Mixed Feelings
Overlord

If you are a fan of Dark Fantasy, where the protagonist plays the main role of the "antagonist", then you have found just the right thing here.

The protagonist is teleported to another world while playing his favorite game. Although this world bends to the concepts of a game world, it doesn't seem to be one. Unlike in series like Hack/Sword Art Online, the protagonist is more "Isekaid" than trapped in his game world.

To make it more interesting, he keeps his status and avatar in the game and merges with them. Thus, he becomes the new undead skeleton king, the "Overlord". His human personality and avatar personality also merge, creating a relatively amusing contrast between a normal guy in fake skin and an overpowered being without empathy.

Compared to most other shows, Overlord uses a similar type of storytelling as "One Punch Man", where the protagonist is mostly in the background and the supporting characters are the center of attention. This allows you to see more of the people in the world, the villagers, their lives, and their problems.

Of course, everything is not as mind-blowing as it sounds. The Anime has almost no qualities apart from the simple Overlord fan service. If you're looking for something different, you definitely won't find anything here, as this story is almost all about one particular group.

[Story 3]

In a different world, the protagonist experiments with his skills is completely overpowered and you only hear stories about how cool he is. And yes, he's relatively cool.

Other than that, this storyline is limited to a similar pattern over and over again. The problems of a clan, species, or kingdom are introduced, built up, and then Ainz solves the problem, depending on whether it's to his advantage or whether he wipes it out.

[Characters 4]

The characters are good for a few laughs or average backgrounds, but that's where it ends. Personalities are very limited to stereotypes and hardly any characters outgrow their NPC pants.

The Guardians of Nazarick are an amusing bunch, but that's about it. Only the design of many characters is respectable.

[Music 8 / Animations 5]

The intro is not to my taste, but fits relatively well with the style of the series, as does the outro in appropriate counter contrast.
The osts are very good, epic, dynamic, and appropriately placed to support the respective scenes well.

Animations are average and occasionally even just below. It is a mid-budget production.

[Score 4]

As stated before, Overlord is simply a story that appeals almost exclusively to a certain group of fans. Not everyone is excited to see a strange supervillain tyrannize the world and spread his own "justice". Likewise, not everyone likes listening to NPC life stories over and over again until it comes to a climax every 6 episodes.

But for anyone who likes that sort of thing (like me), this will definitely be the Anime series they''ve been looking for.
