Anime that have significant non-Japanese Asian characters and settings. At least at the level of arcs or significant supporting characters.

Includes mostly Slice of life/ romance titles with no violence, profanity, fan service etc.
Many of them are wholesome and/or emotional and would be great to share with family members.
I also tried to include more entry level shows that are not too “anime-esque”, tropey, full of moe etc., as I’d imagine most of the family don’t watch anime on a regular basis.

For watching with parents, I’d also especially recommend the childcare entries on this stack, I think they could find them relatable/ wholesome :)

If you're emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed by anxious thoughts, or just want to relax, these anime will help you unwind. Some of them can be viewed before bedtime. Some can be simple or silly, and that's the point. But all of them are calm, quiet, and unhurried.

Modern anime tends to get the understandable reputation that it sucks, thanks to being filled with lowest common denominator isekai and shounen slop, so instead of focusing on that, I'll be celebrating the best anime to have come out since 2007. The following may share any of the following categories:

- Well written plots and characters
- Thought provoking themes
- Mature tone
- Good sound design
- Actually good animation, not just flashy colors over bad storyboarding ala MAPPA
- Unconventional storytelling and visuals

I also tried to avoid including sequels without their predecessors, so something like the Haruhi movie wouldn't count as its series predates the set date.
