High school team sport mangas. Not only do the two main characters have a similar relationship, there are many similarities to be seen in side characters too (e.g. the split personality captain, kind giant, popular-with-the-ladies rival...). Apart from that they have the same atmosphere to them and recurring themes i.e. improving teamwork, meeting opponents that used to be teammates in middle school...

This is a very good soccer manga. However, instead of focusing on teamwork and having a "special partner," this manga focuses on the talents of the individual and how one can improve individual skills.

Both are shonen sports manga with pretty common "from zero to hero"main chara but more important are the similarities that you will see on every step. First of all characters. Keishin can be like Hiruma's little brother, whats more all rivals are equally fair players and extremely likable full dimensional people. You will see some storytelling common points too but I'm not gonna spoil you because finding them all give a lot of fun and satisfaction.

Both protagonists are a complete beginner in the sport. Sakuragi in Basketball and Hinata in Volleyball. They start out as a laughing stock and a complete failure. But they both possess a special talent that make them shine and leave the crowd in disbelief and total awe. High Kyuu has the traits necessary to become a masterpiece much like Slam Dunk. If you loved Slam Dunk, you'll surely enjoy High Kyuu!

-Really enthousiastic, fired up main characters. -The art has a lot of 'motion in it; You often need to zoom out to enjoy the match at the fullest. -Both have great art. -Both are about exciting matches. Diffrence; Haikyuu!'s about volleyball and Ballroom e Youkoso about dance.

both manga are similar to each other, volleyball sports, training hard after losing, developing a new skills, rivalry with other school, pushing the limits in the game, having 2 setter in team one have exp and the other is genius. both have an intense match where you will really feel their emotion. but Beniiro Hero is girls volleyball and have romance.. if you love one you will like the other one really..

Both mangas focus on a first year setter/spiker duo. The similarity also extends to protagonists' inability to get along with one another: Haikyuu's Hinata and Kageyama being kicked out before they've started, and Junjou's Akira and Katta stubbornly competing not cooperating. However, they then quickly become a completed pair as a great asset. It's hard to not to think about the other when reading the volleyball centred mangas. Even the common goal to redeem a team previously of great power is similar. Junjou compacts insane volleyball into powerful matches whilst Haikyuu pushes the team into practices and overwhelming the opposition.

Sports manga about volleyball/beach volleyball. Underdog stories where the main characters are really short but make up for it by having great jumping abilities.

The mc is very similar in both the mangas. From character design to height personality and traits. Even the weaknesses are also kind of same like lack of raw power, just average techniques, relying only on instincts etc. Both manga try to deal with realistic scenarios rather than giving the characters crazy superpowers. So haikyuu is the volley ball version of ao ashi there are some differences in aspects of storyline but the essence of the mangas are quite same.

Kurogane and Haikyuu!! are competitive series with a colorful cast of characters. The main male protagonist are involved in an activity/sport that tests the limits of their physical abilities. While they start out as underdogs, the series shows their hard work and determination as they begin to demonstrate superior skills. Both series focuses a lot of characterization and relationship dynamics as well. Kurogane is also noticeable for its supernatural element while Haikyuu!! retains a strong degree of its realism with its game mechanics.

Both stories are similar in a way that main characters create a team where they try to bring best out of each other and for the main characters it is their first time being on a real team where they are accepted. Also fun part is that in Haikyuu the relationship between main characters is kind of rival-ish: both know how to talk back to each other, while in Ookiku the relationship is more supportive, at least in the beginning. Also, did I mention that the main characters are visually similar? It's so fun to see visually similar characters act totally opposite in different manga.

Both are WSJ series with a lot of charm featuring shorter than average but still talented main characters in sports that typically have larger participants.

If I were to describe Haikyuu!! in a single sentence to a friend, I'd call it the One Piece of Sports anime. Everyone knows One Piece. One Piece is an action anime that revolves around a no-name pirate who dreams big, makes an impact will not falter in his goal, has friends/crewmates who argue and get into funny situations (and pull hilarious faces) and much more in a epic story with some rivals and villains that you can't help but love because each character is so unique. And that also describes Haikyuu!! pretty well, too. Just replace "action" with "volleyball", "no-name pirate" with "short guy  read more

Both about sports, passion, deep friendship, guts and drive to achieve anything.

Both protagonists lift the spirit of their teammates, short and not one to be looked down upon. The other characters are also likable. There is comedy and a road to becoming the best (kind of obvious).

Harigane Service and Haikyuu appeals to the sports audience. They both involve volleyball with a cast of characters that focuses on the sport. Throughout both series, there is competition among teams that brings out the best of each other. Both series are also known for their realistic portrayal and strategies when it comes to team play.

High Kyuu immediately reminded me of Air Gear. Hinata can be compared to Ikki in many ways. Both are sports manga, if you include ATs as a sports, that is. The main characters both start off as amateurs at the sport the love and are set to become the greatest at it. For Hinata, it's volleyball. Ikki, ATs.

- Both protagonists are obsessed with the sport they play - Both protagonists have a unique, raw talent but are held back due to their stature and physique - Both protagonists rely on their unique abilities but are weak in their other skills and experience compared to their teammates - Both stories are about team sports and focus on multiple characters - Both protagonists have a friendly rivalry with their teammates - Both protagonists start by relying on another teammate in order to succeed but soon develop on their own - Both do a good job of showing the personality and story of multiple members of the team, rather than just  read more

Sport manga where you can actually learn things, instead of just watching people duels and seeing the MC wins - zero to hero flow - contains some real knowledge

Both are sport mangas, but different sports, Haikyuu about voleyball and Beast Children about rugby, although both stories are little smilar and their main characters have that special sparrk in them.

Both would say are very emotional sports series about life. Great cast of characters, with amazing moments and entertaining sport hype

Both stories have a cast of characters with diverse personalities, their relationships builts as the chapters goes. In both mangas the cast are mostly men who have to learn to teamwork to success in their respective goals

Blue Period is a manga about art, but if you liked the struggle and personal conflicts in Haikyuu, you'd probably enjoy Blue Period. Blue Period's structure is similar in that: - MC is at a disadvantage compared to his peers in his favorite sport/hobby (Hinata is a short spiker and Yaguchi only started getting into art late into high school) - both wholeheartedly enjoy what they do despite the struggle - both constantly work to improve, other players/artists are often catalysts for their improvement - both aim for high goals I'd say Blue Period is slightly darker/gets into the mentality of its characters on a different level compared to Haikyuu  read more

Both focus on the struggles of a rather short, and at the beginning of the series; only one skill set to use. Gion and Hinata seem to be exactly the same, just in different sports. The series' also overlap in the themes of teamwork, friendship, overcoming disadvantages, etc. Both are really positive in their portrayals as well.

Both are manga that focus on volleyball. While haikyuu is quite lighthearted and calm, 2:43 Seiin boys focuses on darker themes and topics.
reportRecommended by thorfinnn
- they both had an aspiring competitor with a considerably more established competitor - just had a very similar vibe - the mc had similar aspirations (ish)

Sport manga with amazing characters and story. Even if you don't enjoy ice skating give it a try you won't regret it.
reportRecommended by Tsushiko
They both involve a protagonist who is short and improves in the sport they love. I recommend both of the manga, they both also have the same feel. Only difference is that High Kyuu is about volleyball and Dogashi kaden is about basketball.

First chapters of Bungo feel like a baseball version of Haikyuu. At least the beginnings are rather similar! *Inexperienced character who is very good at one thing meets someone who is experienced in the sport that looks down at them *They become rivals and want to beat each other *They end up in a same team Even though the beginning has similar structure Bungo seems very well written thus far. So if you liked Haikyuu and are looking for another sports manga to read, this might be it.
reportRecommended by Lylaaz
Both are light-hearted sport manga where main character is little too short and considered to be not a worthy opponent. Yet they have something that a lot of other players do not have. Both series have those ''wow'' effects where players do something cool and unexpected + teamplays and likeable characters :P Haikyuu is volleyball and Whistle is football themed.
reportRecommended by Lylaaz
Though the sports are different, one being basketball the other being volleyball both main characters meet their biggest rival in junior high on another team and end up in the same school and team in high school. The relationships are also quite similar though one is less friendly than the other... If you like one, you will probably like the other as they are both great manga.
reportRecommended by crimsonpheonix
Both of these shounen sports manga feature a main duo comprised of: A: an athlete who has honed a specialized skill through years of individual practice but has never been part of a team (Hinata and Uchigawa) and B: an athlete who possesses the "support" skillset necessary to utilize athlete A's unique skill (Kageyama and Ebina).

Volleyball themed manga where the main character is short. Chiisai Boku is fairly new and story-wise is more focused on the romance aspect. If you like volleyball manga then you can check them out.

Cross Ange and Haikyuu are both sports related series that emphasizes on hard work, teamwork, and the strive to succeed. Although they follow a different sport, there are similar set of principles relating to the working environment of both series. The main male protagonist becomes involved (with different roles) with both series' teams. Their passion for the sport evolves as their story progresses. And because both series adapts a competitive sports atmosphere, expect team rivalries and interpersonal connections built on and off the field.

If you like Haikyuu, you will also enjoy Acre of Diamond. The character relationships and love of the sport are very similar, and the intensity is no different between each series.
reportRecommended by RichieRoberts
This is not a sports manga, but it does follow the protagonist and her improvement of skills, similarly to that of Haikyuu!!. The protagonist looks toward acting as a coping mechanism to being abandoned with two very young siblings. The manga follows her journey through acting experiences. (If you are a Bungo Stray Dogs fan you will especially like the black box theater arc.) The art is amazing and the concept is very unique. They also go through explanations of theater and acting terms.
reportRecommended by Creana
While different in the main genres (fantasy/sport), both have similar character archetypes, especially the protagonist - hot-blooded, loud a bit dumb but good hearted, similar character interaction and mixing of serious action and slapstick comedy.
reportRecommended by abystoma2
Even though, sports and music seem completely different. The two require hard work and talent. I think that the two are similar in how both clubs are extremely dedicated to their craft. It is inspiring. Furthermore, the author makes you care about the other teams. At times, you just want more than one team to win. Haikyuu is funnier to me, but both have comedic moments. The characters in both stories are so lovable. I highly recommend both series.
