Both are shonen sports manga with pretty common "from zero to hero"main chara but more important are the similarities that you will see on every step. First of all characters. Keishin can be like Hiruma's little brother, whats more all rivals are equally fair players and extremely likable full dimensional people. You will see some storytelling common points too but I'm not gonna spoil you because finding them all give a lot of fun and satisfaction.
Sena (American Football) and Hinata (Volleyball) are a complete beginner in the sport. However, they each have a special trait that let them shine within the game and leave the crowd speechless. Sena's running speed allow him to pass through any opponent, while Hinata's jumping ability allows him to spike the ball through any blocker.
Both mangas contain very similar themes and styles. They both are a must read for any shounen lover. If you loved Eyeshield 21, you will surely enjoy High Kyuu!

Haikyuu and Eyeshield 21 have very similar setups and flows, both manga are about a diamond in the rough in their respective sports joining a pretty normal high school club and steadily growing to become one of the best players in their sports. Haikyuu is on the realistic side while Eyeshield 21 is totally out there.

If you're a fan of Haiykuu and or have watched the anime you will get the same excitement and more from reading Eyeshield 21. It honestly has a lot more to offer along with its great art by Murata Yusuke, artist behind One Punch Man, which also helps envelop the reading into each game. All the characters are great and are very likeable and each game ties in with the struggles of the game. Anyways this is a great read and you don't even need to know what American Football is to understand what is happening so don't worry, you definitely won't regret reading it.
