Alien 9 is a bizarre and sadly very much underrated coming of age story. It is set in a school which suffers from constant daily alien attacks. Most of the aliens are best-like creatures both in mind and body. Our protagonists are three 12 year old school girls who were in one way or another recruited in the Alien control party.
The basic look and premise of the show do not appear to be special from the first glance, yet mere minutes are enough to see that you are into something much more than just another high-school, moe, action anime. There are a few things

that make Alien 9 very distinct and give a bizarre and unique feel to the show. First of all the directing. It is slow and methodical with each and every shot meaning something or adding to the underlying themes and overall surreal feel of the show. The smart directing is accompanied by an offbeat soundtrack that helps build the atmosphere. The moe style that the show uses makes the disturbing parts provide even more impact. The tactic that some future shows also used, like Madoka Magica.
The anime itself (at least in my understanding) is a scary allegory of growing up, blooming and being afraid to be left behind. What sets apart this coming of age story from many others is that it is made from the girl's point of view.
The characters I found to be very relatable and well written. The voice actors also did a terrific job.
A downside to otherwise amazing series is that it only adapts the half of the story from manga. The ending does not answer all questions and the story is ultimately left unfinished. While there were attempts to revive the show, it is still stuck in the developmental limbo and has been so for close to 15 years. It is unlikely that we will ever get the rest. Even without the ending. I do advise reading the manga as it is only 3 volumes long and the anime adapts the first 1.5 volumes.
As it stands the show is still very much a fantastic, emotional and thought provoking ride through and through. Sadly this anime is very much underrated and mostly unappreciated. I urge people to give it a try, especially if you are into psychological, thought provoking and disturbing anime.

The second season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders is the when all the real stuff of the 3rd part of JoJo manga happens.
It picks up right where the first season left off and doesn't waste a moment to start doing what Stardust Crusaders does best, and that is episodic, intense, imaginative fights. Not much is changed in the overall sturcture of the show. It still follows the formula of traveling from one place to another, and encountering new enemies on the way in an episodic manner.

season is where most of the better fights from the manga take place. The fights in the second season are longer and way more intense and imaginative. The fact that unlike the first season, the second one has a define ending, really helps the show too. I honestly think that both season should be judge as one anime show, because they are just a single story, divided in two parts, because it would take too many episdoes to adapt it all in one season.
The show is still over the top as all and rather silly or dumb at places. Thankfuly it knows when not to take itself seriously and thus the sillyness never really hinders the experience too much.
This season has a healty dose of fun episodes and moments, is also has a healthy amount of rather touching and sad parts. Some characters get a bit more development, some don't. We also get a new character in the face of Iggy the dog, who is heck lot of fun to watch and really adds to the chemistry of the entire group.
The art style is still awesome looking. The soundtrack is more of the same for the most part, not that there is anything wrong with that. The soundtrack for the first season was really good by itself. Even if the animation itself is pretty static, the design,style and directing make the anime look wonderful.
Overall it is a darn great finale for the adaptation of the third part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventrue manga. It left me completely satisfied and I really hope they will keep adapting the manga into more seasons of anime. After all the next part: Part 4 Diamond is Unbreakable is really great.

So a guy gets a bunch of tickets, which make a certain loli witch, that now lives with him, make his wishes come true. The only catch is, when he uses all the tickets, he will die, but the witch does not actually know that....add to the mix that the anime is about a perverted schoolboy and you will get a rather generic, but at times fun slice of lify anime.
There is really not much to this anime. The jokes are usually the cliche over the top and perverted ones. Nothing really significant happens at all, and there is a beach episode, just to show

how much of an average, cliche anime this one is.
I am still not going to lie and will say, that this anime can be a bit funny sometimes and can be a bit touching sometimes. Still the humour can be rather tasteless and generic and the characters are mostly carbon cutouts.
The animation is absolutley nothing spectacular. It is actually below average, but the show like that does not really need good animation that much.
So overall what I am trying to say, is that this is just an average/sligltly above average slice of life anime. You can get a few chuckles out of it and forget about it's existance in a few days. Nothing special, but nothing too awful too.

So this anime is basicly Japanese lesbian middle-schoolers doing cute and entertaining stuff (the yuri stuff never gets past sort-of unintentional kiss). If this sounds entertaining or fun to you, then congratulations. You will probably find this anime very enjoyable.
There is honestly not too much else to say about this anime. The characters are charismatic and likable. The interactions between them are well written and feel very natural. The overall art and animation are nice, good on the eye and quite a joy to watch. The opening and ending is good.

not make it bad. At it's core it is a very well written, well executed, funny and relaxing slice of life anime. As I said if you found the first sentince to be to your taste, than you will love it. If you are not into these kind of things well....there is nothing to see here for you.
This anime is a difinition of a relaxing and joyful slice of life anime done right...with a bit of soft yuri.

Mousou Dairinin is a wonderful anime. I will not be recapping the premise and ETC, because you can easily read it on this very site just by making a few clicks.
Right from the start I will say, if you are into psychology and such, you will surely love this anime. If you are not into these kind of things and they make you bored, than this anime is probably not for you.
The show itself for the most part, bears an episodic sturcture, while still maintaining the overarcing plot. The anime does this very well, with a huge chunk of episodes by themselves being better than
...
a lot of other full shows. Mousou Dairinin does it by carefuly and subtely exploring the human psychology and mind as well as society as a whole. Every episode brings something new and interesting to the table, and you will surely not be left uninterested, if you are into these kind of things.
Of course the show could not do all that, without having well written and compelling characters and believe me Mousou Dairinin has them in spades. You could write a report on almost if not every character in this show, which says a lot when most of them only play a major role in 1 episode, and only make cameos or part-time appearances afterwards.
The animation is very nice and fluent for it's time and it still holds up very well. The directing is magnificent and never fails to captivate you.
To top it all off the show has hunting Opening and Ending, which greatly add to the experience. I don't remember skipping a single opening or ending.
My only true gripe with this show, and it is a major one (sort of spoilers ahead). After about 8-9 episodes of masterful and subtle storytelling, the creators decide to flush all the said subtlety in the toilet and just explode all over us with some pretty nonesensical story twists. While the first 7-8 episodes made you guess, if there was any paranormal stuff involved, the last few episodes threw the allconsuming darkness goo and monsters at us. Sadly it does put a dent on the show as a whole. Still the genious of the first 10 or so episodes is still worth your time moreso than a majority of other shows.
Mousou Dairinin is a great show, that could be perfect, but lost the plot at the end. Despite that, it is still one of my favourite anime shows. A hidden gem, that sadly not too many people know about. Give it a watch.

Madoka Magica is not your standart magical girl show, but you probaby already know that because "Not your typical magical girl show" is the most oftenly used phrase to describe this anime. Still it is true nonetheless.
The show is a rather unusual and dramatic twist on an everyday magical girl show. The main word being dramatic. There are fights, transformations and monsters but the thing this show dedicates most attention to is drama. A well written and for the most part beautifly executed drama. The show takes a huge advantage of the protagonists being 14 or so year old girls to explore the psychology of
...
teens and how they can balance and swiftly change between bright hope and endless despair. I can boldly call this anime a master of controlling and manipulating the mood, atmosphere and the undertones to it's advantage to make you feel just what the show wants you to feel. Rarely I have seen the show knowing just what buttons to push and when to tell an deep, adult and intruiging story.
Another word that I would use to describe the story would be gripping. Now people throw that word to left and right like it is nothing and I don't think we should treat it that way. I have seen many good and interesting anime shows which were not neccerely gripping. Madoka Magica is really what I can call a gripping show. The episodes flow into each other flawlessly and always make you want to watch more without using the cheap tactics like awful cliffhangers at the end of the episode which did not really bring anything cool in the following episode but were impemented only for you to turn on the next epsode.
The reasons for being that gripping is that the pacing of the show is near flawless after the first 2 episodes. As I said the story flows with no filler and no time spent on unneccery things. The dialoges are well written and the voice actors did an outstanding job.
The show also had a memorable soundtrack with nice opening and amazing ending. And that says a lot because I mostly skip my endings even if the song is not bad. The reason that the ending stands out is not only because of the song (Which is wonderful) but because of the way it was implemented and how the last scenes smoothly flow into the said ending. The original soundtrack itself always helps create a special mood and is subtle when needed and energyzing when the scene demands it.
The animation of the show is superb. There are not as many fight scenes as one would hope but they are all animated and stylized in a great fashion. The style change when the protagonists fight witches is imaginative and always cool to look at. Still this anime often reuses the same shots of character animations especially in dialoge. It is more apperent in the second half of the show. Still it looks more like a directing technique than the means to save some budget.
From here the review enters the spoiler section because to explain the things I did not like about the show I need to get more in depth into the story. If you have not watched this anime I urge you to do so and I also urge you to avoid any and all spoilers concerning it because it can really ruin the whole experience for you.
Now it is time to discuss the things I did not like about the show and really all of them come from the last 4 or so episodes. To tell the truth the frist 8 episodes are near flawless and are a 9 or 10 out of 10 material. I can't say the same thing about the rest of the show. It was still rather good but not as good as what preceeded it at least in my opinion.
I will start with a small nitpick which is the thing I personaly find a bit silly. The fact that the universe runs on the energy which is collected by aliens by giving young girls powers to turn into magical girls and then gather even more energy from their despair as they turn into witched is a bit silly to me. Yes it is a magical girls show and this kind of thing does not seem that much of a silly concept for the genre but this show had a completely different tone. Still it may just be me.
The real problems I have with this show started with the show introducing us to the information that one of the protagonists is a time traveler and that she has relieved this events many time already to try to get the different outcome but she always failed and went back in time to relieve these events again to try to fix things and make the outcome different. First of all it is rather dumb that she has the powers of complete time travel but only travels to a single perioud of time. I think anyone would think of going back a little further than a few weeks to try to fix things after you have failed numerious times. The anime did not set any limitations on her powers so it is not like she can travel only to that set time a few weeks ago. Often she failed only because the events she tried to stop from happenening already started happening at that time she returned to. You would think she had enough brians to go a bit further into the past.
The fact that the whole show till the end was just another timeline she traveled really and I mean REALLY undermined the events that happened before we were introduced to this twist. I mean why should I care if I knew that she could and did come back in time so that the events happened in a different way? The first part of the show starts feeling rather unimportant even though it was much better than the last few episodes.
The other problem I have is the ending. I was left unsatisfied with it and it produced close to no impact on me. It leaves many questions and answeres close to none of them. The protagonist becomes a sort of "God" and just waves her hand to fix everything and make everything good...well at least it would be good if she actually thought the wish through. While better, what she wished for was not really a good solution to the problem.
Also one thing. The collosal potential of the main protagonist is explained as following. The more impact the magical girl has on the fate of the world and ETC the more powerful she becomes. But following that logic the time traveling protagonist should wield far greater power. She has the power to travel through time and basicly holds the fate of the unverse in her hands to some extent and it is only because of her obsession that the main protagonist has this much of an impact of the fate of the universe. In reality the timetraveler is the one who has a much bigger impact. I mean the universe has repeated the same few weeks a dozzen times just because she wanted to save her friend.
Still all of that issues may not bug you at the end of the day, but they did bug me.
To tell the truth overall I stil highly enjoyed the show, especially the first 8 or so episdoes. I can't be mad at this show beacuse in it's first half alone it accomplished more than a huge chunk of shows do in their long 26 or more episode run. The ending was not straight up horrible. Even though the idea was rather dumb in my opinion, it was executed very well. I still HIGHLY reccomend this show to anybody and urge you all to watch it.

You know people tend to say that first impression is everything. One of the first things No Game No Life throws at you is a detailed panty shot of an eleven year old girl. Still I am a reasonable man. After all more than on one occasion a show made a bad impression but got a lot better afterwords...sadly No Game No Life does not.
The plot follows duo of brother and sister who are sucked into a world where everything is decided by games. Both wars and killing are banned. The only way to move up the social ledder and ETC is being good at

games.
I have a lot of problems with this anime. While the concept is pretty good the execution is downright horrible. First of all the show lets us know that both protagonists are virtually unbeatable at ANY GAME, succesfully killing any kind of tension for the said games which are basicly the main attarction of the show. Both protagonist are not just good at games, they are parcticly good at almost EVERYTHING. They read emotions, great at manipulating people through dialoge, smart and by that I mean not just game smart, but borderline ridicilously overpowered smart. Forgive me but I have a hard time that an 18 year old virgin who has not friends and plays only games and a girl who does not even leave home posses such skills.
But that is just the start of the problems. The second main character is Stephie Dola, a girl who's sole purpous is to be dumb and make main character look good. I am not kidding when I say she is dumb. She is like on a level of an average 14 year old girl in smarts departament. Now a point of such characters is often to pass the exposition to a viewer through said character. In this show the protagonists spend a LOT of time expalining most basic things to her which brings down the pacing a lot.
The pacing itself is utterly broken. At the start it is faster than a speeding bullet with characters not even reacting to getting inside a whole new world. There is niether negative nor positive reaction. Then when the actuall games start the pacing drops to really slow and let me explain why.
The shows main attraction as I said before is the games and "Smart" tactics used by the characters and ETC. The things is the tactics and twists they use in the show are so obvious that it gets extra boring when they are explaining and implementing the twists when I saw them coming 5 minutes before they were used.
Some may say that the pacing issues are coming from the show being given only 12 episodes. Well I say the pacing would be a lot better if they did not spent more time on fanservice than on the ACTUALL GAMES!
The whole show came off as expremely pretentious. It thinks that it is really smart and thinks outside the box, when in reality it is obvious and very rarely does something surprising. The whole show spents way too much time trying to convince you that the protaginsts are the greatest, smartest, most awesome creatures ever, while in reality they are just overpowered wishfullfilment badly written characters.
The comedy in the show is downright awful. I never once smiled. Though I have to give credit to voice actors who do their best to make the script sound funny.
I have a few positive things to say too overall. The visuals are good even if they filters they use get in the way a little. Still very nice to look at. The soundtrack is really really good and captures the video game feel very well.
Overall I could barely get through 5 episodes and it felt like an eternity of fanservice, wishfullfilment and bad writing. I know that a lot of people like this show but I was not one of them.
Also a bath scene with 11 year old girl...

I think it is safe to say that Kill La Kill is the most hyped up anime of 2014, but as the time showed us more than once, hyped up does not always mean good. I myself did not have the greatest experience with the hyped anime series of the past few years. I found Sword Art Online atrocious and Attack on Titan while not bad, still not even nearly as good as people made it out to be. When I started watching Kill La Kill I was a bit sceptical for two reasons: 1) Too much Hype and 2) I am against fanservise.

all that being said I am proud to say that Kill La Kill is one of the few shows in past years that actually deserve that level of hype. The writing, directing, pacing, soundtrack, characters and austesics are all on extremely high levels.
There were 2 great things that I immeadiatly noticed when I started watching Kill La Kill:
1) The first one was direction, animation and austetics. It was easy to understand that show was original and not and adaptation of any manga. You could see in the animation and the whole direction of the show that it was not just connecting key images with animation. It was using the freedome of animation and it's possibilities at their full capacity. The show's animation frequently jumps from maginificent and detalied to barely animated stills. It would be a huge problem if not for the fact that this show uses stills in a perfect fasion for comedy or for some memorable shots. Even when the animation is not that good throughout the episode, it still fits the show's mood very well.
With all that the show is full of visual puns, references and some shots so unbelivable you will have to straight up pause to absorb what the show just visualy threw at you. The great thing is that Kill La Kill does not hang up on it and acts like all of these ridicilous things are a norm which creates even a better impact for comedy.
The design and austetics in this show are majestic. The characters all look beautiful and distinct. The venues, locations, cities, buildings, weapons and everything else looks like quite nothing you have ever seen before.
2) The second thing I have noticed was almost pitch perfect pacing. This show has no fillers, no episodes that do not add up to the overall narrative and story. Every episode is usually packed with something great that will hold your attention and make you want to see what is next. Towards the end the pacing becomes faster and more energetic which is fine by me, but I have prefered the pacing of the first 15 episodes.
Now let's talk about the story:
Yes it is a tale of a girl getting revenge and finding out more about her father and family but rest assured that it is only a small fraction of what the story of this anime has to offer. While I will not be spoiling the story of the show too much though.
The show has many underlying themes. There are more apperent once like the commentary on nudity and shame and some that you have to look deeper into show's history to find. Still people have come up with many interesting iterations of this story which will make you view anime in the whole different light.
The great thing about the story of this anime....well and this anime overall is that if you are a viewer who just likes popcorn flicks or does not like to think too much about the shows they have watched, then this show will provide tons and tons of entertainment on the whole other level compared to the majority of other shows. If you on the other hand like to analize your shows, comic books, anime or whatever, you will find tons of things to analize and look into in this show. Appealing to two of such different demographics is an unbelievebly hard task which Kill La Kill does magnificently.
I will also say a few things about the characters:
The characters in this shows are mostly awesome. I loved Maco who is like your comedy reliefe and secondary character on crack. She will proved tons of awesome and fun moments.
The protagonist is good. The voice actor did a great job protraying her. She is not the most interesting character but I still really liked her.
Satsuki though might just be the most interesting and cool character in this whole show. Explaining her will require to spoil the show to death so I will not do it.
The strenght of the characters in this show is that even if they are not deep or intruiging, the show will give you bunch of reasons to love them.
Something had to be said about the soundtrack. Really this is easily among THE BEST anime soundtracks I have ever heard. The whole soundtrack is a thing of beauty. It does a great job enhancing the already great experience that is that show.
Also one of the last things I had to talk about is the infamous fanservice in this show. Well what can I say...there is a lot of it in this show. Still it plays a huge role in the narrative of this show and it's narratives. The proportions are not realistic. There are no nipples nor pubic hair. As a heterosexual male I can honestly tell you most of the time I have not even found the fanservice sexy and did not mind it too much. That comes from a guy who is usually stricktly against the fanservice.
So overall Kill La Kill is an exeptional show the likes of which come out very rare. It is beautifly directed, amazingly looking, smartly written and has magnificent soundtrack. Don't misunderstand me it has some flaws. For instance Nudist Beach was pretty useless overall and not fully realized. Some character faded into obscurity and I wanted to see more of them. The thing is that there are very few negatives but the positives...well they hit you hard and they hit you on every level that counts.

Mirai Nikki is a fine example on an anime starting great but then repeatedly trying as hard as it can to destroy everything that makes it good and bring on whole new levels of suckage.
The concept is solid. A battle royale of the owner of mysterious future diaries which give people different powers, for the right of being the new "God" of this world. During the first 3-4 episodes I was on the edge of my seat but the more episodes I watched the lower my opinion of this show got.
For starters we have our protagonist Yuki who is your cliche quite, pantsy type.
...
He gets pushed into this conflict between the diary owners but himself lacks the motivation and reason to try to win this competition. What follows is Yuno being a brutal yandere and killing everything on her way.
First of all let's talk about Yuno and Yuki's relationship. In the start of the series Yuki keeps Yuno with him for two reason: 1 - he needs her to survive and 2 - he actually falls for her a little and starts thinking that they can be togather even with her...unusual personality.
As I said in the beggining it is played out in a good manner. Later it gets messed up and pretty hard (as well as the whole anime). Yuki keeps returning to Yuno and gives her numerous chances even if everytime she continues doing some insane stuff. Once she drugged him, tied him to a chair and locked him in the basement and after that he still continues to be with her and falls in love with her. I do not believe that a single sane person would continue to be with a person who drugged you and threw you in the basement...at least there was not rape.
The relationships between this two character strat out good and even somewhat touching but later they become so unrealistic and so forced that towrads the end I could not even stand how idiotic was the protagonist to stay with her. And guess what it came back to bite him on his behind.
The farther the show gets the more idiotic the protagonist becomes and he was not likable to begin with. This degression sadly also effects almost every other character in the show
The rape, is a second issue I have with this series. There is more than 1 rape scene in the anime and numerous attempted rape scenes, as well as nudity scenes. Yes that's right. Not fanservice but straight up nudity which plays ABSOLUTELY no role most of the time. It's just there to have a naked chick in the show.
The rest of the cast in this anime ranges from really good to walking gimmicks and carbon cutouts. Sadly exept for Yuno and Minene most of the other characters are either not interesting or are killed off after one or two episodes.
Towards the final episodes the show becomes a horrible trainwreck with plotholes, characters acting stupid and out of nowhere time and dimension traveling.
There are many other bad things in this show but it requires for me to go more in depth to explore them properly.
There are good things about the show. The animation and overall austetics are good. The first opening is really nice but none of the other OST stands out. There are good things and moments but very few and far between. Overall the show kicked itself in the balls by trying out some very stupid things and concepts on top of the already poorly written characters.

Angel Beats! is held by many as one of the greats. I do agree with this statement. But what exactly makes it good? I will do my best to try to explain and maybe make you understand this anime and it's fans a bit more.
Angel Beats is about a group of teenagers who after their death found themselves trapped in an after-life school for reasons not truly known to them. What unites them is that they all died young and lived through much saddnes during their short lives. As soon as they come in terms with the saddness they lived through, they vanish from this

world.
Under a leadership of one girl they unite to fight the unfairness they lived through and find God or anyone who is responsible for this sitiuation.
This series to me is a symbol. A symbol of fighting unfairness. Staying strong no matter what happened toyou. With these characters you go through this school from which you can graduate only when you have faced your grief and decided to not get consumed by it. As you watch this show you see how the characers who may start bitter and angry on the things that happened to them, slowly accept them, grow up, mature and learn to stand up and be strong.
It is interesting that the school has been chosen as a setting. One might say thag it is cliche especially for anime, but here it serves as a symbol too. It is a school of life in which you learn to overcome things and can only graduate when you faced the fears and bitterness, and rose above them. This way the series teaches you not to hate life no matter what happens to you.
The characters on this show are likable and you genuenly care for them. Still the anime could benefit from more episodes, as quite a few of the characters have not been developes to their full extent. It does not worsen the experience of the show, but it is still notable. Still the characters that are developed to their full extebt are all likable and you get really attached to them, which makes it all harder to say goodbye.
The animation, design and overall austetics of the show are magnificent. It looks colorful, nice and never fails to set the right mood, wether fun or sad.
To top the good characters and nice austetics, the show has a killer of a soundtracks which includes both a beautiful instrumentals and magnificent original aongs with lyrics. You will return to this majestic soundtrack more than once belive me. I still find myself returning to it every now and then.
Now the show has a few flaws. For one there is a significant plot hole at the end. It ia explained in the manga and I already knew that explanation so it did not ruin my experience. Still the manga and said explanation came after the original show so a lot of people had to experience it without any explanation. As I said the show coukd definitly use at least a few more episode to really show off the interedting characters who sadly did not get their moment to shine.
Still overall this show is highly enjoyable, deep, funny, tragic and engaging. I have had a great time watching it. It really appealed to me on personal level but even beyond that I consider this a very strong show. I urge you to give it a chance.
