Zombieland saga remains a very fun and unique show. The question is how it balances its absurdism, both with this sequel and in the upcoming movie.
I'm not going to spoil major plot points, but I will be bringing up a few examples to make my point clearer. Don't read if you want to go in blind.
STORY:
Revenge starts in Medias Res, which was a very smart decision. It basically returns the cast to the status quo and gives us time to rediscover the characters, before diving back into the plot of this season. The pull of Zombieland Saga lies in watching these cute girls try their

absolute hardest at the silliest things, which turn out to be the right actions by the end. This is at its strongest when they have all cards are against them; you cant really do that anymore when they are succeeding.
When I watched Love Live, I thought it very much resembled a sports anime. They have a goal and compete for it and by the end, there isn't anything interesting left for those characters to do, so it ends when they achieve their goal. There is nothing wrong with that perse, (neither am I saying that all sports anime are like that, but I have only ever watched Haikyuu, so how would I know?)
This is not what Zombieland saga tries to do. I think this season succeeds in having that feeling of working towards that goal, without ever having to sacrifice that what makes them interesting or likable. Obviously, because they are Zombies they will always have a disadvantage, but their connection to the people of Saga also helps to make them feel grounded.
But what I am most impressed by, is how by the end they manage to find a way for them not to have to go back to that status quo in order to pull you back in in the sequel. No I'm not just talking about what you think I'm talking about if you've watched the last episode. By the end, their connection to the people of saga has become their main driving force. It really feels as if they've managed to break away from a love live type of idol show formula and found their story.
That being said, I found a lot of the ways they are trying to get there a bit clumsy. The next example will be from episode 5, an episode centered around Lily. Spoilers for that episode:
So in episode 5, Lily competes against a child star named Oozara Light. Light pretends to be sweet child, but he's actually very cunning and talks about how he wont just remain a child star, that his plan is to one day be on broadway. The general idea of the episode is this:
Light is a foil to Lily: they are both child stars and Light talks a lot about his worries of growing up and falling out of favor. This is something Lily can obviously relate to; since worrying about growing up is even what got her killed as we saw in season one. Lily and Light both make it to the finals, but then Light goes first and ends up singing the same song Lily wanted to sing. Lily panics, but then finds a way to wow the audience despite singing the same song that Light did. Light sees how amazing Lily is and realises that he could never do what she just did. But then the jury vote for Light to win "because he shows potential beyond just being a child star" Lily congratulates Light, which frustrates him. They have a chat about it and both Light and Lily have grown as people in the end.
So on paper, I think this is a good storyline, but the execution leaves so much to be desired. Firstly, in their first act, Lily preforms a rakugo act, which amazes everyone. Rakugo is not an easy art form and engaging people with it shows Lilys great acting skill. Then Light goes up and he does a juggling routine. In the middle he slips up by letting a bean bag fall to the ground. The jury is seen contemplating voting him out, but then he shouts "NEBER GIBU UPPU" and he ups the performance by 200% Then we hear him thinking to himself that his plan worked, that he managed to create a narrative where you are rooting for him despite messing up a little bit.
Then in the final act, Light sings the song "life" a song Lily loves. Its a very sweet slow song and he sings it like a little angel. Lily, who changes plan while Light is still on stage, writes a remix of the score for "life", changes it to a scatman song, completely DIYS her outfit to the mood and even improvises a little dance. All in the time while Light was singing his song.
So I REALLY don’t get this narrative. I get what its trying to do, but it just doesn't really connect point A to point B awfully well. So Light won "because he showed promise beyond being a child actor" but he went with a very childish narrative? With juggling he purposfully messed up, because he wanted people to cheer him on because he is a kid with so much spirit, which is something that I don't get in the first place, but I can still let that slide- then he sings Life, which is a super sweet song that completely fits the image of a child star.
Then Lily comes in, does a rakugo performance, which is the exact opposite of something you would associate with a young child and then improvises a song ON THE SPOT...
AND LIGHT IS THE ONE WHO SHOWS PROMISE?
Theres a lot of moments in Revenge where I really like the general idea of the story, but not the execution. It really is a shame, because this easily could've been changed to something that made a little more sense.
So in general: Revenge has a good grasp on it's story goals, but falters occasionally in execution.
ART:
The art is still great. I love the desings and the CG models really got an upgrade this season. They always find silly and inventive ways to do the concerts, which makes it funny to watch. If anything I'd say this show would have a lot to gain from a bit more visual humor, but that's not to say it doesn't have that. The colours are still great, the background art is still great. Yeah, it's pretty solid.
SOUND:
Okay. So don't get me wrong. The opening is SO HYPE. There is a lot of songs that I LOVE... but... BUT.....
For a show that has such a focus on music... I'm not saying it's bad or avarage,, but it just stands out if your music isn't amazing.
In a later episode we hear an old song that Junko had made. It is supposedly REALLY famous and was featured in commercials..., but its just this avarage song. It's not bad, but it's just hard to imagine that this song would be SO popular.
Same with Lily's scatman song, which gets popular online after the contest. I have no issue saying this song is bad though haha. I like her singing voice, but hearing her do a scatman song is just really annoying and I skipped it because of that.
I just wonder if there were multiple people writing the music? I'm the opposite of a music expert, but I would've enjoyed to see more different FEELING music. There is a lot of different genres in this season, but nothing really feels distinct except for the OP.
CHARACTER:
I really like the chemistry of the group and I feel as if it builds really well throughout the episodes. None of the conflicts feel annoying and I'm never thinking "why are these people even friends"
I like that there isn't too much fanservice, especially regarding Lily since she is like 12 years old. But the lack of panty shots and the like really make this show SOOOOO much more accessible. As a woman I really cant enjoy shows that have a cast of female characters that just exist to appeal to men. Even if there isn't a lot of sexual fanservice, you can really feel it when female characters aren't allowed to be characters. These characters aren't the deepest in anime ever, but they dont NEED to be.
I know this director previously worked on Precure and I think it really shows in how the characters are handled, it makes me really happy.
I found the characters in Yugiri's backstory a bit annoying, which sucked becauseI really liked her story, I just hated that we had to see it through the eyes of such an annoying character. Mamoru Miyano voicing unconfident characters like that usually is just annoying, he's a lot better suited voicing cocky characters, like Koutarou.
Koutarou had some good development this season. I am still not 100% on board with this type of character, but I like the comedy he brings.
Something I didn't like was Sakis crush on the old radio dude. It was just a bit creepy, I would've liked it a lot more if she just respected him as a radio host or something.
So overall, I'd say this season had the right amount of character development. Some characters that lacked it from the previous seasons got some episodes. Sakura was the viewpoint from the previous season and she definitely has less to do in this season, but I do think they keep her from being useless, thankfully,
ENJOYMENT & OVERALL:
Zombieland Saga brings a very unique experience that continues and improves itself in this sequel. I have faith that the upcoming movie will be good too and I'm just overall really happy this show exists. What more can you ask?

So I am a big fan of magical girl shows and when I wanted to watch a somewhat shorter show, I landed on this one. It's short, it's sweet, it's a magical girl anime: I enjoyed myself.
But seriously guys, the main conflict of this show is beyond stupid.
STORY
So the story... In my opinion, the show moves through it's story beats relatively well and it doesn't try to be too complicated or sophisticated.
Which,, might be what's the problem here. The conflict in this show is SO melodramatic and #firstworldproblems , it's just plain funny. I wanted Himeno to roast the main villain for her ridiculous

motivation so badly, but alas, the plot took itself seriously.
If you are above the age of 14, you probably can't take this story too seriously.
It is very much a magical girl show centered around the romance, so if that isn't your thing, then I'd stay away.
Some of the humour is a bit outdated. Some of it was still funny and a few jokes were a bit yikes (mostly centered around Tanaka, the butler, who isn't against the idea of one of the girls falling in love with him, apparently), but most of it just fall flat to me.
The theming is a bit lackluster in my opinion. So it's based on Snow White,, but only in the sense that her father remarries rich and her new family member don't treat her right sometimes; her father isn't dead or anything. Which, as a setting, I liked surprisingly well, but then you have this whole Leife deal, which brings in a more "everything is alive and connected" type of theming, but it doesn't really do that much with that either? Like I said, this show is mostly about who will become whose boyfriend by the end lol
ART
I REALLY love Himeno's general design and transformations, it's just really iconic. Her hair looks really bright in the pictures on this website, but her hair is such a beautiful soft orange in the show...
Her transformations are very dated and it's not something you'd see nowadays, but that's what I really love about it. It's also more pastel instead of the BRIGHT colours you'd see in say Tokyo Mew Mew a few years later. One thing I really liked about the character designs are her LONG legs
The transformation sequence itself isn't bad, but not my favourite.
SOUND
The opening is really good, I listen to it pretty often haha. It's honestly one of the reasons why I wanted to watch this show.
didn't notice the OST that much, but I did really like some of the voice acting, Himeno's VA in particular. She has a very soothing voice.
CHARACTER
Himeno is a very stereotypical main character. Eats a lot, loud, is physically ridiculously strong, but very sweet on the inside, ect. ect. But I do think it was executed well enough. I liked her and the way she treats the younger characters in the show.
Anyobdy else notice that Hayate is just EXACTLY like Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi? lol
I liked the male characters in this show, I liked their dynamic with Himeno and their designs. Some of them get development, which is good. I liked the younger characters a lot, I think they were very cute!
This show has that one magical girl cliche that was really prevalent around this time, which is good character turns evil~ ooohh,,- I have yet to see this executed well honestly... Like,, brainwashing is fine, but I specifically mean this trope where they are jealous or something and that is their motivation for turning evil haha
ENJOYMENT
Yeah, I enjoyed myself. It wasn't exceptional, but I hadn't really expected it to be that way either. I think it was the perfect length and it had some definite merits (designs and the opening) But i don't think you should watch this if you aren't into shows from this era or into magical girl shows
OVERALL
It's a real 6/10 for me. If it had a better conflict I would have liked it way better, but it's not too long so it's watchable.

This review isn't completely spoiler free. I won't spoil any of the plot twists, but I assume my readers know the gist of what this show is about.
It's no coincidence that the most recommended anime for this show is Madoka Magica; they are very similar. In my opinion it also shares similarities to the 2007's anime Bokurano, in which children are also made to fight without their consent. Although not an original idea I do still think this particular show has merit in its existence.
By the time of writing this review I have yet to have seen any sequels or prequels.
STORY:
The story is what is

the problem here: it's a diet madoka. I don't necessarily think that's the worst thing ever, but it's not going to win any originality awards. However, the pacing is decent enough (which in my eye is one of the most important things in anime,) and it doesn't try to baffle you with it's plot twists, even though it has one or two up it's sleeve. If you pay attention to the opening lyrics it already kind of tells you what is waiting for the girls.
Even still it has good conflict and and a satisfying ending.
ART:
I am quite a fan of the designs in this show. It feels very fresh and sleek. The transformed outfits are cute, without being overly overbearingly so and they fit the theme of flowers nicely without it being just a literal flower dress. It also looks a bit mech inspired. The transformations themselves are okay, but not amazing.
Animation is okay.
One thing I do dislike about this show is it's random and occasional placement of fanservice. Regardless of me being not a fan of fanservice in general, random boob jiggles and ass shots really don't fit with the vibes of this show. It's really not that often however, so it's not the worst.
SOUND:
I really like this soundtrack, i'm not a musical person so I usually don't have much to say on this part, but the soundtrack in this show really fits the sleek and fresh aura of the show, even fitting in with the flower theme. The voice acting is also really good, they're all cute but not annoying
CHARACTER:
Possibly the best thing about this show. They all have good dynamic and individual goals and troubles. They're not the most complex, but they don't need to be. They are really memorable, and I still remembered them years later now that I rewatched this show. Especially near the end there's some good character development.
One of the most important reason to me for people to watch this show is the representation of disability: it's not perfect, and I really think this show could've distinguished itself more if it had leaned into this aspect, but there still is a main character in a wheelchair and they show her living her daily life and fighting alongside her friends. There really aren't that many magical girls like her, so I highly recommend this show if you want more diversity in your magical girls.
ENJOYMENT & OVERALL:
Good short anime to watch if you're in the mood for a magical girl show for an older crowd. I really can't give it an 8, because of the drawbacks, but it's a very strong 7 for me overall.

It seems I only end up writing reviews for shows I have a lot of negative things to say about. Black Cat is by far the least inspired Shonen (This was originally in shonen jump btw, for 4 years;; ) I have ever seen.
Take this review with a grain of salt. I was paying minimal attention through out the show, because it really failed to capture my attention.
STORY:
The setting and world building is AWFUL, I seriously don't know what they were going for... The setting feels like what a Japanese man would imagine the west in the 2000's to be like, but it makes 0

world building sense. (apart from it being WILDLY inaccurate in my European eyes) I JUST finished this show and I can't remember a single location accurately. (I feel like they fought at castles and mansions a lot?)
There are the Sweepers, Chronos and the Apostle’s, but you don't get the impression that any of these organisations influence the world around them, or that this world would warrent the existence of these types of organisations in the first place. The setting is so bland, that at one point I forgot that it was supposed to take place in a world with computers. (which is dumb because nano technology is a big part of the show)
So this world has Taoists and nanomachines, which enable the users grand powers. It reminds me of a certain magical index, where there is an opposition of magic and technology, but this story does nothing with these sources of power, they just exist as an excuse to have cool powers. But then you have Train who just has protagonist powers, which really cheapens the impact of any imbalance that nano technology or tao could have brought into the story.
Don't really care about the story, it's super tropey and cliche, which it no doubt feels that way to me as a modern viewer, but I doubt this was such an innovator even back then.
This show has a tendency to undercut serious moments with stupid bullshit that's just really fillery and boring. Like, something serious can happen, but the show turns it into a joke and all tension is lost. Train turning into a kid is a good example; it leads NOWHERE.
ART:
Not awful, but not good, certainly not for todays standards.
SOUND:
God, I hated the sountrack. Those arias in the fights were so annoying.
CHARACTER:
There aren't necessarily any characters that infuriated me or anything, but I didn't really love the dynamics between the characters either. Rinslet was absolutely useless, and it felt as if she was only there to have more female characters.
Train was just an angsty protagonist, with the blandest personality imaginable.
I liked Eve, but the show was mostly about Creed. Although I think the show didn't do him any favours, it was extremely pleasing for me to watch a male yandere character. It was the reason I started this show, if I'm honest. I don't think his development is the best, but he is the most memorable thing about this show.
ENJOYMENT:
I skipped through some parts honestly, it was so boring.
OVERALL:
I think in general, this is just a product of its time. It's not something that would be made today. I enjoy anime from this time period occasionally, despite it's common trappings, but this one really wasn't for me. I doubt many modern viewers can enjoy this show like people did when it aired. Even then I think something like Soul Eater or maybe even Fairy Tail (forgive me) that have somewhat stronger settings despite their faults.
This show doesn't have a good setting, lots of cliches, boring characters, bad art so yeah, nothing for me to love. Not the most incompetent thing in the world, but so not worth your time.

I saw this shows rating, saw that it was an otome version of the normal isekai formula and thought; finally, the isekai for me. I really enjoy otome games, so obviously I have to watch this. Sadly, I must say I was a bit disappointed. I guess I expected a little more otome and a little less Isekai.
-STORY-
The absolute weakest part of the show. The premise is great and does most of the heavy lifting to make this show interesting, which is never a good thing. I think they really wasted the premise, because if they had made it more essential to the rest of

the story, it could've really made for some interesting scenarios. A good example for that would be ReZero, where the initial premise keeps being important to the story and the character development.
The first few episodes do this by showing us how Catherina is changing the people around her with her kind nature, which is really interesting! But after she has changed everybody it just turns in a regular old isekai anime. The type where you can take out any kind of gimmick the show might have had and nothing would've changed.
The setting doesn't mean shit. It's like a fantasy setting, but nothing is done as far as world building is concerned, ESPECIALLY once they get to the school. Which also, the school only introduces tired cliches into the story which it really didn't need. They could've made the school setting more important to the story without using these annoying tropes, think Little Witch Academia, but why would you if you only need it as an excuse to why these characters are together all the time.
Don't really find it all too funny either, I don't feel like there were a lot of attempts at jokes either. What saved it for me was the pacing for the most part. Like, not the actual pacing of the story progression, because that is basically beginning, episodes of padding and a conclusion at the end, which I really dislike, but the scene to scene pacing, which when done well, will make any show watchable.
Obvious twist is obvious.
-ART-
Very standard. Now, to me, one of the most important things in any otome is the character designs. I really hate it when an otome game is comprised of just the most boring looking people. It's almost more important to me than the actual personality of the character. (I know, how shallow of me! But don't expect better of otome fans lol)
In this show the character designs are... distinctive enough? They aren't interesting in my opinion, but they aren't as boring as some otome games can be. Which to be fair says more about otome games than it does about Isekai, because these designs are definitely more isekai then they are otome.
Once again, I should've expected more isekai than otome, but here we are.
-SOUND-
Don't like the opening, skipped the ending most of the time, the soundtrack never bothered me and the voice acting didn't either. I'm not an expert on this field, so I'll leave it at that.
WAIT- ONE OF THE SONGS ON THE SOUNDTRACK REALLY SOUNDS LIKE YOSHIKAGE KIRAS THEME AND I JUST REALISED WHILE WATCHING THE LAST EPISODE-
okay that's all.
-CHARACTER-
The MOST important thing in any otome game; the love interests. What is their gimmick/trope, how are they unique, what are their flaws, what do they think of the main character? That is what makes good otome games interesting in my opinion; a nice balance between enjoyable tropes and emotional character development.
Well, I was wrong to expect this from this anime, because this show isn't an otome type of show. It is a reverse harem isekai show and it plays out like most harem shows. The characters meet the main character, their lives are bettered by them and then they fall in love and tag along with the harem conga line. Not my thing.
Ironically enough, Catherina is my favourite character of the main cast. You do kind of root for her, but all the other characters I just end up really tired with. I get it, the main character is your sole motivation and the only character you ever want to speak with.
Seriously, none of the love interests have that much of a dynamic going on besides for the first few episodes. It's all about Catherina and what she wants, which just really kills any dynamic this show could have had.
I don't think the characters are awful, but the lack of interesting dynamic to any of the other characters combined with all their development happening at the utmost beginning of the show really makes them feel flat. Like they only ever talk about how they love Catherina, how is that interesting?
-ENJOYEMENT-
Boring ending to a show that had a lot more opportunity. I think it's kind of funny how this show basically appropriates otome games to make a super standard isekai story.
Now to list the good parts all in one place, since most of my points are negative: interesting setting and good first few episodes, scenes don't drag on for too long and Catherina is an enjoyable character, you really want to root fo her succes. Just as many female love interests as there are male ones, if that is something you're looking for.
Final verdict: reverse harem/10. Do not understand the high rating tbh, y'all new here?

You know exactly what you are going to get out this anime; it is exactly what it seems like. Even so it really delivers a good performance. But despite executing everything well enough, I feel this show is just really forgettable and it just about misses the mark for being an interesting show.
STORY:
The story of Otome Youkai Zakuro is fairly cliché as far as supernatural shoujo goes. Even so, the pacing is really decent and it ends satisfying. It doesn't waste your time either; there's no misunderstandings, love triangles or other things that simply exist to delay the story.

predictable and nothing special, but enjoyable non the less. The pacing was good, satisfying ending, it's all that I want out of anime really.
Also this is one of those anime that takes place during the early westernization of Japan before WWII, which i have always found an interesting setting. The plot sometimes touches on this too, so you might want to watch this if you enjoy this type of setting, although it is not the main focus in this anime. (I don't know enough about Japanese history to tell you which period it is, sorry.)
One thing I do have to warn you about especially if you're sensitive for these topics, (slight spoiler?) is that the plot involves incestuous rape to some extent (not shown, but it is threatened with towards the characters) so avoid it if you are sensitive to such topics.
ART
The art is solid, the animation isn't really anything special, but it's solid enough. The action scenes are decent, the action isn't purely made up out of stills, but I wouldn't call it amazing, especially with todays standards.
The character designs are all cute and recognizable and I quite enjoy them, but not necessarily iconic or anything. The main guy sometimes reminded me of the art-style from rose of versailles; it's all super shoujo, big eyes and everything.
SOUND
The opening is pretty fun? IDK if I'll listen to it later on, but it was ok. The soundtrack did not stand out to me. Sound design wasn't distracting and voice acting was ok. I enjoyed their performances, nuff said.
CHARACTER
Possibly the weakest aspect? The characters are very cliche, but to their credit, they never take it too far either. The main girl is a tsundere, but she never gets violent or anything; considering her personality it's all pretty reasonable. Character growth is a thing and it's executed well enough, so that's good.
now for the romance uwu
The romance in this show is pretty cute. I like the dynamic the main two have, it's pretty cute. They are both respectful towards each other, which is good, good feelings all around. They really develop something too, it really is satisfying to watch.
I actually liked some of the other romances way more if I'm honest, like the bald guy and the black haired girl, they were VERY CUTE, but I think we spend enough time on them, more time spend with those characters would've felt unnatural.
ENJOYMENT
Yeah I enjoyed myself, but if you ask me about this anime a few months down the line, I probably won't have remembered much of it.
OVERALL
I can't decide whether I'm being too favorable or being too harsh, but I suppose that in the end this show really is just a really nice solid 6/10 for me.

I went into this anime not expecting much and I think that is why I enjoyed it so much. If I had to sum it up; if this seems like the type of anime that you would dislike, then you will dislike it. If it seems like the type of anime you will enjoy then you won't necessarily enjoy it.
STORY- 6
It's a very typical story for this kind of show and it doesn't really do anything outstanding. One thing that really spiked my enjoyment for this show is how it handled it's cliff hangers. I think they were timed perfectly, I just had to watch

the next episode, despite it not really being that mindblowing.
However! What the show does, it does well. It's satisfying to watch and I personally never really felt like it was wasting all that much time. Although the middle was a bit more boring than the rest of the show, the show never really gets back to square one, nor does it have any arcs that don't have anything to do with the main plot.
One thing that was almost funny was the show's fanservice. Sex is very much a thing in this show and it is discussed at length, (it can be a bit insensitive at times for today's standards) with one of the plot points being the main character's virginity status. But this definitively isn't a hentai or even an ecchi really, it truly is fanservice for its target audience: young teenage girls.
ART- 4
The weakest part of the show. But, to be perfectly honest with you, sometimes I just want to have something on while doing other stuff. so the lack of pretty visuals REALLY didn't bother me... This was the perfect show to just have on in the background, look at the screen once in a while, while doing homework and other tasks.
If anything, it is refreshing to watch an older show once in a while, if just for a change of pace.
The art isn't good. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
SOUND- 7
I actually liked the soundtrack. Again, it might just be the change of pace with this being an older show, but the opening and ending are enjoyable to listen to and I never really felt the need to skip them. The show has a tendency to play character songs, which you know.... It never really does make the sad moments sadder.
I will listen to the soundtrack later on youtube to see if I like it separately, but it again is nothing special.
CHARACTERS- 5
Here we get to the part that might be a deal-breaker to many people. Miaka, the main character, she is, well... annoying. I personally did not find her that annoying, but I know that is how many people describe this type of character. The closest comparison would be Usagi (or Serena, whatever floats your boat) from sailor moon. I think those two even share a voice actor, that's how archetype-y Miaka is.
She is a glutton, lazy, dumb and a damsel in distress, who just needs to help out despite not being able to contribute, because damnit, we need to further the plot somehow!! But she has a heart of gold and always does her best to do the right thing. Yeah... that kind of character.
I personally don't find this type of character to be that annoying, because... yeah, I am like that too lol. And I really don't think she is the worst that this archetype has to offer, but you should stay away if this kind of thing bothers you.
I think that Yui Hongo is WAAYYY worse of a character than Miaka, but I'd have to go into spoilers as to why. Let's just say that the story doesn't do her any favours; she isn't allowed much room in the role the story assigned her and it makes her actions seem unreasonable.
The villain was mediocre.
The best characters were definitively Miaka's brother and his best friend, they were pretty funny.
All the other characters are OK I guess, no favourites here. (Although Hotohori is definitively better than Tamahome, just saying)
ENJOYMENT & OVERALL- 7 & 6
Enjoyable is the best way to describe this show. I enjoyed it, it was nice to have on in the background, but it is not really a favourite nor is it good enough that I would go out of my way to recommend it to people. I think you definitely need to have a taste for this kind of show to enjoy it and if you don't think you are that type of person, then I would stay away.
