Shiyan Pin Jiating (Frankenstein Family)

Tanis, a child genius, is the youngest son of two mad scientists. His family has spent their lives withdrawn from normal society living on an isolated island, where the couple conducts experiments on Tanis' siblings that result in them gaining abnormal abilities. However, this activity is put to a stop when they are caught and arrested.

Tanis is brought by government officials to a more populated island, alongside his four siblings: Snow, a dog-human hybrid; Ashise, a plant-human hybrid; Aisley, a spider-human hybrid; and Suishi, a mind-reader. Being the only one who has not been genetically modified, Tanis takes on the responsibility of adapting his siblings to society, all while trying to conceal their' distinctive characteristics.

Background

Shiyan Pin Jiating, also know as The Frankenstein Family, is based on the ongoing manhua series (Chinese manga) of the same name, created by Yanai, a manhuajia from Hong Kong. The series is published by Sun Comics (Rigeng Jihua), who also collaborated with Tencent Penguin Pictures and Phoenix Animation (Dahuoniao Donghua) on the anime adaptation.

In an added segment in the original manhua, creator Yanai states that the ideas for the characters originated from a group drawing project in middle school, which he then further refined.

There is currently no North American company licensed to carry this production.

Okay so if you're like me and watched this on Crunchyroll I can understand why you may not like this show. The beginning had a recap that lasted like 15 minutes, and at the end they would have like a whole segment with real live people that I couldn't figure out what or why?

Story: 8. I thought the premise was intriguing. A slice of life dealing with experiments trying to live on their own with the humans. Definitely had potential. I wish they did more with it but I did like seeing what they'd get into each episode so it wasn't that bad. The ending felt so mean spirited. So depressiong

Concept: good
Execution: absolutely terrible

The first four episodes are full length and actually pretty good. They get you hooked into a story with what looks to be an overarching plot. Then it takes a complete 180, the episodes drop to 12 minutes or less after intro/recap and the other half of the 23 minutes are live action interviews with the voice actors talking about random stuff. I wouldn't have minded this as much if the story didn't feel like it suffered from it.
