As someone who grew up with Disney movies and near a Disney amusement park, I found this commercial very wholesome and nostalgic.
I'm giving this review mixed feelings for the recommendation because it is very short, only 30 seconds long. I don't think this television commercial is something most people would go out of their way and watch on purpose unless if they have some kind of interest in both Disney and anime.
If you would like more detail about Tokyo Disney Resort: "Where Dreams Come True", here is your warning that SPOILERS start from down below here!! ↴
✦ Story - 7/10
The storyline of this commercial is
...
about a girl who has grown up with many happy memories at Tokyo Disneyland from childhood to when she becomes an elderly woman. It is made so viewers can feel like they are walking in her shoes as if they have grown up with Disney as well.
✧ Art - 10/10
The art style is very beautiful! If this was a movie or series I'm sure it would become popular and loved by many. There is a lot of detail that you can easily miss unless if you take some time to pause or rewatch it multiple times.
I appreciate how the artists have taken the time to accurately draw the scenes with actual Disney Parks attractions, merchandise, and food.
✦ Sound - 6/10
The music in the commercial is a cover of "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Cinderella. It is not as good as the original soundtrack, but it does fit the theme of the commercial with "dreams coming true" as well as connect with the subtle details such as the young girl meeting a Cinderella cast member and the fact that the 168 ft. tall Tokyo Disneyland castle is designed after the one from Cinderella too.
✧ Character - 5/10
Well, I think this is a pretty generous and decent rating for a short advertisement. There is not much to say about the characters since they do not speak a single line, and we really only consistently see the main character. The design is realistic and looks like an average girl without any overexaggerated features or unrealistic hair/eye colors.
It's kind of a disappointment that the only other faces we can see are her friends and her daughter in the future. We don't get to properly see her parent(s) or her boyfriend/husband, which is a little disappointing.
✦ Overall Enjoyment - 7/10
I enjoyed it, however, I wish it was a little bit longer... at least one minute long. I think the best parts are the things I've already mentioned about all of the incredible detail and design. The storyline is subtle and I did not even notice that the girl throughout the advertisement is the same person during different stages of her life until after I rewatched it for the first time, which I don't find disappointing because I found it enjoyable to analyze, observe, and piece everything together. If you value beautiful sounds and quality characters though, then in my opinion this is the most lacking and disappointing part. But it is a commercial after all, so you can't expect too much from it.
