Series have a lot in common, for starters they have the same art style.
In both series we have group of girls who are trying to get on big stage.
In both series there are some really nice songs.
However, Idolm@ster has a bigger variety of characters and more things are going on there. It is not just music orientated but music is the main point in the series.

These shows are similar in my point of veiw by its artwork and it tends to have comedy in it the way of the characters are similar too

Both series have a fun style.
From a general perspective, both shows are musically-themed anime that integrate a heavy slice-of-life approach. Because of this, both shows are very easy to follow as there is no complicated plotline or terminology present. Also, in both shows, there is plenty of music that is sprinkled throughout the plot. Finally, both shows also have a cast that is supermajority female (if you took out the Producer in The iDOLM@STER, they'd be all female). If you liked either show you will definitely like the other.
