Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

I really liked it at first, but the more I watch it, the more that the laziness of the MC gets on my nerves. To the point where I can guess why "he doesn't want to do something", or "avoids certain situations" because "effort", something he has none of. I know that people really like this show and I could see why, but for me, as a person who loves slice of life more than any other genre, which is odd considering this is exactly that, just can't enjoy it anymore.

The art and sound? I don't even care about sound, I'll give it ... the same as art I guess, but the art is good, simple and peaceful, all the characters look very cute and innocent. And I like how the layout and style of the school is different and unique so thats nice.

I really like the characters (some), mainly the side characters, if Tanaka wasn't even in the show, I would definitely enjoy it much more, though it wouldn't be as unique, it would be less annoying. I can think of other SoL anime with better lazy or "laid back" characters. (ahem Lucky Star's Konata, Ore Monogatari's Suna, Wagnaria's Yamada for laziness is much funnier IMO, and then the king of not wanting to get involved and much cooler is the 8man.)

I'm still thinking of whether to pick it back up, especially if it means meeting the little sisters, but at the moment, every episode seems like a montage of "I dont feel like doing these normal things" and pure laziness, which isn't for me. I've talked with others about it, most don't agree and like this show, I'm not sure why but i don't really care tbh. I hope that most don't agree actually, it will be nice to see someone with a different opinion on it I suppose, and this is all how I honestly feel about it.


[Possible spoilers] there's some hinted romance at some points and it feels very rushed and lazy in my opinion, in fact one of them gets teased and pretty much shown to the point of me and others thinking it was actually happening and then forgotten about and thrown out the window at one point, which is mainly why I dropped it.

I really don't know how this got a high rating
I just watched the first two episodes and I was bored out of my mind
The whole first episode was presented in that same bland tone that I wanted to drop the series then and there.
For people who have the time and ability to endure the blandess of the first couple of episodes then they "might" see some improvement, but I can't; I fell asleep halfway through the second episode

The character design is not really unique, the background scenery is alright I guess, the animation is average, there are really long awkward silences that pop up ... a couple of times in one episode, and the sound effects are really what set the mood in a scene as the character expressions are non-existent

Meh, it's cute at times, but that's about it
This anime falls in the category of most difficult to review, 'cause it's simply, just, plain average

There is a very fine line between subtlety and total lack of impact
And the attempt of this series to be cute and fun in a subtle way fall in the latter

The animation/artstyle is average
The script is average
... The MC is average and a total bore

Yes Tanaka-kun is always listless, well guess what? Listless does not make for an interesting MC
Unless you have something compelling and/or mysterious to back up why the MC is like that, or have the show be carried by a unique or extravagant surrounding, you're just gonna end up with the most mundane snoozefest
It's as if someone dragged out a random background character with no lines and told them to lead the show, unfortunately for the every Tom, Dick, and Harry, 99.9% of the time that simply does not work

Oh, and this is all just from ep. 1, 'cause after that, with the introduction of Miyano, things go from average to annoying AF
Moral of the story, propping up the boring MC with the most obnoxiouos side character in the universe is a recipe for disaster

Tanaka kun is Always Listless-and this may surprise you-is a comedy anime with a school setting as if there aren't a ton of garbage out there with the same premise. It's as if the industry that produced so many exciting and thought provocative animes is now a stagnant pool of shit and i blame YOU, the viewers, cause when an interesting anime appears if it hurts your feelings you take to twatter and cry internet tears of despair so we end up with crap like this one.

TIAL is about Tanaka, who is a lazy as fuck student who wants to do nothing but sleep. In ... his quest for total nothingness his loyal comrade Ohta is always there to carry him like those dogs Paris Hilton carries around, you know the ones that look like a dwarf devil with an attitude. Thankfully a petite blonde bitch comes into play and she wants to know all about his dark ways of tantric sex but she quickly finds out that what he does isn't a cult like ceremony into adulthood but he's just a lazy fuck sitting on his ass all day..And she liked that and wanted to be his apprentice triggering a downpoor of whores who wanted to be in his harem as well....LOL!

TIAL does little to go past its' premise and by premise i mean Tanaka doing nothing and being lazy. 12 episodes of a lazy fuck doing lazy shit and when he does his lazy shit he does them with such laziness that i swear my watch almost grinded to a halt. If it wasn't for the secondary characters this show would be dead and gone in mere minutes. Characters like Tanaka’s best friend Ohta, the petite Miyano who follows Tanaka and calls him her master, the all time classic athletic and self proclaimed deliquent Echizen and the perfect student Shiraishi among others...Speaking of others we also meet Rino, Tanaka’s sister....Now remember the harem part i mentioned earlier? Turns out that every female in this anime has feelings at some point for Tanaka...Even his fucking sister! BUT the show is too lazy to do anything even with that aspect and it's bored out of it's mind giving the girls any love so they end up being the same old stereotypes we can watch in every other shit anime these days.

I also mentioned that this is a comedy right? Well depends on how you define comedy to be honest. This has the light feather like comedy style which means the jokes go like this: Tanaka has a conversation with someone the someone is awaiting for his reply but Tanaka has dozed off and never responds..Imagine my shock thinking that Dave Chappelle was a genius comedian only to find out this little gem to enlighten me on the ways of comedy....There were even times where they had to explain to you that what you're seeing was a joke so they had some huge letters to give you the idea...Yeah it's that bad.

Visually it's well done with soft colours and quite decent artwork and i couldn't care less cause even with colourful animation you can't escape the fact that this belongs into the darkest recesses of the abyss..Don't bother looking into tha abyss though it's too lazy to look back at ya.

And that's all i had to say about this anime really. This anime is definitely not for everyone and certainly those past the age of 10. TIAL is sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow even for a SOL and don't get me started on this annoying twat of a main character. I wish this anime would focus on everyone else instead and it would be better off than this simplistic approach and i've seen simplistic anime before but most of them at least made an effort to be something..This wants to be nothing and you should treat it as such.
