Black Blood Brothers

Ten years after the Holy War in Hong Kong, Jirou Mochizuki with his young brother Kotarou, return to Japan to live in the “Special Zone”. Trouble soon follows in the form of the Kowloon Children, an immoral clan of vampires that want to take over the entire vampiric race. Jirou, aka the Silver Blade, Katarou and their new friend, Mimiko Katsuragi a compromiser for the Order Coffin Company, the humans in control of the “Special Zone” have no choice but to put an end to the Kowloon threat.

My Thoughts:
This is one anime I truly enjoyed watching. Jirou’s character acts tough but you see the ... love he has for his brother; and Kotarou is always smiling, he brings light into Jirou’s otherwise gloomy mood. Black Blood Brothers is a 12 episode series I recommend watching. I do hope they do a 2nd season.

NON-SPOILER SECTION

Plot (+1): The world-building was cool. Everything seemed to flow and there was not really any filler.

Characters (+1): The characters were well established, however, pretty generic.

Tone (+1): Action shounen with comedic moments in there. It built up tension when it needed to be there.

... Consistency (+1): Yeah, it was pretty consistent.

Did it well? It got pretty boring with all the info-dumping.

PERSONAL Enjoyment Factors:
Characters (like/love?) (+0.5): I liked the characters in the beginning… but nothing that I loved. I really wish that the main character, Mimiko was scrapped as she served no purpose but to be a self-insert. She was boring. Jirou had a bit more personality, but not much more. I really wish that more focus was given to the other vampire characters because they were really interesting and had really cool powers that could’ve had more potential with more screen time. I especially liked Zelman. Poor Kotarou, I wanted him to have more development but he just became the generic little brother character.

Soundtrack (OP/ED): Nothing that I really enjoyed or would listen to outside of watching the show.

Engagement (+0.5): Too much info-dumping, they sit around and talk... a lot.

Ending: Read-the-manga ending, so beware if you still decide to watch this. It felt like they wanted a season 2 but was never renewed.

Characters (like/love?): Kotarou (Jirou’s little brother) being the reincarnation of Alice (Jirou’s former lover) was very SUS to me. I did not enjoy that ‘twist’. Sorta makes the title itself a lie since they aren’t really brothers.

Ending: It was a pretty cute ending, but I guess now that it doesn’t have a season 2, it’s all left to the imagination. With this type of ending to the first season, I can only assume that the series finale would have a happy ending, too. Meaning that they’d find some loop hole so that Jirou stays alive or something. Obviously, they’re building up his and Mimiko’s relationship.

This is the best vampire anime I've watched. For some the story for the season may seem a bit "dull" but I feel like it is just the beginning. There is much more depth to the characters. I loved the characters all unique in their way and they all contributed to the overal story and the cause. The only flaw about this anime is that they left an open ending but have yet to announce a second season. Hopefully soon, we'll have more. Even though it is a vampire anime I loved the fact that it is not overly dark as some of the other ... vampire anime tend to be. I recommend everybody to watch it!

So far only appeared in the story of the vampire has become known to the public the reality of the so-called "CRISIS KOWLOON" is referring to this time. Humans and vampires in order to deal with a common enemy kowloon origin and the composition of the same front, this is called "HONG KONG HOLY WAR" battle. Will have a use kowloon origin cut off, defeating the ancestor of king of kowloon vampire. He is the "VING DAO" - Jiro Mochizuki. Jiro ... is also because of their positive action. Yes, everything was awesome in this anime. Being a fan of vampires when they're done right, I instantly hooked onto this show. Only to find out it's not even finished yet. Which leaves me hanging. . . . And I don't like being left like that!!!
What I Liked: Zelman Clock. That is all.
But, seriously, the characters were amazing. Although the relationship between Jiro and his younger brother wasn't the closest I'd ever seen, it was still touching. And I will blow up like a stick of dynomite if Mimiko and Jiro don't get together. I didn't care AT ALL about Jiro's background. Honestly, I ... think "Rule of Cool" would defiinitely fit this anime if it wanted. It's funny, but can be serious, as well.
What I Didn't Like: All the drama circulating Jiro's past. I didn't think it was necessary, but that's just me. The fact that Zelman didn't get a lot of screentime hit a nerve, as he's the epitome of all things sexy!!! And the fact that I'll probably never see Mimiko and Jiro together. . . . Sorry, but I'm a sucker for romance.
Overall, I give this anime a 9/10, just because it's good enough that only twelve episode can leave me fuming like this. . . . Definitely recommended!!! :)

I felt that the story in this was good and the characters on the whole to be strong and unique.

i personally have a strong dislike for Mimiko on the whole i find her interaction in the story to be more of a detractor than anything else.

but on the whole this is a very good vampire anime and i would watch it again.

To be very honest, though I personally find vampires rather fascinating, I rarely come across any medium comprising vampires satisfactory. That said, I was honestly apprehensive about risking another vampire anime. After having watched it, however, I must say: Among anime, I'd have to admit Black Blood Brothers is, by far, one of the better ones I've seen.

The story was also a definite strong point. It's covered in a refreshingly different style, with the first few minutes of each episode recounting the original events which led to the current situation.
The characters were also well made, with, for a ... refreshing change, no exceptionally annoying character present. For such a short anime (12 episodes) it explored most of the main characters fairly well.
The music wasn't anything exceptional, but not bad either. Sadly, nothing here I'd spend some free time casually listening to.

The only major negative point I could find here was the plot. I'm not saying that it was handled poorly, but it kept giving me the feeling that would lead up to something more and still ends up a little lacking. It seems to have been left open for a possible second season.

Overall, I'd have to say I enjoyed this anime. I don't feel like I'd wasted my time watching it and I'm pretty sure, in the long run, I'll definitely watch it at least once more.

BBB was released in the 3 DVD format. Nice in that three rents and you're done and generally the 3 DVD format lends itself to a formula. Now give or take but disc 1 is intros and set-up, disc 2 is the build of the story, and disc 3 is the conclusion.

I watched the first disc and was hooked. Full out "gimmie" mode hanging on release dates keeping all hope for them at the top of the netflix queue. Disc 2 though sent out the warning flags. What's going on? Why are we still introducing characters? ... More story set up? What?! That was all of disc 2? You mean I have to have the story build and finish in the same disc? That's a lot to ask of an anime to swing in so few episodes.

... and then came the rush to try to finish. Generally it left me feeling like this was a big fat promo for the manga which is fine and dandy if it was available to you (perhaps it is now but at the time of viewing...).

Vampires live openly amongst humans except for in a “special zone,” but some of the most dangerous ones called Kowloon Children are seeking to infiltrate the area. Enter Mochizuki Jirou, a badass vampire with a great backstory.

Right off the bat, I'm going to say that Jirou is by far the coolest anime character I've ever seen. Think about that for a second; there are a lot of pretty awesome characters out there, and this guy is the most awesome (in my opinion). He's also stuck carting around his little brother Kotaro, and their relationship is really cute.

The city-building and vampire-rules building in BBB are ... superb, almost on a Trueblood level. Only pureblood vampires burn in the sun (including our Jirou, and it's very amusing when he does), so they have to take interesting precautions. Try this one, as it's a short but effective vampire tale.

To be honest, I did enjoy this anime, then again, I'm also easy to please. But this was by no means a stellar anime.

The story was average. Simple Vampire story. The main character is looking for some kind of redemption through taking care of his little brother and, along the way, his past comes back to haunt him. Pretty simple stuff. There was some originality here and there, but over all, been there, done that.

Some of the character's were interesting. I personally liked Zelman Clock. I really would have liked to learn more about the three territory heads, but the story never goes into them ... too much. The main character was a little like they took Alucard from hellsing and Abel from Trinity Blood and jammed them together in some really weird mash up topped off with a wizards hat. The lead female was stale and had less character then the little boy. It was painful to watch her.

The story was just much too short to really let it go anywhere. The art and sound were average, like the rest of the show.

All and all, it's a good anime if you have nothing else to be watching or you are really REALLY into Vampire anime.

BBB seemingly sets out to do one thing - entertain - and it certainly achieves that goal. There's not a huge amount of depth to this, no particularly deep characterisation or complex theme's and moral shades. It’s just a cool setting with cool characters doing cool things, and I can really appreciate that. You can sit down in front of BBB and your guaranteed to be entertained for the next few hours. And at the end of the day that’s really all one can ask from a media product. I'd suggest getting the first episode and watching that, if after the first five minutes your ... not interested then you might as well move along (its rather like Samurai 7 in that manner).
