Similarly to Nitaboh, Mashiro no Oto revolves around the traditional Japanese instrument "shamisen". Both of the anime follow the arduous lives of the protagonists as they put their heart and soul into playing shamisen. One of the prime differences between these two anime is that while Nitaboh is set in a pre-modern era, Mashiro no Oto is set in the present timeline. Furthermore, the latter is thematically more rich and varied than the former—mainly because it's a TV anime, whereas Nitaboh is only an hour and a half long movie.

DomeKano and GE are written and illustrated by the same person, Kei Sasuga. The art is a lot more beautiful in DomeKano. The story, despite being melodramatic and "trashy" at times, is genuinely good for the most part. The characters are also very well-written. If you liked GE, I think you'll enjoy reading DomeKano as well since both of these manga tackle similar topics such as romance, social anxiety, friendship, etc. Edit: The ending of DomeKano is appalling
