New Interest Stack
Interest StacksAquaplus/Leaf visual novel adaptations. Bygone days spent as an otaku, often captured in OVA format, have been lost as trends shifted. It’s undeniably melancholic to see the evolving portrayal of otaku in a meta-sense and slowly watching the dwindling importance of Akiba-kei. Anime aired in Spain's TV channels (public or private), listed with the Spanish title. Might be missing some or be messy: I wanted to add the most important but also the less obvious. Excluding most sequels & movies. This is a weird concept for a list, but I think it's worth putting it out there. These are anime which I consider help understand anime better because of their referential humour, commentary on otaku culture (whether it's anime or gaming), exploration of the industry and twisting of classic tropes in self-aware ways that put them in perspective. Also included a couple shows which are not necessarily meta or referential, but they are here for being aggresively "anime" in nature, if that makes sense. With how over the top they are and/or how stereotypically otaku their concepts are, I think they give a good idea of how anime has developed. Forgotten comfy gems of the early-digital era of animation. Specifically series from the 2000s that might still have been produced in a 4:3 aspect ratio but this is not a requirement. The series I picked for my list are generally more absurd comedies or meta-commentaries with a lot of heart since that's what I gravitate towards, though is not necessariy representative to describe everything here. Not all of these shows were the most successful during airing but severely overlooked. Everything here is worth watching! The Arts are made up of three types: Performing Arts (Music, Dance, Theater, Cosplaying, Acting, etc.), Visual Arts (Painting, Drawing, Film Making, Animation, Video Game Creation, Photography, etc.) and Literary Arts (Novel/Light Novel Writing, Manga/Doujin Writing, Lyric Writing, Journalism, Magazines, Editing, Dictionary Writing, Ghost Writing, etc.). While Performing Arts and Visual Arts have tags on MyAnimeList, Literary Arts do not, so this interest stack is rectifying that. Literary Arts have a long history with anime like the other two art forms, so this includes a wide variety of them. It may also include some that are about being passionate for literature rather than writing itself. Some series are excluded if they lean more towards Performing Arts or Visual Arts than Literary Arts, such as Kodocha, Saekano or The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. While some series may have major characters who are novelists, it needs to have Literary Arts be an important aspect of the plot in order for it to be included. Also, there will only be one series per franchise for the sake of variety. NOT an exhaustive list. 50 TV anime adapting visual novels/ eroge with a male protagonist, usually with romance or a harem. Went for a generic sample, excluded series too exceptional/ distinct (Higurashi, Fate/Stay Night, ef: A Tale of Memories., etc.). 5k members minimum. Grumpy Jii-san was an anime reviewer and hiking enthusiast. Many of us were fond of him. This is the fourth part of a list of the anime he reviewed in video order from oldest to newest. They are presented without his score as mild encouragement for you to watch his reviews. Anime that are NOT available to watch outside of Japan LEGALLY through streaming services. Anime with various degrees and types of "moe" aesthetics that began after Neon Genesis Evangelion and before Azumanga Daioh. Moe and moe-adjacent aesthetics do exist before this time period, but they are not included in this this because I wanted to specifically focus on the aforementioned time period (maybe I'll make a "proto-moe" stack that includes them). |
