and it would have to be double work and it would be more boring if we already know the things that are going to affect Shinji. This skip I think is a good thing because it shows us the confusion of Shinji in this new post-apocalyptic world with the same incertitude of the protagonist. Which leads us to the next point.

- Everyone's a dick to Shinji.

And while I can't completely understand it I get an idea: How would you feel if the person that send the world to the toilet just to try to save someone he loved and pretty much destroyed everything at its pace woke up not knowing what he did. And not only that, not that much caring about the world but caring only about that other person... You would think that the person is egocentric, right?

"Oh but he didn't cause the Third Impact". No, it was a Near-Third Impact, and let me tell you about the "Eye of the Storm", you see, in a natural event that has a circular effect, the "Eye of the Storm" is relatively calm, while in the exterior it's pretty much the opposite, I think this is what happened with the Near-Third Impact. And while this might not be true, remember that Gendou apparently did some other things (implied in the Kaworu's final conclusion) in order to get what he wanted, probably causing that and blaming Shinji for it so that everything would be in his plans, but this is just mere speculation.

- This movie gives you more questions than answers.

Yes, this is true, but I think this is what a good pre-movie does, it shows you the world and what happened and how things are in order to have a better conclusion. While this movie lacks a proper conclusion you could say, there's an emblematic fight between the kids, yes, all of them, at least in the Rebuild Time-line, that honestly I think it's pretty good.

- This movie doesn't tell you shit

Ok, being completely honest, when has Evangelion been explicit in things? Is really ambiguous at least in the original series and in this movie they slow-down a bit, but with the idea of Showing things to people, not Telling them what happened. And this could also be good because it lets you imagine what happened or what's going to happen next.

Look, if you don't like to be shocked by the things happening, or that things are not explained to you objectivly, you're not going to enjoy this movie. But personally, this is what I love about this movie and what I love from Evangelion, is ambigouse in a good way, and lets you form your own interpretations about it, while they're accurate to the universe. And I think this movie rejected a lot of the theoris that a lot of fans had and that's why they didn't like it.

Rebuild 3.0 is a giant curveball to the Evangelion franchise. Everyone knew the rebuilds would take on a different direction, but nobody could anticipate the complete tonal and narrative shift that occurs in this film. It’s jarring, baffling, and also the most fun I’ve had watching Evangelion.

Halfway through the first act of the film, I wondered, “Am I watching Eva right now?” Then I wondered, “Did they change directors?” They didn’t, but the radical change in animation, aesthetic, pacing, direction, and story surely conveyed that feeling. Animation-wise, this film is the best-looking by far. There are multiple impressive action sequences, and the use of 3D ... animation allowed some fluid camera movements to become possible. The art style remains consistent with the rest of the rebuilds; however, many new character designs seem out of place with the rest of the series.

Despite still retaining the same writer, Eva 3.0 brings a new energy to the franchise. This film is focused more on developing a singular, compelling story rather than retelling the old ones. The previous rebuilds spent much of its runtime acting as a recap, which restrained and crippled the writing heavily. Eva 3.0 follows a more traditional story structure with a clear direction in mind, unlike its meandering predecessors. For once, there’s a compelling thread that pulls one scene to the next. This straightforward manner of storytelling is entertaining and compelling, but the series’ signature direction takes a hit in the process.

Aside from the bizarre and dark imagery, there’s little left of Hideaki Anno’s touch. Tonally, Eva 3.0 is a complete left-turn, and nothing that shouts “EVANGELION!” can be found. The quirky and experimental feel of the show is replaced by something more standard and more action-oriented. This film, overall, feels like a glitch in the Matrix.

The story is a giant leap of faith. The rift between NERV and WILLE is an interesting premise, yet far-fetched in its execution. The heart of the story, the relationship between Shinji and Kaworu, never sat right with me (even in the show), and it isn’t any better here either. Not mentioning the ridiculous piano scenes, Shinji’s affinity for Kaworu specifically is always assumed, but never explained. The audience must buy their relationship for the story’s sake, and unfortunately, I don’t. It just doesn’t seem to be in Shinji’s nature to befriend and enjoy spending time with another person out of the blue. Shinji’s signature sullenness isn’t seen here as much, which, to me, is a blessing. Aside from that, Eva 3.0 does create many unanswered questions, but it’s not any more confusing than the show in its later stages.

After finishing this film, Eva 4.0 may as well take the series in any direction it wants. It threw out the previous two movies and became a beast of its own. While it’s certainly more entertaining, the story and direction suffer. New content isn’t a bad thing for the series. If I wanted to watch Evangelion again, then the show is available for that. But what Eva 3.0 brings to the table feels more like a spin-off than anything.

This is not the NGE of the 90s. That is the singular most difficult thing for people to comprehend for whatever reason. NGE is 24 years old, things change and evolve. Stop comparing them.

With 3.0, Anno and co go in a completely different direction including a timeskip. Personally for me, I enjoyed this film a lot. It is quite different and gives off a Mass Effect vibe, but I appreciate that they tried something different with it. The art, animation, sound and overall vibe of the film is great. The timeskip adds drama and conflict to the plot and I enjoy that. Seeing how much ... Asuka has grown while also staying the same is great. Misato has also grown a lot, but also remained the same. Going back to the old adage, the more things, the more they stay the same.

My dislikes include the following: The timeskip, while I used this as a pro at the beginning, it also has negative side effects, such as the fact we don't see anything of what happened in the prior 14 years. How did Shinji become incapacitated, how did they stop the third impact? What caused the rift between NERV and WILLE? What happened to SEELE? What happened to humanity? Idk if this was to give us the same feeling that Shinji has or what.

I also dislike how Shinji's efforts to save Rei were in vain and he loses the girl he clearly loves. There's some sign that old Rei could potentially come back or at least her memories, but for now, it is disheartening. Despite popular opinion, I prefer the rebuilds to the OG series and love the fights, action and new take on a classic series. Like Star Wars, there will be old purists who can't stand it, but I for one am pumped for 3.0+1.0 next year.

It is happening that as I see the movies I am liking them more. I also like to think that let's say there are two endings for the saga, which would be the next movie that I haven't seen yet and the end of the series. The very good anime presents my favorite character who is Shinji's friend but he is a great guy, he already knows how everything is going to end and he also sacrifices himself. I like it a lot, how in the series she appears little but it shows that she is a real support character, not like the other girls. ... SEE THE FUCKING MOVIE. Every movie gets better.

El anime muy bueno presente a mi personaje favorito que es el amigo de shinji pero es un tipazo el ya sabe como va terminar todo y igualmente se sacrifica. Me gusta mucho es como en la serie aparece poco pero se nota que es un personaje de apoyo de verdad no como las otras chicas. VEAN LA PUTA PELICULA. Cada película se pone mejor la cosa.

So far did not like the reboot series as much as the original. I'll be honest I was going into the movies with high expectations but have been somewhat let-down. Still, that did not let me affect the scoring for these movies.

For one thing, this movie has a lot going on in it. A lot of chaos really. While the original series had a more conservative approach with what it introduced and what happened, this movie really did just shoot everything it had.

The Story: This picked up right after 2.0, and the 3rd impact. The main objective is to try to stop the 4th impact ... near the end. We also get introduced to what was the 13th angel in the series and here, yet befriends Shinji. Honestly, it has quite a lot going for it but what really shocked me is the 13-year time jump between the 3rd impact and Shinji waking up. That and the fact that he cannot hang out with his old gang Misato and Asuka.

Animation: Ok well the animation is definitely better than the original series. It was okay-ish animation it shows its age and I do see some slopiness but to be fair I am spoiled with modern-day beautiful animation. Maybe a 6/10 for it.

The music: The background music was okay.

Why you should watch it: Well, to watch 3.0 + 1.0 obviously :D Just kidding. In all seriousness, if you liked the premise of Neon Genesis Evangelion, I think the reboot is worth the watch.

The beginning of this movie was complete arse if I'm being honest. I had no idea what the fuck was going on, since the whole cast you know and love experienced a 14-year timeskip that changed their characters (I'm looking at you Misato).

The closer it got to the end, the more I did enjoy the movie though. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Asuka in beast-eva-mode (wich is my new fetish I guess). But I was highly dissapointed with Mari and Rei, since Mari is the most unnessecary character in this movie and Rei only has 2 lines to say ("I don't know" and ... "That's an order").

Since Mari was my new favourite character from this series after seeing 2.0, again, I was really dissapointed with her. She only says some 1-liners and does some minor actions that have 0 impact on anything. Even when the 4th fucking impact is happening she's just chilling and slurping some juice while Asuka and Misato's crew are putting their lives on the line to stop it.

Kaworu was our old Kaworu as we know him, nothing against him. He's probably the best part of this movie if you ask me, for that reason only. Funny how he reminded me of Your Lie in April.

The action scenes are what made me give it a 7, since the story was kinda 'eh' compared to the other 2 movies. I expected a bit more.

I really hope 3.0+1.0 has some more cool beast-eva scenes, and I'm looking forward to it. Imo, this movie is the worst one of the (soon-)tetralogy.

edit: this was a 6 at first, but I can't keep myself from rewatching the final 15 minutes of this movie. It's epic as fuck. I changed my score to a 7.

This is 3rd movie in the rebuild series, however it seems that this movies follows an entirely different universe from the previous movies. First the 2.0 movie ended with Eva unit 1 going berserk, but 3.0 follows up 14 years later...

So of course during that amount of time some important events happen, but none of those events are reveled to us. Asuka and a bunch of other original Nerv employees now work for Steele to destroy Nerv. 6th eva unit turns out to be an angel. Kaworu shows up but doesn't influence the story at all. Most of ... the movie just shows Shinji being a confused whimp again. Ayanami is a soulless person again.
In simpler terms: inconsistent story, Shinji being a wimp, bunch of new characters with no impact to the story. Lots of character rework on original characters.
you know what i don't think i can explain all the problems with this movie. Go watches yourself.
If you don't what to notice the problems then don't pay any attention to the story and just watch the action :P

Compared to the original anime, this movie spends a lot more time showing the relationship between Shinji and Kaworu. For all that extra time, though, it doesn't really add any depth.

See, the original series was effectively written and managed to convey everything that needed conveying there in the span of twenty-three minutes. The two kids didn't need to play piano together for a half hour - it was them staring at the ceiling and talking that really mattered.

Despite Rebuild having a shorter total length than Eva Classic, this movie feels kind of bloated in general. I still hold up Evangelion's fight scenes as the best ... I've seen in any anime. Mainly because they were brutal, visceral and impactful. The early action sequences in this are a mess of over-the-top effects and completely failed to grab me. I will give it that the later stuff is better, though. Still over the top, but in a more creative, disturbing way.

Rebuild as a whole is weird. 1.0 was basically a shot-for-shot remake of the first six episodes of Evangelion, and then two films later we have this. A massive, radical departure from the original plot. The whole enterprise ends up in an awkward position where it's sort of hard to recommend to someone who's seen the original.

But for all the plot differences, it still makes the same points as the original and has a lot of the same story beats. The confusing nightmare of Rei's existance, Shinji's mounting alienation from everyone around him, the crushing trauma that is the end of Shinji's relationship with Kaworu - it's all there. I can only think of one thing it got really wrong and it's a spoiler. Evangelion 3.0 is something new that nonetheless retains the spirit and identity of the original. And that's worth applauding.

But it doesn't add any depth, drops some in places, and isn't as exciting as the original. While it's something new, it has to be noted that it's something worse. It's lucky there was a long way down to go.

okay so before I start the review, let me warn anyone that hasn't seen this movie: there WILL be spoilers, I can't talk about this movie without spoiling the fuck about it, so there is your warning

Evangelion 3.0 is probably the most divisive thing to come out of the Evangelion series. The reaction to this movie was mixed at best. Now, what camp do I fall in? Both. I haven't felt this way about an anime in a LONG time, as I have a strong love-hate relationship with this movie. I think alot of the good parts of this movie are some of ... the best things to come out of Evangelion, hell maybe even anime in general, but then I really REALLY don't like the bad stuff.

I will now talk about the stuff I liked in this movie
- Shinji and Kaworu's relationship was fucking incredible, by far the best part about the movie. Each interaction with them felt like something completely different from the last, you really get a sense as who these two are as people and Kaworu's death scene: holy shit. Kaworu is in general handled here even better than in the original series, where he was already handled really well. His outlook on the world is so fascinating if you ask me he's by FAR the most interesting character in this series. Shinji is also really good in this movie, but I do have problems with the way the other characters treat him, but that will come later. I really liked the ending, it just felt very conclusive for the story. The animation looks pretty good, but there are some stylistic choices I don't like, but that's more of a thing with these rebuild movies as a whole. I like the scene where Shinji basically goes nuts when he finds out he didn't save rei. I guess askua is pretty decent even tho she does some shitty things in this movie. I like what they did with rei at the end of the movie. Misato is awesome, I love the new aesthetic they gave her shes fucking badass. And finally, the sound design is clean

I will now talk about the stuff I didn't like in this movie
- Now ill start off with a complaint that I have that I don't have with the other Evangelion film she appears in, I fucking hate Makinami in this movie, she's just out of place fanservice and being the sorta "funny person" at the thematically wrong time, she's way better in 2.0 but I won't get into that here. Like I said earlier the animation in this movie is pretty good but god damn some of the charter designs are either mediocre or suck ass. I think the story could have used alot more of the rebels, or whatever the fuck Misato calls the anti-NERV thing, they only appear in the first 30 minutes and in the final fight, that's about it, I think to make the movie a bit longer an adding that extra time to seeing what those guys are up to you would have been cool. Rei is an extremely flat emotionless character, and while I did say I liked what they did with her at the end, eh she just felt like a plot device for most of the movie. I brought this up earlier in the review, but Shinji gets shit on so much I feel so bad for him. The only person that he has a good relationship with fucking dies and nobody understands the amount of shit he's been through. Yes, Shinji is FAR from a perfect person: but he's just a kid. the amount of pressure and pain that gets put on him is beyond imaginable, and it annoyed me when Makinami talks fucking down to him as if she's been through nearly as much shit as Shinji did, and the movie doesn't treat this as a bad thing either so its just fucking annoying. Okay I promise this is the last thing I'm gonna whine about: RITSUKO'S HAIR CUT IS WACK AS HELL WTF DID THEY DO TO HER MY GOD

A summary of my thoughts: I think overall, at least right now, I like this movie. I know the stuff I didn't like section was longer than the stuff I did like but the good stuff in this movie is that good and I elaborated on my issues more in that issues and talked more about them because I have more to say. Overall I'm still part of that 3.0+1.0 hype-train so I guess that says something.

Very out there, to say the least. From what I've seen the majority of the internet seems to really dislike this film, very much see it as a black sheep of the neon genesis franchise. Honestly for all of the movie's flaws, it's super interesting and fresh. I like Anno's approach on this movie, and I wouldn't have liked to see a rehash of the original, which seemed to be where Anno was headed with 2.0

Anyways the story and lore was kind of thrown out, similar to ep 25 and 26 of the original series, and whilst there was less psychological monologue the film is ... centered on Shinji's psyche and puts you in his shoes. You only know as much of this new world as he does. A lot of the lore and story seem to be setting up for some big reveals in the next film, and this anti-climax probably would have been fine if Anno's original idea of airing the movies back to back would have happened.

Man was I disappointed. I love Evangelion, it is one of my favorite anime. I LOVE IT TO DEATH. But when Evangelion 3.0 came out, I was devastated. I guess my hopes were too high. I understand that 3.0 was just setting the stages up for 4.0 but they could have done it much better in my opinion.

Anyways the story is a mess. A complete mess. Anyone who tries to argue here is completely insane. As a huge fan of Eva, even I could not handle such dramatic change.

Character development was there ... but not very significant.

The sound was amazing.Absolutely fantastic.

Art was decent.

Overall, I enjoyed it and gave it an 8. I hope Evangelion 4.0 is better.

Ohh my God!!! 1+1/2h of confusing WTF-fighting scenes, shinji sitting in a hall playing piano or playing shogi, Kaworu's Shone-ai shit that makes you wanna puke and a visual NGE Ep. 25/26 like drugtrip.
Oh yeah there was a twist that no one expected and that is the time skip.
All in all this is an ordinary Eva-movie that makes you really excited for movie 4 but still gives you a feeling of satisfaction because you get some answers that you needed in NGE.
But i still don't like it because i can't stop wondering how they fucked such an awesome concept. Maybe i will like it ... one day..........should try rewatching it. Could get better, at least i hope so.

Good for fans, bad for all the others ( go by my advice above)
