Without a doubt the most touching and beautiful manga I have ever had the pleasure to read.
It's such a gloriously simple premise - A poor young girl lives day to day looking after her little brother on next to nothing, due to absent parents. She's befriended by a young boy, her classmate, and a big fan of football/soccer.
The sheer realism is what makes it for me. It's extremely believable and grabbed me from the go. It's the most I've ever felt for a character, the little girl's struggles... god damn. Despite being so very tragic and making a genuinely say "fuck no..." at some

I found myself on a TEKKEN viewing spree after I fell in love with his work 'Furiko', which was simply a masterpiece. 'Follow Me' is yet another beautiful work from this extremely talented Director. So on with the review and my personal opinions.
Story: 9 A story of new life bringing together two broken lives. It was always going to be difficult to follow in the footsteps of Furiko (In terms of my viewing order) but 'Follow Me' provided a pretty fresh story. A story that wasn't as simple and beautifully clichéd as the masterpiece that is 'Furiko', but was just as brilliant and certainly a lot ...

I'm starting to think this director doesn't know the difference between bittersweet, and unfinished.
Byousoku 5 Centimeter is a work with immense potential, and a work that doesn't come close it fulfilling it. With a lackluster "story" and two dimensional characters, it's a miracle this managed to get a 6 from me. The art is beautiful, don't get me wrong, all of this man's work is truly awe inspiring but sadly the a film can't get by on just that. The characters made absolutely no impact and although the interactions were well written and fairly realistic, it was just an all round forgettable movie. I'm desperately ... |
