This book is a masterpiece.
Sui's philosophies are dripping throughout, with compelling and believable characters and intriguing narratives.
Ken is a protagonist who is easy to root for. He isn't perfect and doesn't fit into any of the too-common tropes in many mangas out there. This story is the journey of how he finds happiness in a cruel world.
I disagree with many people saying that the ending was too rushed. In fact, I am very glad that Sui didn't drag out the story with more subplots.
The idea that connection is what drives us, and choice is a gift, is beautiful.

Beginning :re felt like a great continuation of the original TG. The themes and immersive character writing felt reminiscent of the original series but the environment was refreshing, and the newer characters were great additions. But as it continued I felt my head swell as I was unable to keep up with so many new characters (not to mention characters rarely die so you've gotta remember them) and none of their personalities or experiences really added to the overall plot. And the amount of action increases to a degree that fighting seems to be more important than the actual story. In all of this mess, ... we lose sight of Kaneki, who's supposed to be the main character and his intentions which is legit the whole ass story.
I really enjoyed some moments but they weren't given the space to breathe and the weight of them was not nearly as much compared to in TG. I am still biased towards :re because I think its original ideas were still very interesting, but it's clear Ishida's publishers wanted a shorter story and none of it was edited down as it should have been for a more satisfying conclusion.

To start this off I would like to say that tokyo ghoul was a manga that took me through my freshman year of highschool, I went to the library and saw all 14 volumes, and proceeded to check out all of them at once and proceed to read and extend my library checkout throughout the year. It was a very good manga. However, the sequal, tokyo ghoul Re is a complete mockery of what made the original so good. one of the main gripes i have with the series is that there are so many plot lines/character arcs going on at the same time it ... becomes a headache to keep up. A second gripe is that the fight scenes are poorly choreographed, sometimes it feels like ishida just sribbled on the page and called it a day, that doesnt discount the talent he has, I do think he is a very great artist, however i felt it was lacking in the fight scenes here. To end this off, if you are massive fan of the tokyo ghoul series, and very much enjoyed the first title, by all means read this one to continue on.
