Overlord was recommended to me by several friends but it took me a while to get around to finishing it. While I did enjoy the series, it's got a few issues that held it back from being genuinely good.

Let's start with the premise. This one's a mixed bag. It's your standard Isekai light novel adaptation where someone is trapped in a popular MMO with a few key differences. If you are a fan of Dark Fantasy, where the protagonist plays the main role of the "antagonist", then you have found just the right thing here.


The protagonist is teleported to another world while playing his favorite game. Although this world bends to the concepts of a game world, it doesn't seem to be one. Unlike in series like Hack/Sword Art Online, the protagonist is more "Isekaid" than trapped in his game world.

Mixed Feelings
I love Isakai, but not this one. Idk it just didn't sit right. I think that there are not only better anime but even better Isakai to spend your time watching. Regardless I watched the whole thing all seasons up to date and probably will watch the coming movie so make of that what you will. The world-building was good but the characters were lacking and most (if not all) of the fights lacked any emotional weight. *note this applies to the entire anime and is meant to inform people interested in getting into Overlord, as a stand-alone season overlord season one is fine and ...
