Onegai My Melody

Onegai My Melody is an anime that automatically touched my heart from episode 1. For those of you out there who like Sanrio (Hello Kitty, Cinamoroll, Kuromi ect) you would LOVE this anime. I say this anime is created more for children but its also ok for older people as well.

Story 9/10
The story takes place in 2 different worlds: Mari Land and the Human world. The storyline can be a bit boring at times, considering the plot is merely My Melody and Uta trying to stop Kuromi from turning people's dreams into nightmares. The plot of the story takes it's twists and turns as every ... day the main characters run into more critical situations. The story even involves how Uta is dealing with school life (grades, friends and even a secret older crush).

Art 7/10
I would rate the art as being good. This anime does not have the best art in the entire world, but since it was designed more for the children audience, the art is wonderful. The main human characters always have great designs no matter what their attire happens to be. I think that the best part of the art in this anime would be the backgrounds and environment. The places in Mari Land are drawn to make someone feel quite happy, whereas when in the "nightmare", you feel somewhat scared.

Sound 8/10
The sound's as in the music used are very cute and creative. The theme song for season 1, "Oto MELODY" is one of those songs that you just want to sing along with when hearing. As for the sound effects, they too are very well done. The majority of the effects come from the "magical happens". When My Melo uses the Melody Mark and Kuromi uses the Melody Key, the sound effects are great.

Character 9/10
The characters in Onegai My Melody are ones that almost everyone can relate to. The main character Uta is involved in school, tries to learn the violin and has a crush on an older high school guy named Keiichi Hiiragi. Hiiragi of couse is the "bad guy" along with the main antagonist of the series, Kuromi.
The relationship between Uta and My Melo as well as Kuromi and her sidekick Bacu are very complex. The interactions between them make the viewer feel an assortment of things.

Overall
I would say that overall, Onegai My Melody is in my top five favorite animes. For me that is a huge deal considering I have seen more anime than i have taken breaths (lol not really but it is a lot). Onegai My Melody was a joy to watch. It is something I would recommend watching when you just want to laugh at something, or when you are feeling a bit depressed. This anime never ceased to make me laugh or wonder. I am currently watching the 4th season of the show: Onegai My Melody Kirara. Onegai My Melody is a long anime, but if you have the time, I assure you that this anime is worth watching.

Kuromi is a new character created in 2005 by Sanrio to join the My Melody universe in the anime Onegai My Melody. She was a fantastic push to bring back My Melody in the spotlight after being around for a long time. I fell in love with Kuromi when I saw a Kuromi birthday card at Sanrio Gift Gate Hong Kong. :) At that time, I never knew that Sanrio had made such a cute character since My Melody and Hello Kitty, gotto notice it first lol. I feel warm from seeing her cute face on merchandise. So then, I became a Kuromi fan, I ... got a big Kuromi plushie and other Kuromi merchandise. That took me to start looking at “Kuromi Note” videos of the anime of Kuromi that were on youtube which I loved so I wanted to watch the anime.

My Melody and Kuromi’s relationship are interesting. My Melody can't harbor any hate to Kuromi for all the bad things she’s doing and Kuromi can't stand Melo that her nice personality ends up being so mean to Kuromi lol That’s the birth of “Kuromi Noteeeeeee toooooooo” So Kuromi wants to get Melody back though, but Kuromi not at fault here, nor is Melody lol, that’s the cute part :) I give Onegai My Melody all my hearts !!!!

The first time I watched Onegai My Melody, I was surprisingly a bit bored by the first episode. As a massive fan of Sanrio and My Melody all together, I was disappointed that I didn't really enjoy the first episode upon initially watching it. I didn't continue for the past episode for a while, but upon giving it a second chance, I realized how wrong I was at first.

Onegai My Melody is a highly charming, funny, comforting show that I don't doubt I'll be re-watching for years to come. While at first it might seem a bit confusing, and a bit dull being thrown into ... these two worlds you know nothing about, once you truly get to know the characters, they truly make you feel like you know them, and these worlds. Uta and My Melo especially have such a wonderful bond, watching their friendship grow over the course of the show makes you really root for them to win against the villain.

Kuromi and Baku also always steal the show. They way they play off of not only the protagonists but each other makes for a very enjoyable experience every single time you sit down to watch it. They're more like Team Rocket antagonists than super villains, and I like that. This show has it's big bads, but Kuromi and Baku are far more fun and complex, giving you reasons to root for and against them.

This anime isn't without flaws of course. Eggplant Subs did a wonderful job subbing this show, but it's definitely dated. The use of an offensive slur is used more than once in the sub and can really catch you off guard. Don't let it hinder your enjoyment though, just consider the Eggplant Subs sub a product of the time. The show can also get a little overly ridiculous at times. I certainly rolled my eyes every now and then. But that gives it character, and a sense of an anime I've never truly seen before. The 52 episode count might intimidate you at first, but you'll probably find yourself flying through it fast.

Don't be mistaken by the cutesy art and simple story structure, this anime may look like it's for kids, but anyone of any age can enjoy it. It feels more like a 13+ anime, due to the fairly realistic portrayal of middle school angst, friendships, feelings, and conflicts. These kids go through things a lot of us felt and thought at their age. Even the boobs episode (just watch the show, you'll know what I'm talking about soon enough). I highly relate to a lot of the struggles these characters face to my own experiences as an early teen, and I think many others will too

Definitely give this anime and it's sequel a shot, you'll laugh, cry, and overall have a fun time. 9/10 for sure

I have only seen 13 episodes but unless the series drastically changes within the next 39, I doubt my opinion will change. I have also watched all 13 of these episodes during my chem class, so I may have missed on some stuff, but I have the basic gist of the anime at least. (oh and I also do not play it with sound) So this is like an episodic anime, which I guess can be good or bad. In my case, it is good, since I am usually seperating out the times I watch rather than binging it all.

Ok now time to list ... some good stuff about this show. Number one, I like the Kuromi character. They are very cute. Number two, I like some of the characters that appear for one episode and none of the others. Like the one episode with the main girl's older sister(i dont know any of their names) who has this other boy at her school who likes her. And then there was like this performance and he was in a dinosaur costume and fought the other dude. That was cool, I hope they don't just throw away that character.

Next, some things I thought were kind of uncool. Number 1, the main cast pisses me off. Like I know this is like a kid's show and probably for girls, but I imagine you are still pissed off watching these characters even if you are the demographic. Like bruh, how can you be this annoying. OK so the main girl's sisters aren't that bad, along with her friends at school (I thought the red hair girl was a boy for a while). Actually the red hair girl is kind of annoying, she has this gimmick where she is like "I hate cute things" or something and I thought that was kind of dumb. Okay, but, the main girl. She is honestly not that remarkable but like her main thing I think is that she is in love with the blue haired dude, and that really pisses me off. Not just that the blue hair guy is supposed to be the villain, but that she is so god damn stupid. Like bruh, what are you doing. You have no chance with this guy. I wish she would stop liking him and start using her brain, because this pisses me off so much and I want to close the tab. Next, the actual villain guy. This dude is honestly kind of unremarkable, like I don't know what his motive is for being a villain, but honestly I don't really care. I don't know if he is popular with the female viewers or is considered a "husbando" but I imagine not. He plays the violin, and I think that is his motive? And he is all in all just a loser. I mean not really a loser but I just hate him, I would beat him up if I saw him in school. He also does this weird thing whenever Kuromi does like the hypnosis thing where she transforms some random guy, and then the blue hair guy like looks at them while playing the violin, and I don't know why? I don't know if I missed the reason why that happens, but it is stupid either way. OK well that out of the way, time for the final one. WHICH IS MY MELODY. GOD DAMN SHE PISSES ME OFF. HOLY SHIT. Like she is the face of the show, the brand, the reason why people watch. Is because they like this character. To be honest, her design is pretty cute UNTIL YOU SEE HER IN THE ANIME!!! Like her character is just that she is dumb and oblivious. Bro, we already have the main girl for that role, we don't need another. She is just very very stupid and I think that the creators are trying to make me think that this is cute??? But in reality it is just really annoying. And the way she carries herself. The way she moves. Dumbest shit, you know. I hate her. And this other thing, whenever she uses the "Melody Mark" or whatever and then a while later she asks the whatever the thing that transformed was to try harder or something, she does this like head tilt thing and hearts come out and that pisses me off even further. You, in no way, are appealing to me. You absolute filth. Fuck you. If I was the main girl, I would fucking stomp on you and send you to the landfill. Where you fucking belong you fucking piece of fucking shit. And the thing is, it works! Like obviously its the magic that is working, not the appeal of My Melody. But that makes me REALLY ANGRY. Oh and I forgot to point this out, the other reason I hate how the main girl like the blue hair guy is because I ship her with the brown hair short boy. I like him, he is right to point out that the main girl being obsessed with the blue haired guy is a flaw. Anyways yeah, I hope they get together and the main girl realizes how much of a piece of shit the blue hair guy is.

Even with me not liking these three characters, I still like the show. I watch it on youtube and there are not many anime on youtube and it is also not blocked by the school, so I would say that this anime watching experience has been an overall win. I will give it 10/10. Would recommend, even if you are not into these types of shows.
