Miwa and her grandfather has a interesting presence in this show imo. Especially..Miwa, she seems more than just a customer but also curious about the drinks at that bar.

I like the little amount of details focusd on Ryuu. He has very good intuition and this episode/show continued to show how observant he is.

Oh I can guess correctly that that woman's occupation is bartender. But this does raise a question if this anime want to be about bartender or detective.

The series can really keep it chill vibe even at moments of tension, Sasakura learned something for himself this time.

The beverage/drinks lore is always the thing to look forward to in every episode.

Sasakura could literally be a detective or something, his abilities are quite insane.
Okay, I thought there won't be anything like this here, but I'm starting to ship Sasakura and Miwa lol. Not expecting any actual developments though.
My knowledge about cocktails is zero, so this was really interesting. We'll see a lot more other bartenders from now on judging from the OP.

It was good to see Sasakura to get taken down a notch after he basically told that lady bartender to "git gud". Miwa's still got his back, though.

@tywhoppity THIS 100%. I was thinking the same thing!

And @Reecey91 I also found it cute how Miwa went after him

In this battle of bartenders no one lost. Both Sasakura and Kuzuhara have their personal style.
Sasakura ensures that the first taste will be as good as possible, while Kuzuhara makes sure the taste lasts long after that.
No approach is better than the other; one can always learn something from a fellow bartender.
Great episode as always!

Another great episode! It's nice to see that Ryuu still has room for improvement after his confrontation with Kuzuhara. It's heartwarming to see Miwa care about Ryuu's defeat and comfort him.

Interesting question, whether to make something specifically for the customer or to make something perfectly "correct". Realistically, it's probably impossible to make every drink highly-customized AND great (without the taste changing, for example); it's hard enough to make every drink exactly to the formula 100% of the time.

But I really hope the characters and the story become more interesting.

@SD_strange To me, it wasn't what he said, but how he said it. It would have been nice if he gave her a two minute tutorial on how to make the drink. Instead, he showed no empathy whatsoever. It came across as "Sorry, not sorry, you just suck at it." When "Mr. Perfect" did the same thing to him in a similar condencending tone, it felt like karma served.

I think the main take away from this episode is that you could always get better at your current skillset. Whether you've been a master-class bartender for years or you're just starting out, there's always more you can learn and you don't know everything! Ryuu and Mr. Perfect both learned this, and the new bartender lady will hopefully figure it out in time. Can't wait for the next episode!

For some reason, this series gives me vibes similar to "AI no Idenshi". Maybe similarily poor-ish animation style and character design, slice of life story, but put in the setting that absolutely resonates with my heart and my interestings -> super awesome series for me to watch <3

I don't enjoy the drink making as much as cooking but it's still good.

The lawyer woman in previous chapter was right, it seems bartenders are assholes but between each other. Great with their customers but assholes to another bartender, even if it's to help each other to be better.

This anime serves as the perfect nightcap for Wednesday evenings. It seems like Ryuu has a lot to learn after the battle of the cocktails with Mr. Perfect and I think being able to read what the customer wants is a good trait to have. I also understand its not easy to please everybody so as a bartender you have to make the perfect drink that fits the customers request. Miwa might be slowly falling for Ryuu and I don't blame her since he's a great catch for Miwa.

It seems like we noe have a final boss of bartendering in town. This "mister perfect" truly strives to make his name one of notoriety while not caring as much for each customer, something Ryu is very observant about. But alas, this difference in experience was apparently too great on the second taste and Ryu wasn't able to take it at face value. Thankfully his "soon to be" girlfriend was there to take care of him.

That girl who entered first.. that was a cheap trick from creator to make her a bartender also and then start explaining how the drink is made.. like trying to copy Shokugeki no Soma...

When that mr perfect came.. it was insane that he noticed his pinky finger! no one sane would notice that! Ryuu got some issues to act like that...

Another week of "do not drink just because an anime of alcohol porn made you want to" going strong. (don't drink, it's bad for you, any amount. If do, at least greatly limit amount and frequency)

5/5 episode for me, I didn't notice anyone stabbing right at their hands this episode.
We got lots of drinks and experiences, as well as more mutual intimate relationship between these two forming (I guess you could claim it might be theoretically platonic, but I see it as hella romantic and <3).
Our guy made another bartender friend, we already knew from opening she was bartender. Mr. Perfect has some ass-holic qualities like her grandfather. Great competition where I say our main character won as a *limited clientele* bartender, but for the sake of "taste" Mr. P won as our main dude only won taste immediately after serving then lost it.

I found the joke about granddaughter being the lover funny and I'm sure that dirtbag thought so too so said it. It's wholesome because 1 adults, 2 likely doesn't cross mind of someone actually having/wanting that. Once you think of it as serious or true or desired, gets kind of weird.

So to my knowledge, this material came out in 2007, food wars came out in 2012. I would not be surprised if I'm wrong, but that's my understanding.

  • It was the episode with the highest density of information. It felt longer than normal 24 minutes.
  • cocktails: B&B, Benedictine, Gin fizz, Rum, Manhattan
  • technique: stir (out of 4 methods: build, stir, shake, blend)
  • misc: ei-ji happou from calligraphy
  • It's a business fundamental to please customers. But there are some people who get the wrong idea customers to obey their styles. As far as I know, the former idea was presented as comics in Houchounin Ajihei.
  • The protagonist behaved kind of childish after he lost the game. But he was still pro not to do improper behavior in their sanctuary.
  • The best drink should be determined by the 5W1H. If you drink something after marathon, not-so-cold water must taste best.

This episode went by so quick it’s just so chill and relaxing to watch man😫

Sasakura needs to become Sherlock Holmes sidekick with how attentive bro is like he saw Miwa rush to the bar so he made a cocktail to suit her body temperature like this guy Sasakura is insane😭😭😭

We finally got to see him frustrated and tbh I didn’t think I’d see that kind of face considering how chill bro is, maybe it’s karma for telling that lady bartender Kyoko to get better but I’m pretty sure bro didn’t mean it in a “snobby” way💀

Miwa’s tsundere bit at the end was SO cute I loved it she sounded so adorable man🥰

100% this may be the most interesting part of the show for me. I'm loving the intricacies of mixology + the lore of each drink being made. It's just got a great feel to it, very endearing and nothing feels rushed.

I liked this episode quite a bit, it was a good way to show that even though Ryuu is a master bartender, there are still many more levels to becoming the best of the best. If anything I felt a little bad for the lad because of the forced situation. Nonetheless he took his L like a man and is gonna move forward with what happened in mind. I still appreciate his perspective on bartending with the customer service first approach. It gives his character the vibe of genuinely wanting to serve the best drink he can to whomever he's serving.

I think the OP and ED are growing on me pretty quickly as well. The ED this week hit a little bit harder than I remember.

"A normal customer wouldn't have asked about the bar hours when she came in"

Probably not a normal or regular one, but how about one that's just overpolite and thoughtful? It isn't something that might be outlandish in a country where courtesy is ingrained into their citizens from early age, specially on more orthodox or old school families.

"Or stared at the way I swirled the bar spoon so aggresively"

Fancy bars tend to have bartenders that do like to set up a show, so watching their fancy juggling and jazz handing techniques is something a lot of people, specially those who aren't regulars, would certainly stare at.

Just like the example with the lawyer on which Sasakura deducted her work just by looking at a particular bag, there could had been many other posibilities and people chose that particular kind of bag just for the looks and functionality, not that it was only sold to lawyers <insert here Greg Focker's line "in some crazy scheme to turn a profit, they made more than one?">

The whole line on why Gin Fizz is allegedly the benchmark to recognize a great bartender felt more like poetic gibberish rather than an actual fail proof way to distinguish them.

As someone that has watched literally years of cop dramas that not only cement a smart and attentive to details detective on years of preparation but also on cohesive and believeable deducting procedure, the writing on this show is probably on the same level as CSI: Miami, where all it matters is the "flashy bartender moves" and "cheesy cool one liners" rather than tangible evidence.

Mr. Perfect, Kuzuhara Ryuichi, is a legend of bartenders, though for Taizo, inviting Miwa to Ryu's place for a drink is quite the gesture, alongside attending to a customer who wants to quit her bartending job. As expected, Ryuichi pops up at Edenhall requesting for a Gin Fizz, and he gave him his version of a Gin Fizz, knowing that this is a test of his abilities from an amateur to a pro. This low-key infuriates Ryuichi, though this kind of compliment is standard for any bartender going pro.

The woman, Kyoko Kawakami, who visited Edenhall, thankfully hasn't quite her bartendering job, and Ryu offers his guidance for a B&B, though to her he sounds outlandish and ridiculous. And amidst the rain, Ryu and Ryuichi swap places at Bar K at Hotel Diamondstar to make Miwa's requested Manhattan for another test between the two. For Ryu, making a Manhattan that suits her circumstances is one for personal preference and consideration, but Ryuichi's Manhattan is a perfect cocktail no matter the circumstances. This, how to Miwa, feels like he won her heart through his personalized drink, and that is also one way to please his customers.

Winning the battle but losing the war? There's two sides to that coin as well.
