Above Earth, invisible to humans, float the Heavens—a collection of floating island kingdoms supported by the magic of their godlike inhabitants. The mysterious power source known as Akuto enables this magic to exist, but this is quickly running out. In response to this energy crisis, most of the kingdoms in the Heavens agree to use the minimum amount of Akuto required to sustain themselves, except for the Magical Kingdom. The leader of this kingdom, the Magical King Munto, believes that Akuto can be replenished if he travels to Earth and meets a mysterious girl shown to him by a seer. While Munto sets off on the dangerous journey, the other kingdoms attempt to destroy the Magical Kingdom and acquire the remaining Akuto for themselves.

On Earth, Yumemi Hidaka is dealing with her own problems. She can see floating islands in the sky that nobody else can. While her best friend Ichiko Ono believes her, Yumemi wonders if she is going insane. When Munto suddenly appears before her, Yumemi dismisses him as a mere delusion. She is more concerned about her 13-year-old friend Suzume Imamura, who is attempting to elope with her delinquent boyfriend. As the Magical Kingdom nears the point where it will fall from the sky, Munto's quest to save both the Heavens and Earth grows increasingly desperate.

For Kyoto Animation's first outing, it's an impressive one. The story itself may be cliche and full of exposition but the art is really good. The pacing isn't as good and the ending feels a bit rushed despite all the time it took getting there but the animation and direction and ideas present make it an interesting watch overall. Got a few Cardcaptor vibes from the story but that's never really a bad thing.

(Also, for the English dub it was pretty hilarious to have Goku's original dub voice coming out of a Vegeta look alike.)

I keep being told to enter a longer review but ...

Mixed Feelings
Munto is the first work of Kyoto Animation, Mundo is the king of a magical kingdom that floats in the sky thanks to a magical power called Akuto. One day when the Akuto is reaching is end, Mundo descendes to earth searching for a girl that have the power to restore the link between the Earth and the magical kingdom.

Story: 6 out of 10

They have an interesting setting but unfortunately they lost time with meaningless actions that didn't make any contribution to the story.

Art: 7 out of 10

At first i really didn't like the art but that's because i already saw many animes until today ...

This anime was a part of my childhood, and so I decided to watch this movie for nostalgia.
It was such a disappointment.

Story 3/10
The story is there are some pillars falling from the sky and that is causing Munto's kingdom to fall. His world resides in an alternate dimension. However, there is only one girl on earth who can see Munto's dimension as well as the flying pillars, and she is the only one who can "save the world." Munto has to convince her to cross over into his dimension and help him.

This premise is incredibly interesting in theory but this movie does ...

Hit Anime Studios and Their Biggest Disappointments

Hit Anime Studios and Their Biggest Disappointments

We know Madhouse for Death Note and One Punch Man, Kyoto Animation for Haruhi Suzumiya and Clannad, and Studio Ghibli for basically everything they make. But what about their flops? Their biggest disappointments? Who remembers these clangers?
