Simple enough, who's your fav?

I've got a few, actually:

  • Masamune Shirow (best backgrounds evah, and some of the strongest and sexiest females to grace manga)
  • Hayao Miyazaki (sure he didn't do much, but Nausicaa was amazing)
  • Naoki Urasawa (I'm reading Monster now, and I can see that the hype was justly deserved; the man can write one hell of a story, even if his art isn't all too impressive)
  • Junji Ito (because his art is crazy creepy good)
  • Tsutomu Takahashi (young talent!)
  • Tsutomu Nihei (another extremely talented guy)
  • Hiromu Arakawa (because her fantastic stories stole my heart)
  • Hiroya Oku (his use of computer graphics in manga is impressive)

Though I haven't read nearly enough manga to consider myself an expert, I must say Hiroki Endo is one of the best, and my personal favorite. Also, many might disagree, but I also find Oogure Ito to be quite good.

My favorite mangaka is Yoko Kamio. Her art style is distinct and unique, her characters are very real, and every one of her series I've picked up, I have recognized immediately and loved. I don't know what it is about her work! I love Hana Yori Dango, Cat Street, and Matsuri Special, and I'm about to read the rest of her titles.

Nihei, Tsutomu. He made BLAME! and the artwork is some of the best I have ever seen.

Aida, Yu for Gunslinger Girl.

ABe, Yoshitoshi for the original ideas behind Haibane Renmei and the White Rain oneshot, and probably Lain when I get around to it. His art style is awesome too.

Urasawa, Naoki - for him being a genius when it comes to storytelling
Oda, Eiichiro - for One Piece, obviously
Kawashita, Mizuki - the best romantic Shounen are made by her
Arakawa, Hiromu - great art, stories and characters
Miyazaki, Hayao - though his anime are great as well, his masterpiece definitely is the manga 'Nausicaä'

I have a few...

CLAMP all of their series are absolutely gorgeous.

Yazawa Ai - Her characters are all so pretty and her attention to detail in costumes etc is amazing.

Hayao Miyazaki - Nausicaa was pure genius!

Kouyu shurei - While the story was a bit strange, the art in Alichino was stunning, it's such a shame it was dropped.

i would have to say one of my favs is Mitsuki, Miko im in love with her art and story lines.

but in essance i have alot of faveriots but i prefer really good art work i find myself pouring over the pictures and looking at the detail more so than reading some stories allthough a good story is great as well!! when i find both it becomes one of my favorite mangas to reread!!!

At the moment I'm particularly fond of Arina Tanemura. Her artwork is just beautiful, though she could tone down on the dialogue in her series. There's also Matsuri Hino. I just fell in love with Petshop of Horrors, the artwork is very unique. The other is Tite Kubo, for the simple fact that the story is genius. That guy can really weave a story.

Just a few favs...

Arakawa, Hiromu!! I am such a fangirl <3

Motomi, Kyousuke - His art style is choppy but his stories are great and they all have a really nice flow to them.

CLAMP - When you read enough of their stuff the stories and twists get repetitive but still really cute and their art work is the reason I love them! <3

Harold Sakuishi - Beck made me love this guy. I've only read one other work by him and can't find others, but he just has this way of making an entertaining story that makes me love the charaters. I hope he makes more.

Tetsuya Tsutsui - Reset got me to like him. His works are short, but they're really, really good.

Tsutomu Takahashi - Blue Heaven got me started on reading his stuff. His art adds an edge to his stories. Once I start any of his stuff, I usually read it the whole way through.

Geum Chel Ryu - Ares. I think that was the first manhwa I've ever read and enjoyed immensely. I like his art and just recently I started his other one, Nephilim John. Good stuff.

Hayao Miyazaki and Matsuri Hino.

MH: Her artwork is BEAUTIFUL! In every story that she does. The characters you can really understand and sympathize with, too.

HM: His stories are brilliant, the characters are lovable are they always make you cry and laugh. Absolutely brilliant!

CLAMP > beautiful art and amazing stories; besides they were precursors of stories shounen-like with girly environment (I don't know if you understand me). Lastly, Ohkawa writes about almost everything! and makes good characters development -at least, in their most mature stories-.
Arakawa Hiromu > FMA is one of the best stories of all times, cause it has it all: character development, action, adventure, comedy, hint of romance, ethics, life reflexions, etc...
Ohba Tsugumi / Obata Takeshi > you think of one without the other; Obata was good on his own but it wasn't til he met Ohba that his popularity rose to the sky. Death Note and Bakuman are simply awesome ^^
Takaya Natsuki > cause Furuba is one amazing shoujo! It breaks stereotypes and the story is very mature with sweetness and comedy.
Ikeda Riyoko > another precursor, this time of historical manga and gender bender.
Miyazaki Hayao > GENIOUS -yeah, with capitals!!-

Urasawa Naoki -, his stories are nothing less than masterpieces

Miyazaki Hayao - with Nausicaä he gave us a short and quite terrifying glimpse of a future our descendants might see

Komi Naoshi - a young but really promising artist whose stories are always original and really good to read (too bad Double Arts got axed before it could even start its main story)

Kawashita Mizuki - when it comes to shounen romance there aren't many that can compete with her and her characters usually aren't as stereotypical as they might seem at first view
