So far being 14 episodes in Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince has been delivering a serious alternative mech based-anime to watch besides whats in the current season. (And Valvrave ended for the season, so its really the only one left >_>)
What this show lacks in its beginning episodes, it more than makes up for it once the Fail 5 of team rabbits is thoroughly developed as pilots and humans.
Story and Plot
Set in the late 21st century, humans are colonizing the near space around earth, and it seems to be a prosperous time, until they meet an alien invader. As the show progresses you will
...
learn more about these invaders and how the humans come to acquire their Advanced High Standard Multipurpose Battle Device (AHSMB's) and why the characters are who they are.
After the first half of the series, the plot takes shape into quite the standard mecha plot line, where x is oppressed by y but makes machine whatever and now can fight y. The plot is nothing that is new and exciting persay so I'm rating it a 7/10, because for an otherwise generic plot, it is being well executed.
Characters
So far in the series up to the first half, you have the fail five: Team Rabbits (aptly named because they are the product of science!)
Each of them has a strength and flaw.
You have
Izuru - The happy go lucky artist that genuinely cares about everyone, and just wants to be a hero. He is a decent leader, and an obsessive artist.
Tamaki - The girl that just wants a boyfriend, and has a weird fetish with pickled fish guts. She has an extremely high G-force tolerance
Kei - A girl that if she ever were to get diabetes would die because of her love for sugar. Has a very high aptitude for managing real time data, and has incredible hearing
Ataru - Has a terrible obsession for all things araments. Also is incredibly farsighted, making him the teams sniper.
Toshikazu - The backup guy. Basically he's the sub commander and the most human of all the guys in the group. Has terrible acid reflex to everything.
After the first half of the season (13+) you get introduced to an insane little pilot named Ange. It (because the gender thing is in the air still) has terrible anger issues and excels at everything alone.
Art and Sound
Its a 2013 anime. The animation is HD the sound is amazing and the fight scene in episode 14 makes you want to just throw money at the animators to make more of those scenes! Besides the previous scenes were good too! Its like an all around win for the eyes and ears!
Overall: I'm loving this anime! Its giving me a Eureka seven vibe: Slow to start, awesomesauce later on.

Red Data Girl was the anime of the season that seemed like it was a filler. While it looked nice and was quite visually appealing in terms of animation, its plot and characters did not own up to the nice treatment the animators did in the studio.
Story wise, this anime seemed like something that needed a full 26 episode season to convey what they tried to convey in 13. The plot had many major holes, and the story seemed rushed throughout the majority of this series.
This is certainly not an anime to watch for the story, and if anything it was just something to
...
watch because it looked pretty. I believe you can find better out there.
Now to go over the major sections:
--Characters and Story-- 4/10
In summary: Relatively close to current time, there is a girl in the mountains of Japan that cannot touch technology because of what she is. She is a vessel for a shinto spirit goddess, and has really long hair to channel the goddesses power. Suddenly she is assigned a protector mountain monk named Miyuki to prevent evil spirits from doing her harm. Eventually they end up going to a school in Tokyo, they make friends and live happily together for the rest of their school lives after rejecting a lonely spirit.
Izumiko is a girl that basically cannot mesh with technology. She touches anything electronic and it breaks, which is caused by her being a yorishiro, that is a vessel for a kami, a shinto spirit god. In terms of her character she is completely helpless in a modern society, and throughout parts of the series she looses control of herself to the kami goddess within her who is the exact opposite of how she is in real life.
This reverse mirroring carries onto the male lead character, Miyuki in an inverse sense. Miyuki is a mountain monk, and even though he has completed his training for dealing with spirits and sorcerers, he is practically useless in fighting them. He excels at everyday things, but throughout the series he feels burdened for having to protect Izumiko from society, and those who want to take advantage of her power.
And the rest of the characters are extras that don't really make sense and don't seem to fit into what this story became too well.
Plot wise, as you may guess Miyuki's feelings of burden slowly transform into love, which makes this story that had so much potential, go completely cliche. And because this story needed to develop into a love story, it completely ruined the epic spirits story that was going on at first.
--Animation and Sound-- 8/10
The studios that made this did a good job on this at least, so visually speaking you won't be disappointed. The characters faces are kinda flat, but that's about it. I have no real complaints.
-- Entertainment Value -- 6/10
I always stick bad animes out to the end, and though it was bad, it was still a decent watch. Just to me it seemed like an emergency filler anime for the studio and station airing it.

After seeing episode nine of this series I feel compelled to write a review about it.
Suisei no Gargantia is by far the best anime of the season, even better than Shingeki no Kyojin and I am really hoping that they renew it for a second season (because I feel they will need more episodes to develop the plot.
Essentially if you have followed the series so far you know that Ledo (the main character) is a solider in the Galactic Alliance which has been in a non stop war with the Hideauze for as long as anyone can remember. Ledo like his solider counterparts were
...
bred to be soldiers, go through massive amounts of psychological altering, and ultimately are trained to hate the Hideauze with all of their being as a human. This is evidenced by Chambers continual Sleep preservation training, and his instinctual will to kill the Hideauze on sight.
When you watch this series you follow essentially the humanization of ledo as a character, from a human Hideauze killing machine to a being that thinks on his own, and it so far has been wonderful.
Now to break this down into parts.
Story & Characters: 10/10
When Ledo and Chamber first arrive on earth after the result of being lost in a wormhole, they are essentially helpless. Clueless to where they are after being in a state of cryo-stasis for 6 months, they awake to humans trying to pry Chamber open. This is where you get to meet the rest of the major characters in the series and Ledo begins living life in his own way. As the episodes progress you get to meet Amy, Ridget, Pinion, Bellows and the rest of the cast, and you see how they affect Ledo's almost machine like mentality and slowly turn him into a human being.
Art & Sound 10/10
This by far has top quality animation and sound like Shingeki no Kyojin, except with a much more vivid color palette. As many other reviewers have noted, though Shingeki may be the most original story based anime to watch this season, Suisei is the one you choose to watch for the animation.
Enjoyment Factor 10/10
I've been trying real hard to not give away too many spoilers about the anime or write a word for word plot synopsis, but this anime has it all. The story so far is killer, the animation is great, and you can just tell it was a well thought out anime. To me, it feels like an original story for an anime. I won't say that at this point I haven't seen the story in a video game, because I honestly have, but for an anime it is quite original.
So go on, watch it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Update: Corrected some spelling/grammar issues, and changed some things based off of the most recent episode.
So if you have read the other reviews so far, they're not far off besides the lets gang up and hate on Sunrise reviews.
Valvrave the Liberator is exactly what people say it is: A mecha about space Nazi's attacking peace loving Japanese vampires who are now forced to fight for their peace, with a money loving space America who wants to be heroes and defeat the Nazi's through exploiting the peace loving Japanese people.
So this anime has some major story issues, and they Xeroxed the characters out of many
...
other anime genres, it doesn't necessarily need to be dismissed as a terrible anime. If you can watch it and enjoy it, to me that is a good anime. Not a work of art like Rahxephon, Eureka Seven, or others, but a good just something to watch anime.
Out of all of the anime I am watching this season, this is one of the ones I am enjoying the most. Valvrave is like an abomination of things that should not have been mixed together, much like Hellsing was, but this mix is actually making a decent product to watch. Its funny, slightly mind numbing, and so far, it hasn't made you want to go and cry in a corner rethinking your life (I'm talking to you Evangellion).
Plot & Characters 5
Your peace loving Japanese people are forced into battle with sudo Space Nazis/Stalin Communists (Dorsia is a mix honestly), all the while the Space 'Murican's are trying to exploit their plight for their own gain.
It’s completely built on cliché’s but its actually something that isn't copied from just one thing, and that is what makes it different. It’s not like Majestic Prince where that is just a rinse and repeat mecha anime. And honestly I can’t wait to see where they take the plot for this anime.
Character wise, you have your:
Crybaby questioning life lead male character: Tokishima
Princess starlet that wants to be famous through anymeans: Rukino
Strong fearless female leader: Sashinami
Bad a#$ motherf!@#!@ that was exiled from his home land and is also an oracle?: L-Elf
Dirty American Politicians
1 Evil Space Dictator
A gaggle of School Kids
Oppressed Japanese people
And a bunch of Nazi's
The characters in this anime share similarities to meatloaf. A bunch of clichéd character traits were mixed together and molded together and made into a character, much like the many meats in a good meatloaf.
Art and Sound: 7
Its a sunrise anime. A decent amount of production has gone into this, however since It hasn't been licensed to Funimation yet I don't have a way to see the visuals in HD. Looks alright on SD. >_>
Entertainment Value: 10
This was something that should not have been made, but was made, and actually is fun to watch. Nothing more. Just waste some time and watch it already. You’ll be surprised at what you get.
