It was like they were trying to make the most detestable brat when they made Hatchin. I have to downgrade my rating of this anime to a 5/10 because she is so terribly unbearable, and that is just wrong since this is a quality anime...this episode was awful ahhhh
Elsewhere, a somewhat startled Warren Worthington III finds that he has accidentally wandered into an electrified east-side world of post-twist teens and watsui-ing teeny-boppers...

Both Michiko and Hatchin can be unbearable in their own way, although I tend to side with Hachin more often than not.

Well Michiko is at least just your typical big-titted, bold and brash heroine; Hatchin is always a brat or a pity case. I hate when a major storyline is 'little brat with no backbone learns to live happily and with a little more backbone!!' It is why I rated Eureka Seven a 3 or 4 and will be the reason that I rate this a 3 or 4 if it keeps going this direction :(

Hatchin has both a strong moral compass and a backbone, highly unusual for an anime character. As we're currently seeing, she can pretty much support herself. She's just not quite street-wise enough.

hmm this episode was ok, i was really hoping for the next bit of the plot though. i guess the whole point is for hatchin to be travelling away from michiko, and guess they wanted to make more of a story behind it so i don't blame them.

That is what MAKES her unbearable; why do you think she's any less than Hatchin?

I think one of the reasons viewers love Michiko is for her physical assets- she certainly doesn't show much character depth, but I hope I'll be proved wrong later in the series. Michiko's fun, and I do like her sometimes, but the creators need to dig deep.

love this episode we learn about the person in hatchin how she feels, and she made new friends like this anime so far.

I actually enjoyed this episode - I admit I was looking forward to a conclusion for Michiko's visit to Satoshi, but Hana's relationship with Rita was lovely.
Besides, the last few episodes had Michiko and Hana fighting 24/7. This is some fresh air - Michiko has to be worried about Hana, do you remember they she looked at the tram on episode 8?

Seems to be losing promise quite quickly, this. For some reason, even with the great art and music and potentially great character development opportunities, there seems to be no real direction, and even though the episodes are a little linked, it just seems disjointed. Perhaps it would be better if it were simply episodic.

It's 22 eps, how boring would it be if each episode would go hand-in-hand with the next/previous one? I like the way it's going, really enjoying it.

I second that.

Very weird episode. Each time I think the show gets on some kind of track, or some good momentum, they throw in these weird curveballs. I'm starting to thing that this show is more of a visual showpiece than it is actually plot driven.

This show has never been plot driven, it's character driven, and thus it makes this episode okay. Not great, but it wasn't that bad.

That's funny, she's basically the only reason I picked this anime back up after several years at all.

whist i enjoyed hachin being the main focus.... i felt this episode should have been later on... they should have concluded with the last one, now the momentum has just failed, and its like were at snail pace... the way the story is being told is confusing me, and tbh isn't logical yet i still enjoy it xD damn it... *loads episode 10*

Rope + Bare hands = all totally fine - yea that bothered me...

Now that Michiko ain't in it, it feels like the development and pace really dropped by a lot... I do hope we'll see something better than just side stories...

I love the episode even if that is a 'side story'. Hope for more circus episodes!
And more circus's anime!
The show of Rita and Gino was really really short though :/ too short, and quite dissapointing.

Kinda ironic how she introduces herself as Hana to forget about Michiko when she hated the name because it reminded her of her foster parents.

Quoting a 6-year old comment. I agree with you :p Kind of surprising she's turned out "well" considering how f*cked up her environment was growing up.

Not a very interesting episode. Didn't really like Rita. And for some reason I'm really disappointed that Davi was killed in the end.

Am i the only on who thought it was weird the girl got free meal after talking to some fat dude on a bar? Afterwards see even scratched her ass and was talking about tampons being irritating? Why does a 10 year old wear tampons even? Seriously wtf?

I kind of liked this little detour, though I imagine it must have been frustrating for those who were following this show weekly. The only thing I missed was more dialouge, although that would apply to all previous episodes too.

It was a cool little duality with Rita, how she didn't believe in the miracle statue but she was in love with this guy who's ten years older than her. I'm not sure how this relates to Michiko and Hatchin's relationship, though.

omg, I thought so too. But, would not it have been the same bar of the boy who was in love with Rita?
The question isn't "What anime do you like?" That is merely a list.
The question is "Why do you like it?" That tells a story. Your story.

I wonder what kind of coincidence will happen between Michiko & Hatchin when they meet each other again

Guys, you aren't going to get a narrative plot in this show, you just won't. Almost every episode forum is filled with "well I guess we won't know what happened with X character from last episode" or some variation of it.
There is a general goal to work towards, but this show shares much more in common with something like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Trigun than it does with a plot driven show. Enjoy it for what it is, a vibrant, expressive, visual experience with engaging characters, a hectic setting and god tier musical production from Watanabe.

I find it strange that no one mentioned that Rita probably "prostitutes" herself and that's why I mention the tampon. I think the guy at the bar groped her and that's why I pay them "kindly" for the food. It's just something I keep from the episode and wanted to share. On the other hand, I liked it, I think this time they want to show us a hatchin who tries to fend for herself and find her own way, after living a life locked in that desperate little world that was her "family"
Evidently the values of her and Michiko clash irremediably and that confuses her. Between seeing in Michiko a figure of affection and a "Lighthouse" to cling to, she also questions her values and that makes her back in their relationship.
