Angel Beats! Another Epilogue

A short review about this short episode.

Basically this is what happens if Otonashi stayed behind. Whether he really did stay, a signal for a second season, or a just a short thing to show what would happen and what he would do if he stayed is out of my knowledge's reach.

Summary: A person that was in the afterlife realizes that he is dead and questions why he is there. Otonashi comes in and helps him figure out what to do buy challenging him and offers him help afterwards. The class causes a small uproar about it and ... the teacher tries to calm everyone down and get them to finish the test. The main person refuses.

Story: 9
I'm only giving this a nine because I enjoy things that leave things out because it drives my imagination crazy. And also it also show some of the questions out there if he really stayed in the afterlife to help people. It may cause some to think that he maybe the guy who created the angel player and the Angel Beats time line maybe going in loops (which is the thing I do not want, but it's a thought nonetheless)

High quality art as usual. Really good tension scene.

Sound: 10
The voice acting was outstanding, and the choice of the BG was really good. It brought nostalgia even though it has only been a half of a year.

Character: 10
Otonashi showed a great deal of concern to other people in an indirect way. I like that because that's how I am. And the new character also showed a great deal of internal conflict and started to solve how to get out of it by Otonashi's help. That's really good character development in a two minute segment.

Enjoyment: 10
It brought a quench of thirst to me, since I've been looking forward to this since the first season ended. No matter what it was, I was still going to give it a 10.

Overall: 9
I'll give it a 9. It's probably because there wasn't much there, but there was something. Also, I'm sure it fires up people's imagination and excitement if there is going to be new season or not. I'm looking forward for more!

This one is so short. Basically it's another epilogue. It's an alternate ending to the original ending from Angel Beats and without spoiling it but I prefer this ending. It's pretty bitter sweet.

Just imagine it as a short extended ending with the art and setting all the same art and only featuring voices from one returning character

(Those bitter sweet endings though: TTGL, Madoka movie, -cough- Angel beats epilogue)

This review is short, but so is the episode, so yeah. Also, spoilers. Big spoilers. Spoils everything (as much as possible for an episode this long).

This is basically what happens if Otonashi stays behind. If this really happened, or if this is a alternate ending, or even a promo for a second season, I do not know. In my opinion, this is an alternate ending and it's up to the viewer to decide which one he or she wants to believe in.

I do know however that a lot of people find this episode very confusing and completely unnecessary.

I personally like this ending though. It's ... a sad ending, true, but a lot of good anime have a sad ending. The reasons I like this ending are:
- it does a good job of explaining some stuff that wasn't explained in the main series. This is what happens: after Otonashi helps the student, you hear the rumours of a very cool student council president (him) and that he is waiting for someone. Now when did we already heard this? Oh, right, its the same story as the unknown programmer. This would indicate that Otonashi somehow is that programmer (don't ask me how, but it's cool);
- I think it lies within his personality. Before Tenshi leaves in the main series, he does ask her to stay and that they will help the others together. Also, note that he did die helping others.
- and last, I did not really get how he could have left like the rest. I mean, he doesn't seem that happy when Tenshi left, and isn't that a condition to move on?

Anyway, as you've might have noticed, I like this ending better than the first. But, as I've said in the beginning of this review, it's up to the viewers to decide which one they want.

That being said, I give this short episode the same rating as the main series, a 9 out of 10.

To start off:

1.) If you've watched Angel Beats (the main story), this is a must watch. It explains most of the unanswered stuff.
2.) If you haven't watched the main story first, you should :)

While watching the last episode of Angel Beats you would have wondered, how Kanade ends up in this world before Otonashi.
Here we find out that time in the real world and time in the after world are not related. So it is possible that someone who died 100 years ago could end up here after a person who died yesterday.
...
This alternate ending (and IMHO should have been the actual one) also answers the question as to who the unknown programmer that created Angel Player and programmed the NPC to turn into shadows actually is.
Wondering who.....? Its Otonashi. In this 2:40 minutes thriller, when the student council president Otonashi leaves the classroom after promising to help a student who realises that there is no point in studying, we hear two girls whispering in the background that he is waiting for someone.
If you remember correctly, (in the main story) the NPC programmed to turn on the shadow patch reveals that the original programmer, was waiting for the one he loved and had turned himself to a NPC.
Or in other words, when everyone disappears, Otonashi decides to stay back and help the newcomers and to wait for his love Kanade. After a while, to preventing himself from turning crazy he turns himself into a NPC ( fully aware that it is possible to turn back into a normal person, as revealed in the main story).
Simply put, this creates a time-loop, where Otonashi is part of the software he himself created.

So this means

1.) Ontonashi is now a NPC.
2.) Otonashi himself was the unknown programmer (reason:time-loop).
3.) Otonashi now waits for Kanade to come back to this world (although the chances are astronomically low)

This is what I understood from this alternating ending :)
And so I give a full 10 on 10.

If you watched Angel Beats as in the actual show I think it would be a good idea to watch this. It was kinda sad and there was only the main character from the original show which made it even more sad when you look at how his life turned out but it shines a little light on what could have happened to him though most dont like to think this is how the story ends. If you are thinking about watching this before you watch the show and stairway to heaven dont do it. If you do it will give away pretty much everything ... and the show wont be as fun to watch because you will know how it ends. I mean im not going to come to your house and smack you just bcause you watched this first but if you want to get as much out of the show as you can watch the show in order.

Story 8: The story was very good and I think it adds to the plot as a whole, but it was short and I had to watch it twice in order to get what was going. ( As I have said in other reviews though im very slow. )

Art 10: The art was the same quality and standard as your usual Angel Beats stuff. Imean except for a few new characters the art was exactly the same and very good.

Sound 10: You have your usual Angel Beats piano noise and the voice were all done very well. Basically the exact same as the 13 episode show so I found it to be pretty good.

Character 9: The characters were all very good. I thought the new ones were good but they didnt act the way they did in the show. I mean your main characters were good and the ones that werent basicaly brain washed ( I cant remember the term its been a while ) I thought those characters were great. But I didnt think your usual students were as out of it as usual. Maybe im wrong but they didnt seem right to me.

Enjoyment 5: Dont get me wrong it was great, im not afraid to admit I cried it was absolutely touching to see what could have happened. But it was so short. It needed to be longer, I know it got its point across but that was basicaly the last part of the anime. Its pretty much the last you will see of the characters we all know and love.

Overall 8: The story was amazing I loved getting to see the show again and it is very important to watch if you have already watched everything else. Its pretty easy to find all I did was look it up online and it was on one of those anime sights. If youve seen the show look it up real quick its short so it wont take you long to watch. So grab some tissues sit back and enjoy.

I can't help but write comments on this epilogue.

For synopsis, the epilogue gives an alternative ending to the existing one, substituting the encounter between what appear to be reincarnated Yuruzu and Kanade with Yuzuru staying behind in the world forever, helping newcomers to find their peace and pass on.

But.. that is saddddd. The scene ends with Yuzuru sitting in the student council office, alone, with background chitchat about the "rumor" that the cool student council president is said to be waiting for someone, while we all know, the someone means Kanade, and that the waiting is forever. The separation does not even ... end with lifetime - longer than lifetime! - literally the longest separation. Just thinking it hurts the tear glands around my eyes. (I am shamefully vulnerable to all exploits that use the theme of "seperation".) Yuzuru was granted a second life, with the new-found friendship and the new-found love, who now all have passed on, yet he stays behind to live again solely for others, determined, alone and, this time, with no end. What could be more sorrowful than that?
I am just glad that this epilogue was published as an alternative ending (yet still published), for it hurts the a fan's feeling by not giving a blissful ending to a festive, yet touching comedy.

I liked this epilogue. If I were to be honest. I liked this 2 minutes give or take epilogue more that the actual series it self.

The OVA had a completely different atmosphere about it. A non-action, slight-comedy and was perhaps on the same level when it came to the drama.

kyonzuminagato maybe on to something, that's why this episode is named "Another Epilogue", this is another scenario where Otonashi chose to not disappear. This might be the next season, at the end of the 2mins+ clip, someone said "I heard He's waiting for someone". My guess is that someone is kanade. So He's waiting for Kanade's tragic death. Of course that's just a guess, and the probability of kanade having 2 consecutive tragic death is so low.

This episode is seriously quite sad. He is staying there and waiting for someone. Not much review, I can say but he has been through tough experience. Now he is able to help others to overcome it.

In the starting 1 minute I thought that the episode was quite vague but the moment Otonashi enters it kinda gives a signal for a second season. And also I hope they make one although the chances are quite low. Lets go step by step then
Story: 6/10 As I said the story is quite vague. But what can you expect of a 3 minute OVA. I believe it is something that shows what would have happened if Otonashi decided to stay.

Art: 8/10 Well the art is exceptional I must admit. Its quite beautiful and has perfect details for the characters.

Sound: 10/10 The sound in the ... OVA is specially good. I liked it for some reason.

Character: 6/10 Well can't expect much of characters here. Was a 3 min OVA after all

Overall I give it a 7/10.

I'm here to clear something up.

This is an alternate ending to the original series, it is not the opening to a second season but an extra clip that showed what the creators could have done but decided to to with the other ending where Yusuru eventually leaves with Kanade, however if there would be a second season it would go along with the manga which is a prequel that shows the events leading up to the narrative we see in the anime.

I can't write much because it's a very short episode.
But I can say that you can really see the personality of those characters in this short epilogue.
I really enjoyed it and it's a good bonus to Angel Beats.
I recommend watching it after you finish the anime. You won't be wasting your time.
The art and the sound don't dissapoint even this time. It's one of the good things about this anime.
Even the story it's pretty short, I believe it's enough to complete the anime.
Overall it's a good OVA, if I can call it so, and I don't regret watching it.

This gives the idea of ​​a loop history.
Because the guy who appears on the second computer room, says the program that creates the shadows, was created by someone who has lost his lover and who was waiting her until go crazy.
So this fits perfectly into end.
So no need to create a second season.

If you watch this then I'm assuming you have finished the entire series so spoilers shouldn't be an issue. This is about a 2 minute long clip showing what would have happened if Otonashi would have stayed behind like he wanted to and not moved on with the rest of his friends. The original epilogue of course shows that Otonashi did move on and that he found Kanade in the living world and hinted that they could be together. This ending shows that Otonashi stayed behind to help young souls move on and "graduate" from limbo. This is what Otonashi wanted to do with Kanade ... but she faded away and left him behind. The original ending was happier of course, it gave the audience hope that they would be together in life. But this ending gives a more "right" ending that also has merits. I can't say I prefer one ending over the other as both are really good. The original is happier and more hopeful while the alternate one shows Otonashi doing the more "right" thing. If Otonashi didn't stay behind then these young souls would be completely lost and not knowing why they were there and what their purpose was. With Otonashi there, they can move on and be born again a lot easier. I like the happy endings but this ending seems more like the right thing to do. It also hinted that he was hoping for Kanade to come back to him, I don't know if I saw that right or not though. But all and all, this ending takes a different sadder look on the already depressing series. A 2 minute long extra clip that's worth taking a look at.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it appears that Angel Beats! has received another epilogue. Now, if you're like me, you might be wondering if this new addition is worth your time. The answer? It's a mixed bag.

On one hand, it's nice to see the characters we know and love back in action. The animation is still top-notch, and the music is just as beautiful as ever. There are some moments that will tug at your heartstrings and remind you of what made the original anime so great.

However, the new story feels a bit tacked-on and doesn't really add much to the ... overall narrative. Some of the characters are relegated to the background, and the pacing can feel a bit rushed at times. It's clear that this epilogue was made more for fanservice than anything else.

The new Angel Beats! epilogue is like a slightly underpowered sports car - it's still fun to drive, but it's not going to blow your socks off. It's a nice addition for fans, but it doesn't quite live up to the original.

Overall, I'd give a score of 7.777/10. While it might not be essential viewing, it's still a decent addition to the Angel Beats! universe that fans are sure to enjoy.

This is a very short episode it's literally just to show a setting where Otonashi stays to guide others to move on from on they're past life. For the timeline in the story i think this might fit in at the last episode of the series before Otonashi got reincarnated or after kanade got move on from her past life(but before this event: where we saw kanade standing and humming my song while Otonashi is walking towards her direction) however those are just my assumption and it's really hard to prove it since this episode was called another epilogue. This is due to a ... reason that the ending is a little bit ambiguous(in short it's open ending). well i did enjoy this episode as well(just don't expect too much content from it hahaha) :D

This review will be a short one, as the episode itself was about 3 minutes long.

Story: This short, provided some interesting insight into (alliteration) the alternate ending of Angel Beats (spoilers for main show ahead). It was something that left me both in awe, and some heartbreak at what I initially thought was the actual end was further brought back. I greatly enjoyed this. 10/10.

Art: There was not much opportunity to showcase art in this, but from what I did see there was not much of a drop in quality from the actual show. 9/10.

Sound: There wasn't really any music in this short (as it ... was only about the length of a song) but the sound quality and voice acting was quite good. 8/10.

Character: I enjoyed how viewer's were given a new insight into the mind of Otonashi in this short, as well as shown the psychology of some others in the same world. 10/10.

Enjoyment: I greatly enjoyed this short, not much else to say for this specific review. 10/10.

Overall: This was an outstanding OVA centralised around one of my favourite anime series. 10/10.
