I'm starting to think this director doesn't know the difference between bittersweet, and unfinished.
Byousoku 5 Centimeter is a work with immense potential, and a work that doesn't come close it fulfilling it. With a lackluster "story" and two dimensional characters, it's a miracle this managed to get a 6 from me.
The art is beautiful, don't get me wrong, all of this man's work is truly awe inspiring but sadly the a film can't get by on just that.
The characters made absolutely no impact and although the interactions were well written and fairly realistic, it was just an all round forgettable movie.
I'm desperately trying to think of something positive besides the art and honestly, nothing comes to mind. I just feel as though the director was trying too hard to make the story as artistic as the art.
