Interest StacksIf you've ever seen an anime and thought, "Wow, this anime has really good background art", and "Wow, this episode preview at the end looks amazing!" chances are it was made by Shichiro Kobayashi. An icon of Japanese animation, Kobayashi has had a fruitful career spanning over thirty years as the art director for several iconic shows. While known generally for his vibrant and highly detailed palettes, Kobayashi brought the animation technique known as "postcard memories" or "harmonies" to life alongside director and innovator Osamu Dezaki and character designer Akio Sugino, which are cels of animation superimposed with gouache to give off a lasting image. people tell me I have weird tastes. But I enjoy a good amount of series. I also watch alot that others havent seen, so I wanted to compile some good ones I have enjoyed that many may have not seen. Neon Genesis Evangelion is widely considered one of the most influential anime ever made, and a multitude of series were created to follow the leader, copying from its premise, characters, aesthetics, themes, and any combination of the previous. Here's some anime that can be considered to be EVA clones. Note: Some series that, in contrast, inspired EVA are included at the end. Original TV anime from 1996 to 2002, I characterize this era as 'post-eva' as a good number of these series contain aspects that resemble Evangelion, some were even inspired by it. Includes all* anime on the Anime+/GRAPH mahou shoujo/magical girl achievement list Fighting Female Protagonist part Part 2 - https://myanimelist.net/stacks/34283 the strain of subversive magical girl-type anime in the age between Utena and Madoka. Anime with various degrees and types of "moe" aesthetics that began after Neon Genesis Evangelion and before Azumanga Daioh. Moe and moe-adjacent aesthetics do exist before this time period, but they are not included in this this because I wanted to specifically focus on the aforementioned time period (maybe I'll make a "proto-moe" stack that includes them). All the anime mentioned or recommended in conjunction to Neon Genesis Evangelion in Trixie the Golden Witch's "How Evangelion Altered Anime Eternally" Video Essay. |
