Kuragahime is now up for vote. Decide if it will manage to live a fun life in apartment Enlightenment or if it will be harassed by a pretty cross-dresser in the Relations.

RULES:
1. You can only vote for a title if you've finished watching/reading it. You must’ve read or watched at least 60% of the published content for unfinished titles. There might be exceptions for very long finished titles – they are decided on a case by case basis, but usually amount to more than half of the published content.

2. Write your vote at the very top of your comment.

3. Below your vote, give a substantial explanation to back it up. It doesn't have to be lengthy; it just needs to cover the points you want to make.

4. If you have only read/watched the adaption/source material of the respective nominee, please state so in your post.

5. It will take a minimum of 5 votes for either Enlightenment or Relations to make it into any of the lists as an anime (3 votes for manga). If it fails to reach that, it will be deemed Unremarkable.

6. The votes for Enlightenment will have to outnumber the votes for Unremarkable and Relations for it to be included in our list; the same goes for Relations. If it fails to reach that, it will be deemed Unremarkable.

7. Behave yourself. We accept discussions and debate, not flaming and incoherent fanboy/fangirl behavior.

8. The fate of the poll will lie in the hands of the officers if it turns out that there are more first time voters than regulars or the series cannot be gauged by both voting and discussions.

This polling process will last 7 days. BEGIN!!!!!!!!

Option 2

While it does have quite a bit to offer I don't think it is enlightenment worthy. All the side-characters are one-dimensional, the changes in tone are far too static and even exaggerated to the point where it can make the atmosphere somewhat jarring, and above all the ending was unsatisfying and didn't give enough closure. Maybe the manga should be put up for polling instead (Though I havn't read it yet) because as it stands I don't think the anime is cut out for it.

You know what this series is? Fun. And a lot of it. Not only is it fun, but it is an incredibly rare series that features unattractive women in a positive light. It also shows that no, otaku DOES NOT JUST MEAN ANIME FAN.

Will add more later.

Option 2

What do you get when you mix a lot of Genshiken (as it would look like if it were written by a woman), some style and fashion passion from Paradise Kiss, and just a little bit of Ouran Host Club? You get this anime right here.

Kuragehime is a lot of fun, as Amber said. It's funny and clever with flawed, yet charming characters who make up the "meat" of the anime. However, the anime is quite lacking when it comes to handling those characters' development. Tsukimi's development is pretty good and her interactions with Kuranosuke are genuinely great to watch, but the rest of the Amars remained one-dimensional, gimmicky characters until the end. It was funny at first, but after the novelty wore off, that became repetitive and, honestly, I wish the anime would've done something more with them. We don't see series like this come often. There was an opportunity for a honest, uncynical and funny portrayal of female otaku, but in the end, the show took the easy route and they remained stereotypes. For shame.

And yeah, there's also that - the ending. The ending is abrupt and only half-resolved, and thus it represents my biggest beef with Kuragehime which I absolutely cannot ignore. It'd be a different story if there were a second season. But there isn't and the threads left hanging will remain so forever (unless you read the manga, ofc, but even there not much progress has been made so far).

Overall, despite its somewhat shallow and unexplored side cast, repetitive humour and a problematic ending, Kuragehime still manages to be really adorable, heartwarming, fun little show that I would definitely recommend. However, I cannot sweep its problems under the rug and therefore I have to vote for option 2. Well, even if it weren't for the ending, I'd still vote option 2 since the anime kinda holds itself back, never coming even close to using its full potential and exploring tons of possible themes. Is it the fault of its short length? Is it the authors fault? Or is it my fault for having wrong expectations? I don't know, but whatever the reason is, the feeling it could've been much more remains.

Hmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Eeeeeaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggkkkkkkk!!!! Princess Jellyfish.

While Princess Jellyfish is a fun show to watch and provides many great qualities that I would love to see more of not just in anime but in films in general. I consider it hardly enlightenment worthy for many reasons.
Because it brings all these concepts to the table, I would've expected the show to utilize them to their utmost potential and that's where the show does so well and does so badly. It just ends. Whilst the ending did admittedly feel appropriate it felt kind of bland at the same time when taking every other story that was established throughout the course of the 11 episode series and it simply just drops them like they never existed. I would have loved to see more development between the brother and the seductive manager, I would have liked to see more development from the side characters in the unit building, hell I was under the impression that this show was a romance at quite a few intervals and I was expecting something to develop between the two mains which their was admittedly but not exactly in the way that I was hoping.
So simply it just doesn't develop things well enough and that is what is keeping this show from becoming a lot better.

Other than that, it certainly ain't a bad show, and is well worth watching for any person who wishes to find a nice Josei series to sit down with.

EDIT: YEAH.

Option 1.

I'm kinda conflicted on choosing between 1 and 2 with the lack of continuity/closure of the show, but I'll shoot for 1.

The series is extremely fresh, fun and strangely exciting in a different way. It shows lots of unique insights for the character's tropes and types, but what I like most is the contrast between the sisterhood and the outsiders and how both of them stand out a lot than the other. The sisterhood has a very interesting cast, unfortunately not developed well, but I felt most of them were doing well for their supporting roles, and they weren't supposed to go further; after all, it felt like a slice of life in a freshly taken setting and having the jobs of politics involved slightly with the building. If anything, there was romance and relationship bubbles between the characters, who none were unlikable. The otaku and hipster insight were very interesting too, with fun gimmicks going from the side characters (though they do get a little repetitive later on).

And then there's the two main characters, Tsukimi and Kuranosuke, who I thought were both had lively and lovely chemistry around each other. Again, the contrast appears especially here: Tsukimi the obsessed jellyfish otaku with Kuranosuke the male cross-dresser forever are almost two opposite sides of a coin; completely different in state, yet strangely the same in different areas by destiny. I think the portrayal of their interactions are very cute in the joyful, strangely fluffy show which made all the fun to watch.

Ultimately though, there's not much contained in it, and the ending is hardly of a completion at all. And: Brain-base + Sequels = 0.0000000001% of it happening, which sucks because I'd love to see more. Not too much development goes on, and it's nothing so striking, but I opted for option 1 since it's a lovely breathe of fresh air and a easy watch for a great comedy which has extremely interesting insights on things you don't usually see nowadays.

That's right Kuragehime series is really good and fun I agree in most aspects with Amber. However it is also true it lacks character development in most characters because it is just 11 episodes long.

Also the story doesn't make much sense as it is just the introduction. but hey it is a comedy anime so it doesn't need to be really deep to be good.

The ending is strange and makes little sense. It is a anime original one. The real development and interesting part starts with the event that happens instead of the original ending so it would be a really open ending if they just adapted it.

The possibilitiy of getting a new season is somewhere near Zero, The sales were about 700 per volume so as a closed anime without possible continuation is good but not enough for option 1.

If the manga gets polled I would vote for option 1 for sure. The plot starts making sense, becomes really interesting, characters get development and become more realistic and the new characters are amazing. As someone who follows the manga by the latest scanlations I recommend it.

It is made of excellence and deserves to be on our Enlightenment list.

For quite a short anime with only 11 episodes, Kuragehime offers more things than one would expected. It's funny. It's heartwarming. It's entertaining. But most of all, it's unique. As Amber said, this anime shows unattractive women in positive light, and does it so well. The key sentence: "Every girls can become a beautiful princess" is highlighted throughout the story and depicted in an unconventional yet amusing way. Far from many stereotype series that tried to utilize the same theme, Kuragehime manage to stand out among the others by offering cast of well-fleshed characters, interesting interactions, and a fresh idea regarding the distinction between un/attractive women.

Another thing that come to my attention is the story's pacing. When the story shows the sisterhood's daily life, the pacing is in orderly fashion, it's quite slow and have this sense of peaceful. Then, the moment the Male lead come to their life, he sets the whole pace. It is much faster, more spontaneous, and a little bit wild. Now, what is interesting is how the sisterhood reacts upon this change of pace. The change that occur from initially feeling uncomfortable/ disturbed to slowly being absorbed and unconsciously following the male lead's pace is so natural. Kuragehime is not just another anime that shows another story.. it is a world that pull you to its pace and leave you in itself.

The flaw has been stated quite clearly by the previous posts, though imho the ending is pretty nice and clear. It's not really that unresolved or hanging, there is a sense of closure for that 11 episodes part of the story. I voted 1 because imo Kuragehime is an outstanding show with remarkable qualities that outweigh its flaws.

With 2 votes for Enlightenment and 4 votes for Unremarkable I draw this poll to a close. Thank you for voting.

Note: I couldn't count Amberleh's vote since she didn't come back to edit more.
