A Super Robot series with fanservice? No denying that. But there's a compelling story beneath the fanservice and mecha action.

I would like to add that in both series there are robots with boobs, which can be pretty large in Godannar. Which makes Godannar somewhat more fanservicey on the mecha boob design level. While piloting, the female sits in front, and the male behind her. In Darling in the Franxx, the female's position is somewhat more lewd though.

Great fan service and awesome mecha action.

Both are on the extremes of Super-Robot testosterone-inducing ridiculousness.

Great super robot anime with a lot of fanservice while still having compelling stories and fun characters for what they are.

Mecha, girls, action, drama, and comedy, what else could you ask for more? Both of these series contain plenty of action and even fan-service. Both series also has romance that are explored in the story and there are emotional drama as episodes progresses. Great series for mecha fans.

There's a famous pic lying around on 4chan /m/ that makes the connection between godannar and mazinkaizer. also, tatsuya shares the same voice actor with kouji in Mazinkaiser. both also contain hot blooded songs by Ichiro Mizuki and some really good fanservice. I can't help to think that Godannar was very much inspired by nagai's 70s mecha series. i may be wrong, but that's the general gist i get from watching it.

Both have a Hero/Heroin who wants to save the world using giant robots controlled by their own hands

Two shows for fans of big, honking, sugoi dekai... robots. Hot blooded manly mecha action with big robots, shouting finishing moves, and girls with absurd, uhh, personalities... These two anime are brothers in spirit, and I can't see why a fan of one wouldn't enjoy the other.

Both are very fun super robot shows. They involve pilots from various countries working together to face a larger threat. Both have a very strong emphasis on romance as well. Of course, Godannar does have much more fanservice, but despite that, the two series have a very similar feel.

Hot girls, mobile suits, and pecarious sexual situations....

I feel both of these series are somewhat cheesy, but they were both made by creators who knew a lot of old stories inside out and who wanted to show how well they appreciated the old stories. IMHO Gun X Sword has the high production values and depth that Shinkon Gattai Godannar should have had.

Hot girls piloting giant robots in compromising positions. Lots of screaming and skimpy suits/outfits. Both are pure awesome.
