That shot with Rei standing in the moon light just right before the battle, absolutely great stuff. There seemed to be some foreshadowing in her conversation with Shinji as well.

I like Rei and her emotionless state :p . Seeing her smile was exhilarating. These first set of episodes are great already. I'd say Rei x Shinji but then I wouldn't cause I know better. *face palm*

Anyway, onto episode 7

The combat was one of the best parts of this episode, as it shows that NERV is having to steep up its game and use actual planning to defeat the Angels rather then Shinji just going berserk.

Old post, but episode 6 was honestly one of my favorite episodes. ;__; It was so touching because Rei and Shinji finally form a meaningful and heartwarming connection. Shinji and Rei are so emotionally damaged/lacking that their expressions of happiness, despite being simple, made me cry.

The end of this episode is unforgettable. Ahh, I can't ever get out of my mind Shinji and Rei's smiles. Shinji (almost) confronting sadness and feeling accomplished—Rei simply feeling. They lit up my heart so much and made me forget about the sadness/pain/emptiness from the past episodes.

Of course, this also made me lower my defenses and hope for more happy and tender moments, which came amidst lots and lots of trauma and 50x the pain. Ahhhh NGE...

Shinji is starting to man up. Good job. The first half of the episode was nothing much, but the second half made up for it.

For an all-or-nothing shot that can save or destroy humanity, that wasn't built up very much or felt all that important after it happened.

Hehe, and Shinji is such a sensitive 14-year-old boy. I wonder if we'll get to see him grow older and more mature. His sincerity is cute.

I never realized how hard it was to remember what episode I was on without MAL.

But as for the episode, I really liked the little bit at the end. Hopefully we eventually see some development between the two. :)

Wow, they used all of Japan's energy, that's insane. But the shot of the lights going out in Japan made me wonder what is happening in other countries. Are they getting attacked by angels as well or are they just ignoring that Japan is getting attacked by aliens ...

Great episode. Shinji finally got Rei to smile! Shinji seems like he's finally becoming the hero we all knew he would become. I don't understand why Rei loves Shinji's father though, that seems really weird considering the huuuuuge age difference.

Fantastic episode. Rei did a 180º and was 100% more tolerable and likable than in episode 05. Shinji was awesome as well, he managed to beat the angel without going insane like in the last couple times. Plus, the "Why don't you try smiling?" was nice. This was probably my favorite episode so far, nice action and tons of interesting dialogue.

Really a great episode. Shinji and Rei get to fight together and be a team for the first time which was nice to see. Shinji also seemed to be more in control of his emotions. Maybe he feels the need to protect Rei or to ensure that its not his fault if any harm were to come to her? I'm considering the hospital scene where Rei just told him to stay behind.

Hopefully, we can get a little more backstory now that we've fought 3 angels!

I love that they had to prepare a 9hr plan, it felt more realistic. And Nerv must be an authority equal to or higher than the government for them to have authorization to take all of Japan's power. Finally starting to like this show

oh and the drill scene reminded me of the Matrix lol I won't be surprised if the Matrix borrowed that piece from Eva, like how they were inspired to make the Matrix because of GITS

Rei was giving off some seriously creepy vibes in the hospital scene. But I think I'm liking her more after the last scene. I want to know more about her and her relationship with Shinji's dad.

I thought it was pretty great. The action was nice, with the diverting of Japan's power being pretty epic. But I felt the real heart of this was toward the end, when Shinji really starts to try to connect with Rei. His attempt shows that he really is progressing as a character, but Rei's smile also shows a bit more about her, humanizing her a little.

Rei Saga Pt. 2! Or Eva ep 6.

Pros:
Plot- Part 2 of Rei and Shinji and fighting against the Cosmic Cube of Headshots. The attack pulls in the Rest of Nerv and other places in order to combat this powerful foe and Misato shows her stuff.

Character: Rei continues to show herself and her connection to Nerv. Not a lot but it gives us enough to chew on about the shadowy group. She won a lot of points however for stopping Shinji from going to far into emo/PTSD mode and gets him back in the Eva. Shinji also shows some good points especially towards the end.

5/5. Loved the 2 parter and that smile at the end just made it all good.

Rei has nothing, but she is willing to fight for the sake of everyone. "Rei" is zero in Japanese, so Rei = Zero = Nothing. But yet, she stands for everything. She's also the first Eva pilot. Just an observation XD

Shinji once again felt reluctant but was compelled to carry out his duty in order to not place undue burden on someone else. His growing affection for Rei certainly aided in that regard I'm sure. I liked how he checked on Rei at the end of the episode in the same manner that his father did. His crying and display of care for her must have certainly reminded her of someone else who does (Gendo obvs) which doubly aided in her warming up to him.

I think Shinji is seeing a reflection of himself in Rei. Empty, alone, just existing, dark past, treated cruelly by life. Such a person probably feels quite relatable to him, and coupled with the fact that it's a girl he already feels attracted to, he may have finally found "the" reason to continue fighting on and it should definitely assist in recovering his mental state and giving him a much needed spark of determination. As for Rei, her willingness to smile at the end was an indication that she accepted him. Perhaps he in turn will also help her open up and deal with her issues.

That was crazy, it took all the power in Japan just to shoot one gun. Have to wonder whats its gonna take to bring the next angel down, it seems like they just keep getting stronger and stronger.

Also that was a really great ending scene, it was nice to see Rei finally warm up to Shinji and show some emotion.

So to get Rei to smile you just have to kill an Angel with a positron cannon powered by all the energy in Japan. I wonder what it takes to get a laugh out of her.
Wondering about this as well.

Nice character development for both Shinji and Rei this episode [s]though I thought Rei's smile seemed forced/kinda creepy tbch.
