I was browsing through romance manga to read when I suddenly noticed Saotome Senshu, Hitakakusu. At first glance it looked like a hentai and I thought of skipping it, but then decided to take a look and binge read the whole thing one night. I was not disappointed.

Saotome is not your average romance heroine. She is tall for a school girl, athletic, shy and has a physique which even I don't have after hitting the gym for 4 years lol. She is also a boxer and a really good one at that too. Also, she's beautiful. Not the shojo romance kind, but beautiful yeah.

Saotome is a very interesting read that won't let you down with some buff girls, cute guys, and a pretty vanilla romance which is kind of rare in a sports manga centered around girls. If you want to have a feel-good-3-to-4-days-of-reading, you can read this pretty quick since most chapters aren't that long!

Pacing for the story was nice. Most characters had their time to shine and the story didn't seem to slow down too much, which I only felt did at times. Perhaps it was also a bit rushed at the end. 7/10

This is a manga that originally existed almost purely to appeal to people with a fetish for tomboys, rock hard abs, and tomboys with rock hard abs, but eventually became a pretty enjoyable romance. Besides girl abs being hot, this was a super wholesome experience, I loved every chapter of it. I loved every fight sequence, every romance bit, every comedy bit, everything. The artstyle is pretty cute and conveys a lot of emotion. My heart is completely melted like butter in a broiler and I wish there was more of this manga, I would read Saotome Senshu forever. 10/10 You would do yourself a favor reading this.

This manga made my week, and its one of my favourites now, I'm probably going to try and buy physical copies of every chapter of this one!!!

Huge note here, this manga has ZERO harem,ecchi, multiple big breated fems, etc...good clean read.
Ok now the story is pretty straightforward, promising and very strong female that loves a weak yet very determined classmate. Some good funny moments, good fight chapters, supporting characters each were unique and likeable. The art was different from what I've read so far but was nice, very short read not too long but character development was good so it touched up well. Great manga.
At first the couple seemed to have no chemistry at all, but little by little their relationship evolves to the point where you really like them together.
The cast of secondary characters are really fun too, in addition to being a boxing manga we still have some great rivals.

Art is okay most of the time, but when the manga focuses on boxing fights it is very good. The author is great at showing a scene of a sequence of strong or fast punches, the fights are really exciting.

An unusual premise for a romance story, with both the main characters being different from the normal romance tropes. I liked the setup with this premise, and I felt it was explored pretty well, with good amount of time devoted to Satoru and Yae's individual character growth and the growth of their relationship as well. I met saotome when I was scrolling the twitter timeline, and when I saw it was a boxing manga I thought it was going to be a normal sports manga, and when I started reading I thought it would be a normal romantic comedy, BUT the author told me surprised with the perfect combination between the romance and the fights, not only giving the necessary space for a good development of the two subjects, but also making one subject to support the other until the end of the story.

I'll be completely honest here: I wasn't expecting to like this manga. After reading a few shoujo sports romance manga, I was looking for some more and came across "Saotome Senshu, Hitakakusu" and almost dismissed it. I was so used to seeing female athlete characters being sexualized and fetishized in manga targeted at male readers and I didn't think this would be any different, but I was pleasantly surprised. "Saotome Senshu" is probably one of the best manga I've ever read, and I managed to binge it in two days.

One thing that I really liked about this manga was the characters and ... how their development (both personal and relationship-wise) stays true to their established character. The FL, Yae, has a serious and awkward personality, but she is very strong-willed and dedicated to boxing, and even after developing feelings for Satoru and starting her relationship with him, she doesn't lose any of those strong traits or her passion for boxing, which makes her much better than some FLs in other sports romance manga. Rather, being Satoru's girlfriend and training partner helps her grow stronger and helps her become a more well-rounded person. The ML, Satoru, is also very passionate about boxing and is a dedicated admirer of Yae despite his own weakness compared to her. His skillset is more theoretical and support-based than Yae's, which isn't very common in sports romance stories (usually it's the girl who's stuck on the sidelines, supporting her boyfriend) and was a welcome change. Over the course of the story, Satoru and Yae use their unique skillsets to complement and strengthen each other, making for an amazingly healthy and supportive relationship, and they help each other develop their skills, being equally supportive of each other. I thought it was very refreshing and sweet to see a ML who's so supportive of his girlfriend and who isn't ashamed to be in a support role when it comes to the FL's sport activities, as well as to see a FL who doesn't immediately rely on her boyfriend as a source of all motivation. Yae and Satoru's entire characterization and relationship dynamic was so refreshing and I hope other manga creators can take note. The side characters were also interesting and unique, and the little side story that kind of went on throughout the series about Yae's brother's "first love" was pretty cute, too.

The romance aspect of this manga was done pretty well, I'd say. I like that there wasn't much drama and that the main couple could have plenty of cute and sweet romantic moments without any love rivals or melodramatic angst, and the fact that both Yae and Satoru were completely lacking in experience with romance just made their love story so much cuter. Just because this manga is seinen and not shoujo doesn't mean it can't have its fair share of adorable, heart-fluttering, and blushy romantic scenes! Plus, as mentioned before, the whole relationship dynamic was healthy and enjoyable, making it even better. I thought it was neat that Satoru saw Yae as beautiful just the way she was and he didn't expect her to become "more feminine" or anything. He loved the tall and muscular girl that she was, and she loved the short and skinny boy that Satoru was, and no stereotypes or negative pressure were involved in their interactions. Boys, take note! Be the type of guy Satoru is!

The sports aspect was also surprisingly well-done, and balanced out the romance aspect very well. Yae is one of the most famous young boxers in her region, and she's aiming to compete at the Olympics, and Satoru's goal is to be by her side all the way there. The training and fights in the manga are drawn well and are pretty exciting, and it was cool to see the other strong female boxers that Yae's up against at the training camp she went to. All of her opponents were skilled and dangerous, and they all helped her (and Satoru) improve and grow stronger. There were plenty of matches and tournaments for the characters to participate in, and they all led up to the finale, which I won't spoil, but I will say that it was definitely satisfying and was a fitting conclusion for both the sports story and the love story. The fights were all drawn dynamically and the art quality added to their excitement.

The art of this manga was pretty good, and even though there were obviously moments where the creator obviously put in more effort than at other times, it was still pretty consistent and I really liked it. The creator definitely has their own unique art style and it's a really good-looking style in my opinion, and that made the manga even more fun to read. I especially enjoyed the colored extra drawings in the final volume.

Overall, "Saotome Senshu, Hitakakusu" is a better-than-average sports romance manga with great characters, a healthy and sweet love story, exciting boxing matches, good art, and a high enjoyment factor. It's definitely binge-worthy and I'm looking forward to re-reading it soon, and I definitely recommend it. If you're wondering whether or not you should read this manga, go for it! It'll be hard to find something to dislike about it, I promise.

What a great manga! I really enjoyed it!
The art is not bad, I kinda like it, very different from the standard for mangas. To me, the highlight of this manga was definitely the characters and the story.
I haven't watched much anime nor read manga with sports-themed, but every time I come across this type of material, the female characters are always pushed aside to be the cute supporting character who doesn't really add anything to the story itself. Saotome Senshu is not bad, but it kind of ends out of nowhere, so you're left feeling that you wanted more of this. I really wanted more, but it's a really good manga. You won't regret reading this one; it is funny and good. I honestly would recommend everyone read this one.

The art is very good. It starts off a bit disappointing, but gradually it begins to improve more and more, and it ends up being very good. Really good. To the point where the characters are well-drawn, you feel their embarrassment, and, in the end, it's quite fun.
