That is a great question... Honestly speaking i dont really remember much about either of the shows, but firstly I think the main issue with fate for me personally is the fact that one of my friends told me that i should start with unlimited blade works before fate zero + i had already tried to watch fate stay night so to me... i didnt really notice anything wrong, neither did i read the synopsis nor check the actual order of them... Therefore i got completely spoiled the ending of fate zero.

Secondly i started watching unlimited blade works due to a deal i made with said friend and honestly... i hated the first season of it... So the rating of the second season might be a bit biased due to 3 reasons. 1)I really liked the action in the second season(mostly the main characters ability + gilgamesh abilities) 2)It was way more enjoyable than the first season. 3)I really loved Gilgamesh.
Now i cant go in depth why i rated it an 8, because i dont remember much, but if i think about it... i really dont have many positive memories of the second season and the story was quite shit... a good amount of deus ex machina... so since you have brought it to my attention and i agree that this rating aint right... i will remove it. Not change it since i dont remember enough to properly rate it.

Fate in general, aside from the summons who are top tier characters, i really dislike almost all the other characters in fate.

About Fate Zero... thinking about it the story is significantly better than unlimited blade works... personally didnt enjoy it a whole lot... aside from some parts, it felt boring. Some of the characters were annoying(i think it was all the women associated with the main character). For whatever reason in the second season they really enjoyed choking women. The ending was completely spoiled to me by the unlimited blade works(kind of my bad there).

Small reminder. My argument is that they are both combat oriented Shonen with the themes of friendship, loyalty and never giving up. Having shared themes and falling within they same archetypes and sharing tropes. Is not the comparison justified?
