Saw Beni on your support list, wanted to say congrats on having her come home to your Chaldea :)

The bright side of having such variety is that there's a good chance that you'll like at least one of the Fate series, which could snowball into looking at other Fates depending on how much you like the series in general. I think it's good to still be aware of flaws or dislikes about a series and acknowledge them, kinda silly to just accept every adaptation and show in a series is great just because it belongs to that series. Extra's story was interesting at the start but yeah, its plot didn't keep me too interested as it went along so I get ya. The fact that it introduced Nero and Tama alone though is good enough of a reason for me to appreciate Extra.

Is that mobile game Magia Record by chance? Haven't played it myself but I heard the EN version was shutting down a while ago :/. Yeah, I find that as a group gets larger and larger, I get a lot quieter and quieter but I can do fairly okay with one-on-one convos. Thanks, I'll let you know if I change my mind :)

You say it pretty well, I agree. Each Fate entry does bring its own unique style and plot while still staying grounded to the Nasuverse. The plot of Apocrypha probably isn't on the level of the OG Fate but I did like the servants involved and the idea of putting 2 teams of servants against each other. I suppose it is hard to give focus to so many characters with a given budget and limited time but yeah, I wouldn't call Apocrypha bad. For the servants they did get to focus on for a while like Astolfo and Mordred, I pretty much liked a good amount.

I don't have Discord :p. I don't really know anyone that plays around me so I do feel like joining would be enjoyable for me but I'm pretty much a top-tier lurker when it comes to most social medias so I'm not usually used to group chats. I admire your desire to get out of the anti-social zone more often, I feel like I'm not as ready for that trip yet lol

Only halfway huh? That sounds great for the fans but I feel like that must take quite a lot of dedication and love to continue a series that long and keep the quality high. No idea how possibly longer it could get but people looking to get into One Piece probably would have to start now since the longer they wait, the longer the series would grow, the amount of chapters/episodes alone right now is intimidating.

I forgot which Berserker he was scrapped for but yeah, Spartacus and Fran move the plot forward in their own ways that Kintoki wouldn't have been able to. No way Kintoki can rampage across both teams like Spartacus and Fran seemed essential to the plot so pretty sure Kintoki couldn't take her spot either.

I've heard good things about HxH and BNHA, though I probably wouldn't dive into them unless I was really interested in it. I read One Piece back then and I do remember enjoying it but I stopped at some point and I now don't really remember too much. That'll probably be the one shounen I'd probably hop back onto if I do ever find the time and desire to. The fact that it's still praised after lasting this long throughout the years is something you don't usually hear with other shounens.

FGO sure surprised me with some characters. I always thought for the longest time that berserker Kintoki was a FGO original and then much later learned that he was scrapped from Apocrypha because his character wouldn't fit with the plot or something like that. Probably wouldn't have significantly boosted my liking for Apocrypha if he was in it but just fun trivia learned along the way.

I feel like shounens all sorta follow the same plot if you see too much of them, pretty much getting initially beat by the bad guy and then later beating them back with the power of friendship or hard training or etc. Gintama still has those from time to time but it handles that trope pretty well. Ah Food Wars, the first season really hooked me in. The cooking intensity and how the competitors would prepare their dishes is pretty entertaining, I should catch up on that at some point.

Yup, that one! Pretty much how you said it, Fox Tail is pretty much like an alternative route of CCC, which is an alternate route of Extra. I actually didn't know Suzuka came from there, I originally thought she was just a FGO only character at first so that was a nice surprise to find out.

Ah my bad, I was referring to White Album 2 for that second portion. Forgot to specify that, my bad. Gintama does have an official sub source, it deserves it for all the fun wacky things that happens in it.

That Extra gameplay is pretty much RNG, I feel like I'd get frustrated if I had to deal with that to move forward in an actual game I purchased. It seems these trailers and anime always seem to leave Tamamo out, Nero usually gets the attention though I suppose it fits her personality. Tama does get the main focus in a CCC manga though so there's that at least! I honestly wouldn't mind more seasons of the Emiya cooking show, it was pretty fun to watch with everyone being happy and seeing them cooking skills. Heard about it coming out as a game too but I don't have a Switch so dunno if I'll get the opportunity to try it out.

You won't regret picking Gintama as your re-entry into anime! The translations pretty much come at a snail's pace but as long as it comes out within my lifetime, that's all that matters. Plenty of other things, anime or not, to pass time in the meanwhile.

Another benefit of localizing CCC would be able to use other servants and see how they react to things as the game goes along. Though if I could only translate one servant's route for YT, Gilgamesh would probably be the prime candidate. Are you planning on getting that Extra remake when it comes out? I feel like despite watching walkthroughs of it to get the story, I'd feel more at peace with myself if I actually played it. It'd also be a nice excuse for me to get back into actual video games lol

Compared to before, I also haven't really been watching anime as much. A lot less free time and wanting to do other things besides anime makes juggling everything hard :(. As long as you're enjoying yourself though, it's definitely worth! Gintama is pretty long but it's pretty easy to like the series to the point where you'd gladly watch all the filler episodes in it without question. From what I heard, the manga pretty much ended and they're releasing a final movie next year so plenty of time to see it. I really like White Album 2 and there's even a VN (some parts are still being translated, oof) of it that expands into events after the anime. I originally picked it up thinking it was just about music. Got a lot more than that.

It'd be nice if an official translation for CCC came out but they are remaking Fate/Extra so there's still some hope! Just need to hope that it'll come out soon and not take over 10 years like with that Tsukihime remake. The amount of fanservice in the first parts of Prisma is a bit much at times for me but yeah, the later seasons do slowly move away from and more into what you'd expect from a Fate plotline, just with magical girls thrown into the mix.
lifebui Sep 2, 2020 11:27 PM
That must have been a pretty good coincidence that the ones you enjoyed had the same music composer, it was a sign
to dive into anime :). I heard both of those titles before but I haven't seen them. There was a friend back then who watched Madoka and wanted me to watch it as well but I think I was preoccupied with other animes so it slipped out of my mind. For me, there was an anime phase in highschool so I just hopped in. There was one guy who convinced me to watch Gintama during that time and I think that was the anime that made me realize I wouldn't mind watching more anime.

I guess the concept of a battle royale for a wish-granting device is popular enough for all these adaptations popping up throughout
the years. But yeah, the longer you stay in the Nasuverse, the easier it is to understand the shenanigans of Fate. Some of the spin offs are pretty good too in their own way. Had to resort to Youtube walkthroughs but Fate/Extra CCC is pretty interesting and Fate/Prisma's later half got me more interested as it got more serious.

HF has her as the music composer so that should be a nice plus for you when you see it. I think the way she does her music in general is just my type to begin with, especially when Kalafina was involved. Kalafina and Yuki Kaijura were such a nice combo.

Yup, started with the VN. When UBW came out, I was confused between whether to start with that or Zero and the internet opinion was the VN so I just went with that. It was my first time diving into the VN world but I really was curious as to why Artoria's face kept showing up in Fate titles, surely it must mean she's a great waifu. I feel like if you like the anime or even the beloved gacha game as a newcomer, you're going to end up gravitating to the VN at some point lol
lifebui Aug 31, 2020 10:49 PM
I know friends who like to talk during watching and it makes watching some shows more fun because who doesn't love group activities :). But yeah for KnK, I feel like watching it without paying too close attention just makes the movies more confusing than it has to be. Hope you enjoy it if you give it another shot.

Same here, that VN ate up a good chunk of time but I enjoyed the time spent. The animes and Heaven's Feel movies do a great job bringing it to life but I do miss the worldbuilding and amount of details the VN provided sometimes. It was probably that VN's fault that I started looking into other Fate titles after.

Ah yes Miyu, she's one of the 4-stars that'll dent my quartz as well. Castoria is also on my list since I'm a big fan of Arts. Also it's Artoria. Good thing there's plenty of time to save and hoard before then.

Aside from Shiki, Artoria was the other reason for me diving into this game. Kinda wish she got more story involvement but least she had her time to shine in the visual novel and animes. Type-Moon sure has a way of making interesting worlds and characters.
lifebui Aug 29, 2020 6:07 PM
I'm planning on dumping quartz for Kingprotea but Sitonai/clearly Illya and a decent chunk of 4-stars may possibly drain my quartz along the way, rip. The GAAAOOO~ lines got to me.

Hope the gacha blesses you with multiple Benis! How about you? Anyone after Beni?
